Detailed Reviews
I travel to Edinburgh frequently for both business and leisure and was excited to discover a new offering—The Resident Hotel Edinburgh. I booked directly through their website and found I could save money, especially by signing up for their membership program.
The location is absolutely perfect—situated in a charming neighbourhood and just a short walk from the Castle and other key attractions. From the moment I stepped into the beautifully designed lobby, I was greeted with a warm welcome from the team, setting the tone for my stay. The décor and public spaces are stylish yet inviting, offering the perfect mix of comfort and sophistication.
One unique aspect of The Resident Edinburgh is that they don’t have a bar or restaurant, which I found to be a bonus. The rooms are thoughtfully designed with mini kitchens, allowing you the flexibility to prepare your own snacks or meals. For those who prefer not to, the friendly staff are on hand to serve a selection of quality wines, beers, or coffees in their elegant public areas. The library was my personal favourite spot to unwind with a drink and get some work done.
Another standout feature was their complimentary evening gathering, hosted daily from 5 to 6 PM. This reminded me of experiences I’ve only seen at resort hotels. Guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine while mingling with other travellers and the Resident Insiders, who are incredibly knowledgeable and happy to provide insider tips about the best places to eat, drink, and explore in Edinburgh.
Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family, I highly recommend The Resident Edinburgh. It offers a unique combination of thoughtful amenities, a welcoming atmosphere, and a prime location that makes it an excellent choice for anyone visiting this beautiful city.

Dear VIP-Beasley, Thank you for your kind words about our beautiful new hotel and team. It is lovely to hear you were left with the feeling of being home away from home as that is exactly what we want you to feel. The library is also a favourite spot of mine. I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to The Resident Edinburgh in the not so distant future. Kind Regards Steven Syme Front Of House Manager

We're Resident Hotel members, so are already converted to the brand but this was a first time stay in their new Edinburgh hotel, usually stopping in their London hotels and Covent Garden in particular.
As per the review title, it's the staff that made our visit a great one. Without exception they're friendly, professional and attentive, whether in reception, serving drinks or just passing you in a corridor. We enjoyed chatting with them and hearing their stories in the lead up to the opening.
From a location perspective it's about a 20 minute (1 mile walk) the railway station along Princes Street and you're conveniently located for all of the city centre areas.
In terms of the hotel, unlike the Covent Garden site there's a super comfy lounge area in the Edinburgh hotel where a selection of drinks are served even though there's no bar as such. The staff very willingly bring your drinks and it was only ÂŁ24 for a lovely bottle of white wine, discounted by 25% for members. A bargain, and so enjoyable that we retreated to the the lounge (complete with a great book section) on both nights of our stay before bed.
Given the recent opening, there were some snagging issues, but nothing to spoil the visit and all being dealt with. It happens with new buildings.
The room was immaculately clean and functional with rooftop views to the west although smaller than expected if I'm honest. It was actually smaller than the Covent Garden bedrooms and the only disappointing feature. In addition, the only toilet in the lounge area was an accessible unisex toilet which felt limited for a large area serving drinks. These didn't in any way detract from the stay though.
The free evening drinks between 5 & 6pm were a nice touch and seemed popular. Whilst no meals are served in the hotel, there are several options at all times of the time in close proximity. We ate breakfast both mornings in La Plaza Bistro, literally next door where the menu was extensive and the food good.
All told, we hugely enjoyed our stay at The Resident and it would be our go to hotel if we're back in Edinburgh.

This new hotel is perfect for a few days sightseeing. Very central location. Our room, whilst small, has been well designed including a small kitchenette with fridge, microwave and coffee machine. I loved the small dressing table/mirror, with good lighting. A complementary drink between 5pm and 6pm was a lovely surprise. The lounge area was comfortable and perfect for meeting up with family. We loved the quieter library area. All the staff were fantastic and so friendly. This has been one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in recently. Will definitely stay again.

I have never been made to feel so welcome at a hotel and I worked in the industry for 15 years. We walked in the door on a very cold afternoon and we were immediately offered coffee and a sit down in the beautiful lounge whilst our cases were whisked up to our rooms. The team told us about all the local attractions and how to get there. We had not appreciated that the hotel had only been open less than a week. Our room was beautiful with fantastic views and the beds were sooo comfortable! The evening drinks at 5pm were very friendly and relaxed. A fantastic front desk team. I am sure this hotel will be a great success. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I was gifted an overnight in the Resident Hotel Edinburgh for a special birthday. The first booking I made I had to cancel because of storm Darragh and the hotel staff were so helpful in rearranging my stay for a later date and then storm Eowyn hit us with a vengeance! Once again at really short notice the considerate and understanding staff rearranged my stay with no qualms. My husband and I eventually managed our overnight stay on Sunday 26th January and what a stay it was! Staff at reception were polite, welcoming and super efficient in checking us in. Hotel reception area was stunning and wow what a beautiful bedroom we stayed in. Staff had remembered it was a birthday gift and had decorated the room with balloons and birthday cards, also a very much appreciated bottle of bubbly on ice and chocolates for me. We were invited, along with all other guests, to a welcome drink between 5 and 6pm. Once again the friendly staff looked after us and ensured we had a drink ( white, red, rose or Prosecco or choice of two bottled beers as well as soft drinks) were offered. This was a lovely touch. The hotel is really central for all restaurants, bars and tourist attractions. It was super clean, bed was so comfortable and I can’t praise the staff and their service enough. We will be back and I really can’t rate this wonderful hotel highly enough!! We had a wonderful stay.

I would have to say i highly recommend staying at The Resident Hotel Edinburgh. From start to finish me and my boyfriend had an amazing experience. Firstly we arrived in off an early flight from Dublin and got to the hotel at 8am… bearing in mind check in does not open until 3pm, one of the very friendly and welcoming staff members working on reception Yasmin allowed us to check into our room early! This was so thoughtful as not many places were open so early and it was still very dark outside and quite cold. This hotel also offers complimentary drinks for an hour between 5pm and 6pm where you are offered a drink of your choice with unlimited re fills for the hour. Here we met another very welcoming staff member named Ed. Ed was very friendly and helpful towards me and my boyfriend. We had asked him where was nice to eat nearby and Ed went to the bother of printing us out menus along with offering to make a booking on our behalf. Of course it is not just the staff that made our experience so special but also how nice the hotel is itself! It is in the perfect location and is absolutely stunning! The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are very clean. Overall I would have to say this is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in!

We are so glad to know that Yasmin’s kindness in accommodating your early check-in made a difference, especially after your early flight. It sounds like Ed went above and beyond to make your stay even more enjoyable too. Your feedback truly means a lot to us all, Yasmin, Ed, and the rest of the team share their appreciation. We hope to welcome you back for another amazing stay! Kind regards, Sannicia Sammy Reception Manager

The excellent staff training is so obvious as all the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and professional. I must add that Adarsh was helpful even before we arrived as I had a call from him to check that everything was in order ready for our arrival as in our expected time of arrival at the hotel, how to find the hotel and was there anything else we required. Once at the hotel all reception staff were superb but again I would like the following to be noted for excellent customer service - Adarsh (yes again), Maungo and Aileen as they really made us feel at home and extremely welcome and are a credit to The Resident Hotel chain. I know that the hotel experienced delays in opening but to me this enabled extra time to be allowed for training and this is so evident.
The hotel location is perfect and the hotel itself is beautiful and stylish and our room was extremely comfortable and met all our needs.
We will definitely be coming back to Edinburgh and will definitely be booking with The Resident Hotel as I can't imagine any other hotel chain being able to match what we experience with our recent visit.

We stayed 4 nights this week and it couldn't have been better. First of all, thank you to the staff, they're all so friendly and welcoming, from arrival to leaving. Even the guy who popped up to help with the heating controls was friendly and professional.
They're all doing a fantastic job.
This new hotel in the West End didn't disappoint in any way, it has a lovely calm atmosphere from the minute you walk through the doors, the reception area is really comfortable and it is tempting to sit by the fire and enjoy a drink. The evening cocktail hour was unexpected and a lovely touch.
Our room was also very quiet, no road noise heard, a big plus for us. Very comfortable king size bed, nice pillows, an ensuite shower room with good water pressure.
The mini - kitchen, microwave, kettle, fridge, etc. was really useful for us on this visit, having a toaster would have been icing on the cake, but I can understand why there isn't one. Quality teas and coffee bags provided and a small coffee machine.
There's a safe in the room.
Loved the double aspect windows and the views are gorgeous.
It's not often I feel compelled to give a 10, but this hotel and staff deserve full marks. We can't wait to stop there again and I'd have no problem recommending it.

We received a warm and friendly welcome from the reception team who were more than happy to answer our questions about eating out in the local area. You're spoiled for choice with places to eat and drink in the West End, however you're also only a 5 minute walk from Princes Street. The decor is simple and elegant with a nod to Edinburgh and Scotland through it's tasteful decor and finishes - paintings, cushions, toiletries. The amenities in the room are fantastic - fridge, coffee machine, hair dryer, iron - we didn't have to ask reception for one thing. The bathroom was immaculate and had a powerful shower, and most importantly the bed was large, comfortable and had decent pillows! We loved our stay and will be back!

Our stay was exceptional. The hotel's location was perfect, serving as an ideal base for exploring Edinburgh. The staff were always friendly and helpful, greeting us warmly whenever we passed by. The hotel was spotless, including the rooms. Although our double room was a bit snug around the bed area, it was well-equipped with everything we needed, including a microwave, fridge, and coffee machine. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with our experience and have already recommended the hotel to our family.
