I stayed there for two nights and from the minute, i walked in the door, to the minute i left, i felt like i was a problem for one member of staff in particular from Australia. Every time i asked her a question about anything, she was abrupt, bad mannered and obnoxious. She was obviously suffering from a hangover both days...

Hi thanks for your review. We are really pleased you enjoyed our level of cleanliness and location but we are so sorry one of our staff was not friendly and helpful. This is very unusual as our staff are employed and trained to be as friendly and helpful to all our guests. It is very important to us to receive...

I had been living there for two months and it was pretty good but not great. I liked that it was in the city centre and I could easily go to castle or clubs and cleanness of rooms was also wary high. The thing is that staff was not so good at their daily work. Sometimes I had to wait...

the hostel is quite near to castle and most of the attractions. i was given a room in another building where there were only rooms and washrooms, without kitchen or tv room. all these facilities were only available in the main building. although it is in a good location, on saturday night, the street was busy, everyone was partying. the...

This was one of the first hostels I ever stayed at, and it was a lovely experience! It's very easy to meet new people, as the atmosphere is very friendly. The rooms are really clean, the common area is cosy, and the small bar/ restaurant offers tasty food for a good price. The hostel also offers free walking tours -...

I didnt like this place. Im a solo traveller and found it quite frustrating actually. Its in a good location, however everything is expensive - towel hire, locks, laundry. It has no atmosphere and it smells like a hospital. Some of the staff are lovely but most of them are not. the pub crawl they do was crap, im sure...

In a great location, the breakfast was very nice and the beds were comfy. Only downside was the shower which was either red hot or ice cold! There were lockers available in both the rooms and down near reception.

Awesome atmosphere, its got a real sense of community and everyone tries to get everyone involved. Free city tour and free pub crawl so there is something to suit everyone. Loved the quiz night!! I can't recommend this hostel enough! If I had to criticize anything, the hand dryers were a bit poor, it was like someone was breathing on...

They rented out our room twice so we had to leave after the first night. We got told this after returning from going out... The staff were also very unfriendly from checking in over booking the extending night to checking out... terrible

Checked out of 4 bed dorm with 2 other people at 10:30. New trainers left under the bed and stolen. Realised immediately that I had left the trainers and told staff by ringing. Staff were extremely unhelpful and dismissive, didn't want to know. I had to call the hostel several times and have been left unsatisfied by their service.

My friend and I had a great time at this hostel. The rooms were really clean, the kitchen served great cheap food and it had a great atmosphere overall. The front desk was very helpful when I arrived at 7 a.m. and didn't have a room yet. The hostel is located ideally in the city centre, a close walk to...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
