This has been my third stay at this hotel since 2018 and I can continue to highly recommend it. It is in a residential section, 1.5 miles from the center of the city, which is totally walkable. If you prefer the bus, there is a bus stop two minutes walk from the door of the hotel that will take you to the city in 15 minutes. Very accessible. When you arrive from the airport, you can either take a bus or a taxi. I have use the taxi service (just ask Kevin to arrange it ) on my return to the airport in the early morning hours and they have always been on time and reliable. Kevin and Susan are the most gracious hosts, along with the team at the hotel, and have continually exceeded my expectations. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the water pressure in the shower is outstanding and quickly heats, and the extra added touches of coffee and tea in your room, hairdryer, and exquisitely, smelling soap/lotion along with thick bath towels, are welcoming after a day in the city. I stayed on the top floor (3rd), which is walk up, but the view of Arthur’s Seat was amazing. Breakfasts are substantial and so deliciously well prepared. There is a wide array of choices to suit everyone , and the breakfast dining room is like eating in a garden with the windows and light pouring in. There is a small bar and a TV seating area when you come in. And there is a host always on site, which is comforting. I cannot say enough about this establishment. Thank you for another wonderful visit.

Kevin made us feel supremely welcome, incredibly helpful and entertaining. The beds were comfortable. The location was a 25 min walk to the Royal Mile the first day, and Kevin gave good directions about how to use the busses to get around on our second day. There is no elevator, but they offer to carry your luggage upstairs for you. The rooms and bathrooms were well appointed. After our subsequent stops on this trip I will say that this place had the best water pressure in the shower.

Picked this hotel because it was close to the royal commonwealth pool where I had tickets to see the national diving cup. Then hotel entrance is behind the main street but it is still within walking distance of the pool and located only metres from bus stops both into Edinburgh centre or out towards musselburgh/Leith. The hotel itself is very clean, very homely. The proprietors were very welcoming. My room was lovely, breakfast was gorgeous and as a solo female traveller I felt totally safe and very comfortable. Thank you for a lovely stay.

This little gem is absolutely going to be THE place to stay for us every time we're visiting Edinburgh. So, so friendly and welcoming atmosphere it's like coming home!
Location is really convenient as bus stops are literally around the corner, exellent connections towards town centre and Leith. Restaurants and shops within walking distance too so it's easy to dine and have a pint in a bit quieter surroundings.
Our room was in the top floor with amazing view to Arthur's Seat. The room itself was huge! I fell in love with the hotel as it's in a very old building and has all charming characteristics like an odd squeaky floorboard, slightly crooked staircase and rustic decĂłr.
Their breakfast is delicious! They have a menu for you to choose a freshly cooked hot breakfast to enjoy with a continental breakfast. I have to confess I had the salmon muffin every morning as it was SO delicious I didn't want to try anything else. My husband had Scottish breakfast and it was also very tasty.
All in all, if you like to sleep well in very comfortable beds in a quiet residentieal area, this is the place to go.

We stayed for a week using this hotel as our launching point to visit a number of different parts of Scotland. The hosts (Kevin & Susan) are truly wonderful people and a pleasure to chat with. The room was clean and well prepared and the breakfast each morning was very good. We are very pleased with our choice to stay here and would happily visit them again. Also, be aware that the stairs can be challenging for some, particularly if you get a top level room as we did - 44 stairs each way to get to/from the room.
The one caution I will offer is the description regarding 'free parking.' That's not entirely true. While the location is outside the most restrictive part of the Edinburgh parking domain, it is NOT free parking immediately outside the hotel. This was not made clear to us upon arrival and we got a parking ticket because the parking is free without permit for 22.5 out of 24 hours each day. From 0930-1100, there is no parking without a permit. Yes, one can work around this, but be aware so you don't get burned as we did. A single ticket was 60 GBP (reduced to 30 GBP with prompt payment).

Thank you for your review and of course we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. There is in fact limited parking belonging to the hotel, however there is free parking at the top and bottom of our road, we ask all our guests to check with us before parking or if they are unsure we will direct you to a free parking space. We also have a policy of paying for our guests parking tickets if you get one, therefore the onus is very much on ourselves to ensure we find adequate parking. Never easy however when your hotel is based in a residential area. Next time you are in Edinburgh we would gladly welcome you back. Best wishes Kevin, Susan and all the team.

I was given this stay as a gift for my birthday, and I must say that I was really happy with it! the hotel is in a very quiet area and the beds were very comfortable, I haven't slept so well on holiday in a long time! the center is easily reachable both by bus (there is a stop a few meters from the hotel) and on foot (after 14 minutes in a residential area you reach a street where there are already many cafes/restaurants and in 35/40 minutes in total you arrive at princes street. The structure is very characteristic, it is not a modern hotel but it gives you the feeling of living in Edinburgh because it blends in with the houses around there a broken spotlight, it didn't cause us any problems, I'm only saying this for an aesthetic reason) but for the rest we had many comforts that are not found in all hotels (hand cream, make-up remover pads), and obviously, a kettle with coffee , tea, biscuits and also two bottles of water upon our arrival another thing that we really liked was the breakfast (I don't have any other photos) there was tea, milk, coffee, then closed cereals in single portions and loose cereals. )fruit, yoghurt, chocolate spread, maple syrup and many things, then the staff prepares you toast with a choice of eggs or porridge, or English breakfast. Fabulous Eggs Benedict! The first morning we skipped breakfast because we left too early, but they let us find a bag outside the door the previous evening with two brioche croissants, jam, two bananas, two bars and two orange juice, it was really nice like what! the staff were really kind!

Just got back from a most wonderful stay at Hotel Ceilidh-Donia in Edinburgh. The staff is incredible from the desk, cleaning, and breakfast service. Everyone was so warm, welcoming, and friendly, and went out of their way to ensure that we were well taken care of. The room was sunny, clean, and comfortable. The location was quite convenient--a short walk to the center of town with ample public transportation. We also had convenient access to Arthur's Seat where we enjoyed a lovely hike. And the breakfast was delicious with several selections (we all LOVED the Scottish breakfast) and something we looked forward to every day. They even packed takeaway breakfast for mornings when we left early for tours and such. We would definitely stay here again, and cannot say enough about the terrific staff that truly made us feel at home.

This was our fourth stay postponed from 2020 due to you know what. It had been four years since we last saw Susan and Kevin, the owners of this wonderful gem of a hotel. It is located off the main road in a residential neighbourhood. We were greeted with a smile from Susan when she saw us. She knew my spouse had knee issues and offered us a choice of either a ground or first floor room. Our room was very clean and a good size. Breakfast was great as we remembered. There is a small bar area at the reception area. This hotel is more like a larger bed and breakfast than a hotel with its personal touches from the owners. Don't be put off by the hotel not being in the city centre. It is only a 1+ mile walk to North Bridge, and there are busses about a block away that will take you to the city centre. There are plenty of restaurants near the hotel if you wish to eat close by. Kevin and Susan will gladly provide advice as to where to eat and attractions. We are looking forward to our next stay.

I had messaged ahead of our stay to say it was my friends birthday and asked if they could put some banners and balloons in the room, which Id be happy to pay for. They replied to say this would be ok, but sadly didn't do anything to acknowledge her birthday.
We were in room 18, which was right next to the front door, so we were woken up several times during the night with the noise of the door closing.
Breakfast was delicious but they did give my friend a different type of egg to what she ordered, she didn't make a fuss and just ate what she was given.
The bed was comfortable and the room was nice enough. It's in a great location with easy access to the centre by bus.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful stay in Edinburgh at the Hotel Ceilidh-Donia. The hotel is conveniently located about one mile from the Royal Mile and a short walk to many bus lines. You’d be hard pressed to find a hotel in Edinburgh with friendlier service or a better breakfast. Kudos to Kevin and Susan for being exemplary hosts. The hotel has tons of character. Our only quibble was that the room felt a little tired. However; we felt that the rooms are priced very well relative to other options in Edinburgh. Great stay and great value! I highly recommend a stay here.

The hotel is not handy for the airport. However, a taxi from the hotel could take you to a tram stop for the airport, or to the airport bus departure point, and would cost approximately ÂŁ8-ÂŁ10. Alternatively, catch a bus from Minto Street (very close to the hotel) to Princes Street to link with the airport bus..
If you have luggage I would recommend a taxi, it will cost around ÂŁ20 to ÂŁ25, you can also get the tram or bus from the airport ÂŁ4.50 per person to Princess Street and then a number 30 or 33 to Marchhall Place ÂŁ1.70 per person. We are about 20 to 25 minutes walk from the city centre, where you have the Royal Mile, the Castle, Museums and historical buildings.
There are more places to choose from in the Edinburgh area.
