It was excellent. the chef had put time and thought into making the Afternoon Tea as delicious for me as for my non vegan companions. Well worth the visit and would definitely go back. Thank you so much.

We have just returned after a lovely weekend. We booked one night at the hotel. We were greeted by very nice friendly staff on reception. Our room was an executive king on the 4th floor with wonderful panoramic views over the city. The room was very nicely decorated. Lovely decor. Spotlessly clean. Clean crisp bedding. Bathroom was a good size...

Comfortable, accommodating, friendly, prime location, and great food. This hotel was amazing, I could write a massive long review about all the things we enjoyed about it but I think you have to go see for yourself. Thank you for a lovely stay, we'll definitely be back.

Just off the Royal mile the hotel Edinburgh is right outside the front door! The hotel staff are attentive and were keen to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Ate at the bar on the first night as we arrived quite late - great club sandwich. The room was comfortable.

We had a Groupon for an afternoon tea for two in the bar here. Firstly, we were "squeezed in" on a Sunday as Saturdays fully booked, but the place was empty. The waiter didn't explain any of the things on the tray of food he just set it down and left, you do not get to choose from a selection...

I spent a first night at the hotel early this year, and greatly enjoyed the experience. The staff were unfailingly helpful, with particular mention of Fraser who was on reception as I checked out. I observed that he was having to multi-task, and he was doing this well - making sure that guests were being looked after and courteously responding...

Visited for two nights on business. Arrived late but the welcome from the two guys on reception was very friendly and they were very helpful. King bed room was very clean, comfortable bed, good shower, very quiet but efficient aircon/heating and decent free wifi. Despite overlooking the station there was no noise from outside my room - I wasn't even...

I often stay at Hilton since I have a Hilton Honors card and use Hilton when I can. I just stayed in tje Carlton in Edinburgh for three nights and quite enjoyed my stay. The staff at check in were very friendly and my room rather large and quiet as I had requested. The downturn was that the windows cant...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
