We visited Edinburgh by car and getting to the hotel was a nightmare by car. The car park is about a 10 min walk away, and getting luggage in and out of the hotel meant parking on a cobblestone side street uphill and bringing all the baggage across. The room itself wasn't too bad, the typical holiday inn express room...

Another great option by Holiday Inn Express. Excellent location, just one block from Royal Miles and Edinburgh's main attractions. Within the Old Town and a short walk to New Town and Waverly Train Station. I have a bad knee and had no problems walking around this area. The room, wasn't spacious but comfortable enough for 2 individuals, as is expected...

Stayed for two nights. Cosy rooms, bare but efficient service. Not so lavish spread at breakfast. Best point is the location of the Hotel. Very central n in close vicinity of bus and train terminals. Ideal traveler hotel

Location is great! Not far away from the main shopping area on Princes street. Great if you're going to the theater, also the omni centre across the road has so many options for places to eat. Room was very clean, comfortable and very nicely decorated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Ironing room on 4th floor instead of a separate...

Great location- new the railway station where you can also get a bus to the airport. TV wasnt working initially but then this was sorted out eventually. The service was generally pretty good. We left some items behind and after calling the hotel said they could not find them which seems pretty unfeasible. Breakfasts were good as well and facilities...

Stayed 4 days starting New Years Day on visit from Canada with my bro-in-law in a room with 2 twins. This could be a great experience for the travelling public with a few simple improvements. For starters there's really no excuse for the room key swipe cards to not work! We were in the furthest room possible from the front...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
