We stayed at the Britannia Edinburgh Hotel in mid-June 2015. We booked knowing that it was the cheapest offered on booking.com, and fully expected the facilities to be average at best. We simply wanted a room to keep our luggage, shower, change and rest our heads; the remainder of our trip was to be dedicated to exploring the delights that...

It began in room #244 After 22hrs of travel we werected looking for rest and relaxation. We got to the roomost to observe the nightstand lights were missing bulbs. Took a shower ti find the water handle in tub was stuck water would not shut off. Also the shower curtain fell 3 times due to being bent. Since there are...

Website states there's luggage storage but the receptionist says there isn't. Booked 2 twin rooms and were given 1 double room. Double room was horrible as it is in the lower ground (undergound) which is so hot and stuffs with no windows! We requested for a change but there's no other room available.

We paid for an 'executive' room (£90, no breakfast) and it was EXTREMELY small. My husband and I had to take it in turns to move: one sat on the bed while the other edged around it to reach the other side of the room. There was a large coffee stain on the wall. A make up wipe was left...

Stayed on Saturday, booked it from memories from years past. We stayed in a new room on the Lower Ground floor - really a series of man made caves with no natural light, missing light bulbs and directly under the dining area so lots of early morning chair noises to wake us. The signage is poor, highlighted by handwritten floor...

I stayed here on a business trip and was impressed with the helpful and friendly staff, nice bar and pleasant food. Frankly they would have had a 4 rating if it was not for the room. It was clean, tidy and comfortable but had no window. Maybe because of this the sound from the adjoining rooms was possibly amplified and...

We arrived at 1.30 and found a parking space immediately very close to reception. After reading previous trip advisors, we were expecting parking to be a nightmare! The food was excellent, the staff couldn't have been any more helpful, in particular the Manager and the hotel was an ideal location for getting about the city.

Was our last night's stay in Edinburgh. Have an issue when we first arrived, and were about to leave to go to another hotel. Hotel Manager Alan and his staff including Rebekah, Sioban and Angela, were extremely helpful. Alan was able to partially sort out the problem within an hour, and completed the miracle shortly thereafter - staff were very...

I stayed here on the 15th to the 17th of June. The receptionist was extremely indifferent to my presence. When eventually she asked me for my details I was told I could not check in until 14.00.The time was 13.45. Most reception staff would say politely that the room was not quite ready and offer to show you where you...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
