Booked into the Straven for a stay over and what a great place to stay. Sinead and Chris are great hosts and very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was awesome with a great choice. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. Just a minutes walk to the beach and Sinead is a wealth of information on the area and where...

This was our second visit to Straven over the Hogmanay period and once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Mac and Marion have left the guest house in the very capable hands of their daughter and son in law Sinead and Chris who are equally as warm and welcoming. We had the same Double room which has lovely views of...

We stayed here as it was close to family and were more than pleasantly surprised at how clean, accommodating and reasonably priced this accommodation was. The breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice and lots of special surprise treats offered, all organic and made by the hosts. Chris and Sinead were there to give advice on the area, and we...

We spent two nights at Straven Guest House so we could experience Edinburgh at Christmas. The accommodation we had was very spacious and comfortable with a huge bed. The house is beautiful. The breakfasts were fabulous with lots of choices including home made yoghurt and muesli, fresh fruits, oats and the cooked breakfast was very good. Very helpful owners. Will...

The Straven is a family run bed and breakfast in the seaside town of Portobello just east of Edinburgh, I had the privilege of performing in pantomime in this sleepy little town and the Straven provided my accommodation and what a wonderful choice it was. I arrived for two nights stay early on a Friday afternoon and was welcomed with...

This past September was our 4th visit to Scotland, and as with our previous visits we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Edinburgh but Straven. So much so, that we waited to book our flight until we had made our bookings at Straven. Prior to our booking, we went on the Straven website, and were surprised to see that there...

Located a short bus ride from center city, in a lovely area with a wonderful walkway along the waterfront. Each night we strolled along enjoying the sunset on our way to a charming offbeat dinner. Breakfast at the guest house was substantial and tasty, the room was spacious, the hosts were friendly. Only regret is that we did not plan...

Was a great stay at the Straven guest house, the owners were very hospitable and friendly. Breakfast was outstanding and we were lucky to get nice weather while in Edinburgh. The street is quiet and right near the beautiful beach for morning strolls. I don't have any real complaints about our stay, it felt a little stuffy in the room...

Our second visit to the Straven guest house. The welcome on arrival and personal service are just a couple of the reasons we came back. The owners made us so welcome. Their breakfasts are the best we have had anywhere. We were visiting friends in Portabello and they too were made very welcome. We would recommend the Straven to anyone...
