We couldn't fault anything. Staff, location, breakfast and facilities were all spot on. Very close to bars and restaurants with the Omni Centre being the hub of entertainment. Only a short walk to Carlton Hill for magnificent views over the city.

We have just come back from a two night stay at the Broughton in Edinburgh and we had a lovely time. The location is perfect for all the main attractions, if you don't like to walk too far the tram stop is two streets away and in no time you can be anywhere. You are close enough to the City...

Freddie and Fiona were warm, welcoming and helpful hosts. We had a good sized room with a very comfortable bed. A hearty breakfast was cooked to order. The Broughton Hotel is situated in a quiet, pleasant street, but ideally located within walking distance of all main attractions, pubs and restaurants.

Ideal location, with free off street parking, very convenient for exploring Edinburgh. Room clean, comfortable and well furnished, but quite tight for space, as was the ensuite. Friendly host and good breakfast.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
