Nira Caledonia has so much going for it. Beautifully appointed and perfectly located with a modern-vibe in classic Georgian townhouses. The rooms are small but comfy with quality linens, L'Occitane bath liquids, and Nespresso coffee machine. The lovely breakfast buffet, augmented with delicious hot items, comes with the room price. Unfortunately, the hotel has the feel of absentee ownership. The...

Myself and my partner booked into a standard room in this hotel and it was absolutely stunning! A smaller room but amazingly spacious with great views and a very comfy bed! We stayed for 3 nights- 4 days and on the first night my boyfriend proposed in the hotel and the staff were so amazing and gave us a glass...

When my son and I arrived there was a snafu as the double room I had booked apparently did not exist. However Sean went out of his way to make up for the mixup - the whole staff was lovely and really went the extra mile to make my 12 year old feel at home - extra glasses of milk...

This hotel is the designated accommodation of the tour company - so not our choice. We were allocated room 10/1 which has a great view over the rooftops. The downer is that this 3rd level room is accessed by STAIRS only with the last 25 steps very narrow. So watch out if you are elderly or not used to scaling...

The hotel was perfect in every way. We met friends there and both of us had great rooms. It is located in a quiet area close to everything in easy walking distance. The service was great, the restaurant was great and so was the location. We will definitely come back. Thanks, Nira Caledonia for making our stay amazing!

Very pleasant stay for 4 nights and a return night on our way home from Edinburgh. Would definitely always come back to stay here. Our first room was very small on the 4th floor (no elevators), very clean and cosy, only a shower. Our return room on the second floor was a full tub bath, larger room, very very comfortable...

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nira Caledonia is surrounded by the cobbled streets and Georgian elegance of New Town, a short stroll from Princes Street, Nira Caledonia is a central yet peaceful Edinburgh retreat. Amid the plush pelmets, rich textures and original cornices you'll find flat-screen televisions, Nespresso coffee machines, complimentary Wi-Fi and iPod docking stations. You'll find warm, heartfelt service and a cool, quirky style. Each of our sumptuous rooms and suites is unique, with its own opulent character. Many have vast floor-to-ceiling sash windows, others open out onto a private garden and some feature a relaxing Jacuzzi. All have new ultra-comfortable beds and pillows of goose feather and down. As a protected Grade A building we don't have a lift, but our porters are always on hand and we offer 24-hour room service. The cuisine at our restaurant is natural, fresh and often organic, with ingredients farmed, caught, raised or bred in Scotland and with over 25 Scotch whiskey blends and single malts, our bar also focuses on local flavours. With a friendly touch - and a touch of theatre - we welcome independent-minded travellers who prefer to go their own way. Come our way. ... more   less
