This hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Edinburgh, with all the main attractions within a 5-10 minute walk. Check-in was smooth with a very warm welcome. Despite arriving early the staff did everything they could to get us into our room earlier at 1.30pm. We had a one bed deluxe apartment overlooking the Royal Mile - wow! The room had air conditioning which was great as we stayed during a heatwave. However not all rooms have this as we travelled with family and they were in a different part of the building and had to rely on a fan. The apartment was great as we had a lounge/kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom plus a surprise of a washer/dryer to clean clothes (useful if on holiday for a longer time). All decorated well. Could not fault the apartment but would suggest a couple of very minor improvements. The apartment could benefit from some coat hooks, put a mirror in the bedroom (the only one is located inside the wardrobe on the wrong door) but these are very minor. Finally breakfast was included and this is served in the restaurant attached to the apartments and again could not fault the quality. Would recommend to anyone staying, as its amazing.

This is such a wonderful hotel. The rooms are very well appointed with a kitchen, washer and dryer, bathtub, towel rack, great selection of dishes and cutlery. The room had everything we needed for our 5 night stay, absolutely everything. Additionally, the location is absolutely wonderful. It is right in the middle of the city on High Street which is right on the Royal Mile. The nice thing is that it is about a 7-10 minute walk from the Edinburgh Castle. This is great because the castle is so close to the hotel, but it is also just far enough away that you don't have to deal with all the tourists that walking to the Edinburgh Castle. It really is in the perfect location.
The service was also exceptional. All the staff really anticipated our needs and made sure we were very well taken care of. I would especially like to say thank you to Nick and Daniel. They really helped out with checking us in, checking us out, making dinner reservations, giving us ideas of places to go, etc. Thanks guys!
This really is a great place to stay in Edinburgh. I cannot recommend it highly enough. We will definitely be staying here again when we return to Edinburgh.
Thank you to everyone.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
Just got back from a 3 night stay with my kids, and Cheval is an exceptional hotel. Location can't be beat if you value walking proximity to the Royal Mile and Old Town attractions and life (5 min from the Castle, Grassmarket, Waverly, etc). It's literally on the Royal Mile, located next to a "close" (alley) with stairs that take you straight down the hill towards Waverly and other restaurants and attractions, so it's incredibly central and convenient, with the tradeoff being it can be a bit noisy at times with foot traffic, tour groups, and so on going by. But well worth it in my opinion.
The room itself was perfect - we stayed in a one bedroom apartment with a small bed alcove, a separate living room and a small but full kitchen. Worked great for the 3 of us, felt like a cozy home vs the sterile room you'd find in some of the larger hotel chains. Fast wifi, which is always a win as well.
The hotel staff and service were excellent. Very kind, helpful, great with advice. The onsite restaurant is good as well - Luckenbooths. Only thing to keep in mind is if you buy the breakfast package with your room they offer a more limited menu selection than the regular breakfast menu. For picky eaters (i.e kids) you might prefer the full menu, but both were very good with healthy choices, and the staff were great about making it work regardless of which menu. All in all, we would definitely stay here again.

I booked Cheval Old Town Chambers as a 70th Birthday surprise for my husband. Having never visited Edinburgh before I did some research and found just what I was looking for. From the time of booking communication was great and any queries sorted quickly and efficiently. We booked a chauffeur to pick us up from the airport which was all sorted by Cheval Old Town Chambers staff. On arrival at the airport Paul, our chauffeur was there waiting for us, superb service. Again communication was first class. On arrival at The Old Town Chambers we were given a very warm and friendly greeting by the front of house staff. They were chatty, knowledgable and made us feel very welcome. The porter showed us to the Penthouse Apartment which was at the back in the older part building. On entering we were very pleasantly surprised, not only by the size of the apartment but by the quality of everything. The staff had left a note and a bottle of red wine to welcome us and wishing my husband the happiest of birthdays, a really lovely and thoughtful surprise The penthouse suite is fully equipped with a full kitchen which has dishwasher, microwave, oven, hob, Nespresso coffee machine, a full size fridge and lots of equipment should you want to cater for yourselves. Milk was supplied along with bottled water, a variety of tea bags, coffee, sugar and Nespresso pods. The dining area, lounge, bedroom and bathroom are all large with tasteful decor and everywhere is spotlessly clean. I had requested a walk in shower when booking and was pleasantly surprised to find a large walk in shower along with a full sized bath, superb. Lots of lovely toiletries are supplied, in large bottles which were topped up daily. There is even a small hidden area, in a cupboard, which houses a washing machine, ironing board and clothes airer, all like new. We felt a little more spoilt when we discovered bifold doors onto a large balcony with seating area with incredible views over New Town and Princes Street, just fabulous, day and night. Location is perfect, so central, right on the Royal Mile with majority of things within walking distance, this doesn’t however mean that it’s noisy. We found the Chambers to be very peaceful and rarely heard noise from outside or other guests. The use if an app was helpful throughout or stay with the ability to live chat staff, look up restaurants and get information about appliances etc All in all we had a wonderful stay, just too short. Highly recommend

We absolutely LOVED our stay at this property. We stayed as a family of four, for four nights, in a Luxury Two Bedroom Apartment. There are few apartment hotels that actually feel like they are a hotel..this property nails it. The apartment itself was beautifully decorated and spacious. It had a small kitchenette with all you need and a washer/dryer that was very welcome by week three of our four week trip. The beds were very comfortable and the amenenties luxurious. The bedrooms themselves are quite small, but the living space makes up for it. The only downside was the very complicated journey from reception to our room. It involved multiple lifts, stairs and an uncovered crossover outside between two buildings. However, do not let it put you off, as it is worth it for the beauty of the building and the PERFECT location. Let me reinterate that this is THE PERFECT location for a stay in Edinburgh. Walking distance to the best that Edinburgh has to offer. You will feel like you are living inside a fairy tale. The lobby bar at the hotel is small but welcoming. The male bartender (sorry, I can't recall his name) is so friendly and engaging, not to mention he made fantastic cocktails! We dined at the in-house restaurant and despite the many good reviews we found it underwelming. Overall we give this hotel a 9/10 and Edinburgh itself a 10/10. We will definitely be back!

Dear Familygotravel, Thank you for such a glowing review—we’re absolutely delighted that you loved your stay with us! It’s wonderful to hear that your Luxury Two Bedroom Apartment provided the perfect balance of comfort, style, and practicality for your family during your Edinburgh trip. We know how valuable those little extras like a well-equipped kitchen and a washer/dryer can be on an extended trip! We truly appreciate your kind words about our team, especially our bartender—I’ll be sure to pass along your special mention. It’s also fantastic to hear that our central location helped make your Edinburgh experience even more magical. We understand that navigating the layout of our historic building can be a little tricky, and we appreciate your patience. We’ll certainly take your feedback on board to see if we can enhance the guest journey with improved signage while preserving the unique charm of the property. The team and I can’t wait to welcome you back for another unforgettable stay in Edinburgh! Kind regards, Nic Sforza Front Office Manager

We came to Edinburgh after a West Highland Way hiking trip to enjoy the various festivals taking place in August. The hotel itself could not be in a better location, situated on The Royal Mile across from St. Giles and only a 5 minute walk from the castle. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment with a “bed alcove.” The apartment is very spacious with a great little kitchen, washer/dryer combo and very nice bathroom. Plenty of room to stretch out. Very modern. The bed alcove is a little awkward however, and is best suited for kids as opposed to an adult. It’s really just a closet with a bed in it with no space around it at all and no bedside table to even put a glass on. There is no door, just a curtain.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and couldn’t have been nicer.
We did have an issue with noise. Granted, this great location is in the middle of a very vibrant area with lots of bars and nightlife. However, our room was in the back building of the two buildings that comprise the hotel and overlooked a courtyard that was used as outdoor seating for a restaurant. Even with the windows shut, we could easily hear the conversations of the restaurant customers and anyone else who happened to be walking through the courtyard which was also access to the Royal Mile in the front. Even after the restaurant closed, there was noise of cleaning, trash removal and moving furniture around until late into the night. Also, we couldn’t ever open the drapes in the main bedroom as there were tables directly outside and we would be easily visible to most diners. This is a pretty major flaw, especially after paying close to $500 a night and makes me feel that these rooms should be priced less as our experience was diminished.
Also to be aware of is accessibility. If you are planning to walk to the hotel, as we did, from the train station, be advised that the path here includes lots of stairs. It seems silly to take a cab from a few hundred yards away, but unless you want to drag your luggage up a hundred or so stairs, a cab is the way to go.

Dear Bobindenver1, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly appreciate your detailed review and are delighted to read your comments on our location and amenities. It's wonderful to know that you enjoyed the spaciousness and modern amenities of your one-bedroom apartment, as well as the friendliness and helpfulness of our staff. We take great pride in providing comfortable and welcoming accommodations to our guests. We do, however, apologize for the inconvenience you experienced due to the noise issues during your stay. We understand that our prime location on The Royal Mile, while fantastic for exploring Edinburgh's vibrant atmosphere, can sometimes result in increased noise levels. We will certainly take your feedback into consideration and explore ways to mitigate such disturbances in the future. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Regarding the bed alcove, we appreciate your feedback and will evaluate the feasibility of making improvements to enhance the comfort of our adult guests in that area. Lastly, we understand that accessibility can be a concern for some guests, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the stairs leading to the hotel. We will work on improving signage and communication to assist guests in navigating this aspect more easily along with our porters to be present at all the time on our guests' arrival. We hope that you still had an enjoyable time exploring Edinburgh. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we strive to provide the best possible experience for our guests. Once again, thank you for choosing to stay with us, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future for an even more pleasant stay. Kind Regards, Nick Sforza Reception Supervisor

First, due to the nature of our travel arrangements, we arrived at Cheval Old Town Chambers at 7:00 am. The front desk got us easily checked in and offered to hold our luggage in a secure place until our rooms were ready.
Once our rooms were ready, they were very kind as to bring our luggage up to our rooms.
The rooms were incredibly spacious and had all of the amenities and more! Washer/dryer combo and detergent, coffee maker, dishwasher, stove, oven, glassware, cookware, plates, silverware. It was fantastic. The beds were comfortable and the in room thermostat was easy to use. The rooms were cleaned daily and the toiletries provided such as shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, lotion were given in large bottles and were high quality.
I cannot tell you how perfect the location of this hotel is. It's located on the Royal Mile and almost everything in Old Town and some of New Town is within walking distance. It has a great restaurant with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a bar. While the restaurant and hotel are separate, the restaurant staff went as far as to help get us reservations at another restaurant last minute that we thoroughly enjoyed.
I would highly recommend this hotel if you're traveling to Edinburgh, especially if you're staying 3 days or longer given the provided amenities.

We stayed for three nights. Arrived early but our room was ready - in fact we had been upgraded to an apartment with a separate bedroom - room 107. Apartment was clean, comfortable and well kitted-out if you wish to use the kitchen facilities. The bed was very comfortable but the bedroom was a bit tight on space. Bathroom was nice and clean with a shower over bath and a bidet WC. There was a complimentary bottle of wine (although I didn’t find it to be very nice), and milk and bottled water in the fridge . A handwritten welcome note as well. Great location opposite St.. Giles, could have been noisy from the street but the windows were well double glazed. Communal areas of the hotel were spotless and smelled fresh and clean.. Staff were all very polite. Expensive but decent value for money.

We (two adults, two children ages 6 and 9) had an excellent experience staying at Cheval Old Town Chambers. The apartment was beautiful and well set up. The beds were comfortable and all of the little comforts were there, like easy temperature adjustments, well equipped kitchen, and refreshing showers and bathtub with plenty of hot water and nice soaps and shampoo. We loved having a sitting room and spent a good amount of time lounging as a family, which we needed at this part of our trip! The reception staff were extremely helpful. We will definitely stay here again.

We visit Edinburgh on a regular basis and have stayed in many Edinburgh Hotels, including the other Cheval on St Andrew Square, However the Town Chambers will be my hotel of choice from now on.
I found a very reasonable deal (by Edinburgh standards) on a search engine the night before we arrived. I expected the room to be the least desirable in the Hotel due the the price we paid. Danny on Reception noticed I was disabled and walk with crutches and moved us (without me requesting) to a lovely room very close to the lift - with minimal amount of stairs to climb. Full marks Danny, this was unexpected and very much appreciated. Also Paul deserves a mention for informing me about a disabled parking area close the the hotel I never knew existed. Little things like this mean a great deal to me.
Our room was excellent, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was superb too. As Arnold Schwarzenegger likes to say - I will be back!

These are apartments, no pool. Or children's facilities. However, the apartments are beautiful and very well equipped. I would think that you and your family would love it there. We got a great deal on Secret escapes. Not sure if the offer is still on with them

I would email the hotel directly and ask.
Our 2 bed apartment did not have the option of having twin beds in either room. We had 2 doubles. I do not know the bedroom configuration in other rooms.
There are more places to choose from in the Edinburgh area.
