Perfect from start to finish. After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor we know we would be well looked after and James and Angela made our stay most welcoming. The room was delightful as many other guests have also commented on, with lots of personal touches (even going so far as buying mint tea for my wife!) Our flight got... More

As soon as i pulled on Hart Street I was impressed with the location of the No.14. Walking through the large front door into a grand looking hall way I was even more impressed. The room was exquisite with minor detail attended to. The wine that is replenished is a lovely addition to the stay. The bed was extremely to... More

We stayed for the weekend at the start of November and were so pleased we picked it. Angela and James are the perfect hosts. The room was decorated beautifully and the ensuite bathroom was fab with the most fantastic shower. There are Jo strict rules about having breakfast early,we had ours at 10am both mornings. The wine and whiskey in... More

We came to 14 Hart Street late in the evening after arriving by plane and were happy to find such a cosy accommodation a few minutes walk from the centre. First we were puzzled by not seeing any visible signs of a B&B which one is used to seeing at such places, merely the number of the house showed us... More

My mum and I recently spent 4 nights at this gorgeous B & B. James and Angela are the perfect hosts - nothing was too much trouble. Betty, the housekeeper was a gem too. We stayed in a twin room - as mentioned in other reviews, we had the complimentary tray of drinks and goodies. The bathroom, whilst on the... More

We had a fabulous time in Edinburgh. Staying at 14 Hart Street was all we hoped it would be plus more. James and Angela are lovely and made us feel very welcome and Betty the housekeeper is a darling. I fell in love with the building, from the flag stones and floor boards to the wonderful high ceilings and cornicing.... More

This charming and exquisite B&B run by James and Angela is faultless. Our room was beautifully and elegantly furnished, with exquisite little extras that set it apart from most B&B's. Scotch, red and white wine, are just some of these extras. The ambience of the room matches the tasteful furnishings, while the large bathroom with its fluffy towels pampers you... More

My now fiancée and i had a fantastic stay at 14 Hart street on our recent UK trip. We stayed two nights at this little gem and would recommend it to anyone after a lovely b & b style place in Edinburgh. Hidden down a little back street it is quiet, clean, elegantly presented and has lovely owners, that are... More

We stayed at 14 Hart Street for a long weekend. The accommodation was nicely decorated, the bed was comfy and the house was well heated. We were a group of three so my husband and I had one room and my mum stayed across the hall. Our room had a large bed but a small bathroom while my mum's room... More

My wife and I recently took a 3-week trip around the UK and stayed in 6 bed and breakfast places and one hotel in London. Our selections were made, where possible, based on information and ratings on Tripadvisor. My pre-trip searching identified a host of B&Bs in Edinburgh, many with excellent ratings. We chose 14 Hart Street for our 2-night... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
