Absolutely fantastic stay.
Was looking for something a bit different so booked this & we loved it. So quirky, such a clever idea.

We arrived and checked in with "the captain", went to room (all 17 are named after different owners/scottish legends). Rooms are very comfy, great bed, lovely bathroom with heated floor and tea/coffee making along with safe in room.

Breakfast was included - you will need to book a brekkie sitting as the top deck eating area is beautiful - 180 degree glass offers great viewing (Edinburgh castle visible in distance) but only offers seating for approx 12, hence the need to pick a brekkie time. Continental brekkie included & staff at breakfast were great.

I went back for a pint later in a'noon and sat people watching feom top deck.

Approx 3 min walk to tram line and trams pass every 6-8 minutes, taking you straight to city centre (3 day passes avail inc return to airport - deffo recommend this method of travel).

If you want to take a walk from the hotel the area is very up and coming. . . Looks like it was a run down area maybe 5 years ago but now lots of trendy appartments, bars, cafes etc and a nice 12-15minute walk to the Royal Brittania yacht which is big visitor attraction.

Ocean Mist is a great idea, very well delivered with great staff, rooms and bar/brekkie area. If you dont want to eat in the hotel there are lots of local options within a 1-3 minute walk.

Highly recommend and will definitely be back:)

What a fantastic hotel, we arrived in Edinburgh early and they stored our bags for us so we could explore the city all day without having to drag our bags with us. Then from check in to when we left all the staff we encountered were friendly and approachable. The tram stops a 5 min walk from them which makes getting around Edinburgh a doddle. We stayed in one of the standard rooms which was beautifully decorated in keeping with the aesthetics of the rest of the boat. The bar and lounge were beautiful with fantastic views out of the bar, not to mention the fantastic cocktails and drinks on offer. The continental breakfast had some of the biggest croissants I’ve seen, and although there is no on board restaurant there are so many great places to eat within a few minutes walk ( some of them are even right opposite) The best part is also the value for money, it’s comparable in price to one of the city’s premier inns but with character and charm thrown in. Definitely worth booking over a generic corporate square building. Thank you for our stay.

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay on the OCEAN MIST in Leith. The attention detail given to the ships conversion is a testament to the owner, the rooms/cabins are superb with really comfortable beds and very well appointed.
The en-suite bathrooms are also well appointed and fitted to a very high standard.
A very nice complimentary continental breakfast is included in the room price and served in the well stocked and very comfortable bar.
The hotel is located in the heart of Leith and is with in walking distance of local attractions, HMY Brittania and the Leith Whisky Distilllery lots of local bars and restaurants. If you want to venture further public transport to Edinburgh is plentiful.
A great time was had by us and we we are looking forward to our next stay.

We had a fantastic one night stay at the Ocean Mist for my birthday. We have stayed in lots of places in Edinburgh and I have to say this is my favourite to date. I loved all the quirky wee touches like the Tunnocks teacakes at reception!
Room and bathroom were lovely. Nice Arran Aromatics toiletries in bathroom together with supersoft towels and bathrobes. No rubbish UHT milk - you can pick up little bottles of fresh milk from reception or they will bring it to you. There are coffee bags available in the room too - better than instant!
Staff from reception to bar to breakfast in the morning were uniformly lovely. The wee bar on board is really beautiful. We had a couple of cocktails in there on arrival. We sat inside as it was a wee bit chilly but there was an outside deck which would be great on a sunny day.
A continental breakfast is included in the room stay. This is served in the bar area and there is a wee adjacent sitting room too. There was a good selection of different breads, crumpets, croissants etc as well as yoghurt, fruit, juice, ham and cheese. The crew bring you tea or coffee.
If you are looking for somewhere a wee bit different I would definitely recommend staying here. We are already planning to go back!

Hi Gretel616, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a fantastic review! We are absolutely thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your birthday stay with us at Ocean Mist and that it's your favorite place you've stayed in Edinburgh so far! We put a lot of love into the quirky touches, and we're so glad you loved the Tunnocks teacakes at reception. We appreciate you mentioning the little details in the room - the Arran Aromatics toiletries, plush towels and bathrobes, and of course, the fresh milk and proper coffee! We strive to provide a comfortable and luxurious experience onboard, and it sounds like we succeeded. We're also delighted to hear that you enjoyed the bar and the friendly service from our entire crew. The wee bar really is a special place, especially on a sunny day when you can enjoy the outside deck. A continental breakfast with a good selection is exactly what we aim for, and we're happy you found it satisfying. We love that you're already planning your next stay with us - that truly makes our day! Welcome back anytime! Warmly, Matt, duty manager

I had heard about the Ocean Mist through a friend, her husband had taken part in the restoration leading up to 2019. When Covid started he had to leave as per the world shutdown.
I booked the Joseph Hobbs Suite, it was an Anniversary surprise for my partner, she had no idea where we were staying. On arrival Gordon was at reception, such a lovely welcome and giving us details about breakfast, bar upstairs and answered all our questions.

On entering our suite my partner was speechless, bunting with hearts were above the bed, lovely towels in the shape of small swans. Even a token for two drinks to be used at the bar. Everything was spotless, ample sockets, bottled water, top class toiletries, and the free standing copper bath was the show piece. The style was like 1920's, every bit of space has been utilised and the standards were top notch. There is an area glassed off where you can see some of the Engine components, plenty information on the boat of the boat is available too.

Breakfast was a continental style, but loads of choices and as much as you want, If the weather was hotter we would have sat outside but hopefully do that next time. Fresh Milk is at hand on request from reception for your bedroom tea/coffee facilities. There is no restaurant on board but you are minutes away from lots and plenty bars all within easy walking distance. A bus stop nearby gets you into the city (no16) or even a tram service is there too. We stayed three nights as I knew one wouldn't be enough, and I certainly made the right decision.

All the staff are very friendly, Gordon, Tony, Rachael, Bar Staff, and got chatting you a member of the Housekeeping Team, Fatima. If you are looking for something different, lots of class, and to either explore, chill, please give it a go. Coming back to our suite was superb after being out, there is great Wi-Fi, but no TV or Fridge. We took the laptop and a cool bag to get by, but it all depends on everyone’s needs and what you want.
Thanks to everyone at The Ocean Mist, and we will be back soon to have another fantastic stay.

My husband and I stayed here last night and cannot speak more highly of this hotel. Everything from the amazingly decorated room, to the huge fluffy towels and the bar that served the most amazing cocktails was 10/10. The staff are absolutely fantastic and cannot be more helpful and cheerful! The breakfast with homemade pastries was the cherry on top of the cake too.

We stayed one night with our two teenage girls so 2 rooms for the 4 of us. The Ocean Mist is just a few minutes walk from the tram stop.
The hotel/ boat is really clean and really beautiful and quirky. The bathrooms were spotless and had shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in each room along with 2 fluffy bathrobes. The rooms also had hairdryers, water and tea/ coffee facilities and reception would provide fresh milk rather than the usual UHT.
The bed and the pillows were very comfy and I would go as far as to say probably the comfiest bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. 10/10. We all said the beds and pillows were great.
Towels were good and for the first time ever, a proper bin in the bathroom instead of those wee round things that don’t open when you press the pedal. A small thing but that was pretty much like the entire stay - attention to detail.
The bar was top class with a lovely setting. We sat in the lounge area as we had under 18’s with us but the service was fantastic. Great music, lovely choice of wine, wee bar snacks and water provided.
The lounge had a cupboard of games which was a great addition.
I didn’t feel the boat move at all and it was quite blowy out. I did hear water lapping but no movement.
There are 2 sittings for breakfast which I liked and the choice was great. Juices, lovely tea and coffee along with fruit, cheese, pastries, bread, eggs, porridge and cereal so really something for everyone. It was a continental style brekkie but everything was very fresh and top quality.
All the staff were lovely, helpful and very cheery.
I have given top marks for this hotel as it was really clean, lovely and quirky, great staff and fantastic attention to detail. We all said it was an excellent stay and would definitely stay again.

Hi GGHoneypop, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a fantastic review of your stay on the Ocean Mist! We're thrilled to hear that you and your family, including the teenagers, had a brilliant time. It sounds like the location was perfect, just a short walk from the tram stop. We're also delighted you found the boatel itself clean, beautiful, and quirky – that's exactly the atmosphere we strive for! We appreciate you mentioning the little details, from the fluffy bathrobes to the proper bins in the bathrooms. It's these touches that make all the difference, and we're happy they didn't go unnoticed. We're especially pleased to hear you all rated the beds and pillows a 10/10 – that's some of the highest praise we can get! A comfortable night's sleep is essential, and we're glad we delivered. The bar sounds like it was a hit as well, with a great atmosphere, friendly service, and a nice selection of drinks and snacks. We're glad the game cupboard in the lounge came in handy too! And of course, breakfast is an important part of any stay. We're happy you enjoyed the fresh, high-quality continental breakfast spread and the option of two different sittings. Finally, your kind words about our staff truly mean a lot. We take pride in having a lovely, helpful, and cheery team, so it's wonderful to hear they made a positive impression. Thank you again for choosing the Ocean Mist and for recommending us to others. We would love to welcome you back aboard any time! Sincerely, Matt, duty manager.

We had a fantastic long weekend on the Ocean Mist in Leith. It is ideally placed for numerous excellent restaurants and the open top bus tour 'Royal' (blue) route stops on the adjacent bridge. We had a 48 hour bus ticket so used the open top bus to get to and from the centre (although it is also well served by the tram). We stayed in the Steering Flat - right in the bow of the boat - which was brilliant with plenty of room. Real milk can be collected from reception to make teas and coffees and the continental breakfast on the top deck was plentiful. As others have stated lots of attention to detail throughout and a warm welcome from staff awaited every time we returned - if you're looking for something a little bit different/special then the Ocean Mist won't disappoint.

The Concept; The Location; Accessibility; The Ambience, and the staff were all excellent. There was also a really good selection on offer for breakfast which was combined with excellent service.

There are numerous of high quality Eateries and bars on the adjacent Quayside, so there is really good buzz environment about the area in general.

Had it not been for our disappointment with the size of our room we would have rated this venue as 'very good'. And this is because I believe we were not afforded the appropriate information on room selection at the time of booking. Our 'galley like' room was pretty cramped to be frank, and had pretty poor ventilation. I think Booking.com are party responsible here because the picture they showed did not fully represent what we ended up with? The other rooms we saw were far more spacious, and more welcoming, and the extra cost was not that much more. The room we go was not for us, but it could of course be OK for others. In summary, for the cost we paid, we were expecting something better.

In addition our room did not get turned over after the first night, and we were left having to ask for fresh towels and loo paper, and make or own bed. We did get an apology for the oversight, but really!!! The later item was not a hardship, but we felt let down having paid quite a considerable amount for our two night stay.

Dear Gordoncs2022, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review and for staying onboard the Ocean Mist with us! We are happy to read that the concept, ambiance, location and staff were excellent during your stay and we really appreciate the feedback you provide as it is a great way for us to identify and suppress potential issues for future guests. We deeply apologize for having let you down during your stay and it is true that our 2 berth cabins have a "galey like" feel to them which also makes them the most authentic ship like feel as they are the most similar to being on the actual ship while it was in service. I will personally look into the pictures displayed on the website you mention though as there are two rooms classed as berths and they both share the ship's bow on the lower deck, I can only assume that the pictures that you did see were from the other berth cabin as the are shaped quite differently. We are also sorry that your room service had been missed for your second night as this is not a common thing. Thanks again for the review and the valuable feedback! We hope to welcome you aboard next time you visit Edinburgh so we can show you the improvements! Kind regards Daniel Duty Manager

Second part of husbands birthday treat. A stay on a historic 1919 boat with great history. It has been wonderfully renovated inside and docked in Leith. A 17 bedded boutique hotel with 4 parking places but restrictions are not in place at the weekends so we parked on the bridge. Our room was a cabin on the lower deck. Very 1920's style like a Agatha Christie film. Lovely walk in shower and very authentic. The shutters on the portholes close out the light. There is air conditioning, toiletries, kettle and coffee and tea etc , water. The bed was very comfortable. We had a wander to look at the engine and the outer decks. There is a lounge and a bar which did super cocktails. The staff were all lovely especially the barman who gave us a discount card for Moonwake brewery which we used. Breakfast was in 2 sittings in the bar. It was a lovely continental with cereal, fruit juice, coffee, pastries, bread, fruit, yoghurt, ham and cheese. A unique stay in a great location.

Hello, Where is the superior suit located on the ship? thank you
Answer from OMReception
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Hello Ge H, Our 2 superior suites are both on the top deck, one has views towards the castle and the west of the water of Leith and the other one towards north and the water of Leith. These are not to be mistaken with our Staterooms Kenelm Guinness (top deck), Joseph Hobbs (mid deck) and Steering Flat (lower deck). Kind regards
