We stayed in this property June 21st and 22nd. The hotel is modern, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good but my issue was security and the staff knowledge. Both extremely important. We were visiting home from USA and my mother stayed one night while we booked two night to sight see. They did not change names on the room as... More

The Novotel is a modern hotel with good facilities. It is less than a 30 minute walk from Waverley Rail Station. It is close to Grassmarket with many pubs and restaurants. The Novotel bar prices are a complete rip off. Wi-Fi is free but signal is very weak

Whilst we have used Novotel in the past the modern style is not usually our preferred choice. On this ocassion our criteria were that we wanted a hotel for just a 1 night stay in Edinburgh that was ideal as a base to walk from but that could offer parking. The Novotel looked to fit the bill and we were... More

Myself and my husband were in Edinburgh for three nights. From the moment we entered the hotel till we left , service was great. The staff are very welcoming and helped us to get around Edinburgh by ourselves. Food in the restaurant was great and room was clean.

We stayed here in mid June for vacation and to pick up a Trafalger tour. We stayed for 5 days. The location is a short walk from Grassmarket (5 min.) and about 15 min. walk to the Royal Mile. Room was clean and quiet. The wireless is poor but I was supposed to be on vacation! The thing that really... More

Lovely hotel located about a twenty minute walk from Princess Street or a short taxi ride at a cost of approx £6. Nice clean hotel and good sized bedrooms. Good choice at the breakfast buffet. Would revisit and recommend Only negative was there was no handbasin in the seperate toilet in the room.

I could not get into my usual favourite so I plumped for the Novotel and I enjoyed my stay. Lauriston Place is just behind the Grassmarket so is a little further away from the centre of the city but Edinburgh is such a wonderful city that it is good to stay at a different location and explore. If you are... More

Great hotel. Clean, tidy rooms with ultra comfy beds. Very little outside noise heard from room above road. Staff at check in and meals etc are incredibly friendly and helpful, providing an outstanding service. Pool and jacuzzi etc are great although changing rooms are very small and lack privacy. Location is great - only a short walk to the extremely... More

Modern business hotel conveniently located in the heart of the city and right behind Edinburgh castle. Not cheap / not expensive. Comfortable, well-designed bedrooms. Well above average breakfast served and with plenty of choice. One minor complaint: coffee sachets in bedroom could do with upgrading to better quality.

Friendly check in. Corporate rate of £71 so extremely good value for room and breakfast. Bed was firm but comfortable for my taste. Funky clean bathroom with ok toiletries. Very convenient location. Didn't have chance to try the leisure facilities. Buffet breakfast plentiful and tasty

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
