When we arrived we were given a room with twin beds when guaranteed a double room, this was rectified by them pushing the beds together and replacing the mattresses with a double which was fine except the other mattresses were left in the corridor outside our room for the whole stay. Part of the room was in a traditional style... More

Received the best of welcomes during our UK visit, David was a wealth of information upon our arrival. Sort of a B&B, featured many amenities like electric chargers, wine glasses, heating rack, modern showers......Rick's right next door served up great breakfast buffet in the morning, and open late for a nightcap. Situated near many restaurants and pubs.

We only stayed one evening however David was a great help with suggestions for dinner nearby, helping us arrange accommodations for the following weekend (they were full), and even printing our boarding passes for us that following weekend!

When reading other recent reviews, I wonder if we were at the same place! Fantastic location, nice size room with large window and high ceiling gave an airy feel and merited the three stars. We debated about giving it 2. Room and bathroom were clean enough but carpet was filthy - that really bothered me as I like to do... More

This B and B has lovely, helpful hosts. The rooms are stylish, roomy and clean. The location really lends itself to getting out and walking the streets of Edinburgh. They are up front about the stairs (and no elevators) -there are ALOT of them, so take care for the elderly or infirm. Highly recommend!

As you walk through a door up 3 flights of stairs past the door to the hairdressers and up more stairs to the hotel, you will recieve a very warm welcome where you are personally shown your room. They have a notice on the Wall of all the activities you can do in Edinburgh including a list of restaurants and... More

We just spent three night at this wonderful B&B. Our host, David was very helpful. Nothing was any trouble. He knows his city and gave us very useful information. We had a room which was on the fourth floor. No lifts but that was good. We had to work off breakfast somehow. Breakfast was at Ricks - next door. The... More

Stayed for one night. Very friendly and helpful owner. Room was spacious and very comfortable. The bed was huge, linen really soft. Shower room again really comfortable, clean and I loved the Lino. No view to speak of from my room. Had to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to the room but help was on hand to take... More

Had a great experience talking to Dave and Katy on several occasions. Stayed 3 nights in rm. 11, 69 steps upstairs. I'm 65, with sever ostioarthritis in my knees, and clamoured up these stairs 3 times a day , for various reasons. No problem. Back to Dave though. What really left a lasting impression on me, was the UK electrical... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
