We spent a weekend on October 2016. Adria House is located 15’on foot from Waverly train station and 10’ on foot from the end of Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace at the feet of Calton Hill. It was our first time in a B&B and we were very pleased. It was a family run B&B and Maria, the co owner,...

What an amazing stay, in an amazing property, in an amazing city! First, a little background: we were traveling as a couple without children, and I am a former travel agent, so VERY picky about cleanliness and overall service. I am also a foodie, so poorly prepared food bothers me and is something I don't care to eat. This was...

We really enjoyed staying at Adria House. We had a lovely big family room on the first floor with beautiful views out the window. Adria House is in a great location for exploring Edinburgh and the breakfasts were delicious! It is within easy walking distance of Waverley Station.

This B&B is incredibly cute - one of the prettiest B&Bs that I've ever stayed in. It's in a great location walking distance to shops, restaurants, the train stations, and sights. There is a hair dryer in the room and the internet works well. The hosts were gracious and the breakfast was delicious! The only downside is that the bed...

We recently visited Edinburgh and stayed at the Adria House. Couldn't have asked for a better location, The room was light and bright with huge windows looking out onto Royal Terrace, with big shutters to close if we wanted to sleep in a bit. The room was spotless and the bed was very comfortable! While not attached to the room,...

My cousin recommended Adria House, I had a quick Google and looked at the website, but didn't really know what to expect until we arrived. Our room was magnificent, the location is very central and the service was friendly and efficient. It was not expensive, but felt really special.

We booked on the spur of the moment and it couldn't have been better. We were a bit worried before we got there on two counts. Shared bathroom and parking. Turns out there was no need for concern. The bathroom wasn't shared, it was just for us, even though it was next door. And most rooms have an en-suite anyway....

High up on the Royal Terrace, quiet and yet central, the Adrian could not be better located. Waverley station is an easy ten minute walk, and in a quarter of an hour you can be on the top of Calton Hill looking over the city and across to Fife. Inside is calm and refined, with interiors and fittings matching the...

Stayed here for just one night and it was very good. It is in a great location, just a 15 minute walk brings you into the heart of Edinburgh. There is free overnight parking just outside the hotel and reasonably priced day time parking nearby. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby. The hotel itself is a beautiful...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The family-run Adria House offers charming, comfortable accommodation and good value for it's central location. It is within easy walking distance of the main bus and train stations and also near many of Edinburgh's principal cultural, historical and retail landmarks. Situated on Calton Hill within a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once a fashionable society house, the Adria House embodies much of the Georgian architecture and decorative elegance associated with the period found within Edinburgh's New Town. ... more   less
