We visited Edinburgh last year 2016 to attend the Tattoo and the Edinburgh festival. This hotel is actually a rather grand large terraced house in a quiet area and a short walking distance from Haymarket station. We were welcomed very warmly on our arrival and our room (three female friends sharing) was huge. One extremely large king size bed and...

Arrived at the hotel and greeted with a very friendly and warm welcome. The room was very nice and bed was extremely comfy. Only small niggle was the TV was rather small and considering it's a higher end hotel I would of expected something bigger but that's more so personal preference. The bathroom is very nice and clean however I'd...

What a delight to find this gem on our first trip to Edinburgh. Lukas the manager was there to greet us after arriving quite late after a long drive. He is the most helpful and informative chap, we found out everything we needed to know, from places to visit to the parking. To avoid the astronomical parking fees (£28 for...

We stayed at the 35B Chester Street apartment. Pros - This apartment is extremely comfortable, spacious, well designed and has everything you need! My mum is a smoker and she particularly liked the outside terrace. The bathroom was lovely and big. The shower was fantastic and sooooo powerful! There was also a separate bath which was convenient. The bedrooms had...

We travelled to Edinburgh in order to attend the Rugby at Murrayfield and booked the room to stay overnight. We were aware there was no breakfast facility and that some rooms were not en suite. We had an e mail in the days leading to our stay asking our likely arrival time, this was to be earlier than the 2pm...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
