Great location, Staff were very friendly, good breakfast (apart from food being cold, no beans and coffee cups to small). Room was far too hot and couldn't open the window due to being at street level,

This small hotel is situated centrally and is very convenient for Princes Street and George Street. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the rooms are clean and well presented. The one big drawback is there is no lift and if you are on the third floor and not terribly fit it is a struggle to go up and...

Stayed here with friends for an overnight. We stayed in room 1 and while it was street level we were not disturbed by any noise until maybe 7-8 am which by this time we were awake. Room was very clean and bathroom well appointed. Staff were lovely and friendly. Breakfast is a buffet style which is served between 7 -...

Stayed for one night . Hotel very central for Edinburgh. Room was nice clean and a big bed . A suggestion if you want to stay here avoid rooms on 1st floor they look out on a back street and was noisy with delivery to the near by restaurant from 6am onwards. And whilst not a major hotel fault the...

Group of us stayed here one Saturday night recently for a friends birthday celebration. The best thing about Ricks is the location. Perfectly situated in the middle of everything. It's a small boutique hotel, so none of the usual benefits of staying at a larger hotel in terms of amenities. But had good kerb appeal and I got a warm,...

Its not entirely clear its a hotel when you arrive outside, it looks like a pub/restaurant. Rooms are squirreled away at the back and up stairs. Large room/ bed (room 3) and quiet, though the windows are double and secondary glazed to keep out the assumed noise. The view is to the back alley. Breakfast is adequate. Hotel has a...

Great location-Close to everything.we were on deal for room and dinner so for Edinburgh prices ,quite good value.Food was very good and on the Thursday we visited, the restaurant/bar area was very busy but service was just about breaking point ! We asked for water and had to remind again .Wine was slightly overpriced at £23.50 for run of the mill...

First impression was good but a bit impractical. To get the boutique look everything was tidied away. The kettle etc was in a cupboard and we had to put the kettle on the floor to plug it in. Good hairdryer and GHDs but had to crawl on the floor to plug them in. Good food, friendly staff and a great...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
