Fantastic location, Staff were helpful and breakfast was great. Only a few minutes walk and you're in the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh. Would definitely recommend this b&b and the price is very reasonable compared to other b&bs in the area.

Sited a few minutes walk from Waverley station, the Elder York is a pleasant guest house. Be aware, there are a lot of stairs. The reception is up a lot of stairs, and the rooms are on higher floors again. The room, although small, was comfortable, warm and very clean. The shower was OK, and again, very clean. The staff...

I visited Edinburgh on 4th of December and i stayed two nights in Elder York. The hotel is located in a very calm place; Hotel staff were very friendly. Food was also quite good. Most important thing is easy access to City center and also to Railway station. It's just 10 minutes walk from the hotel to the station

My Mum and I stayed here at the end of November. We were attending "Wicked" at the Playhouse. (which was brilliant!) The guest house is probably 200 yards from the main bus station. It is ideally situated for shopping/ Omni centre and the theatre. The main reception and dining area were up 65 steps (mum counted them!) The receptionist was...

Generally, the guest house was nice. Centrally located, albeit parking is a problem but that is noted on their website. Very pleasant hostess, and the first impression of the establishment was generally very good. Breakfast was really nice and to be honest the overall value was pretty good. However we were in Room 12 which had a couple of problems......

Just returned from a lovely overnight stay at this guest house. When we arrived we were shown to our room by a very pleasant gentleman who introduced himself as Harry. Our room was spotlessly clean, with everything we needed, and were told if we needed anything else we only had to ask. The room was lovely & clean, and had...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
