Hotel was booked as part of a coach trip. Location not to bad, Princes St/Old town within walking distance. Stayed in room 331. Very dated & dirty, bathroom really old & not clean. No heated towel rail, Room very cold, 1 storage heater to heat room which only got luke warm, had to ask for extra blankets which took 3...

Stayed for two nights and this is one hotel I will never visit again. No one on our trip was happy. The breakfasts totally disorganised. The dining room tables not ready and not enough for the number of guests. Expensive bar prices. Bed was comfy, hard but comfy. The room was cold and could benefit from curtains as well as...

My wife and I spent a 4 day midweek break at this hotel from 21st - 25th November. When we arrived the weather was -3 degrees outside and the room wasn't much warmer. We were on the first floor in room 7 and you would have anticipated that the room would have been heated when they knew the room would...

My husband and I stayed here with a organised coach holiday. The rooms: marked, tired looking and poorly decorated. Our room was 309 and although it was spacious the only opening window was directly above the kitchens so we couldn't open it as the whole room smelt of food. Bed was comfy ......especially after a whisky or two. Food: Edible....just!...

I honestly don't know we're to start of with this. I generally speaking wouldn't be the type of person to go out of my way to force an opinion on to others but, this time I have too say my price. Me & my partner we're heading up to Edinburgh for the Christmas markets, we decided to book a room...

If you find a cheap room for a 1 night stay like us, it should be fine. Staff and service not very polite and the room was... ok. Except dirty windows and the dirty bathroom. If next time have a very cheap room, maybe i will go back.

Honestly, I'm not one to make negative reviews but because we stayed in a room of a similar price somewhere else then came here... it was a massive disappointment. It was bare - both corridors and rooms felt like you were in a prison block. The bathroom had make up covered hand prints on the doors and the shower was...

This is the worst hotel!! I have been too , the food layed out from 17.00 until 21.00 without being touched by the staff I was there for a week and all I had to eat was chips every meal including breakfast, you see I am vegan and even though vegan meals had been ordered the Manager said they could...

Location good 12 min walk to Princess Street. Car Parking. Hotel ok, do not pay over the odds though. Basic rooms but en-suite, clean, warm and good beds. Small public areas. reception, bar and restaurant all two small for size of hotel, some staff quite abrupt but not as far as being rude.

As above really. Older Chap with darkened glasses punched the wall and swore after we returned with the wrong key to our room . Room was basic , a little dusty on the edges. Heater inadequate for size of room

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
