I had a private room with a lock and felt very secure. The shared bathroom was single-occupancy (with a lock) and provided plenty of privacy. Overall I felt like I got good value (Edinburgh is an expensive place!) but the room and facilities were... quite dingy. The entire complex could use a major overhaul.

Typical student accommodation. Hard beds, creaky floors and doors that slam. Take earplugs for a good night sleep. However it is cheap and central and warm. Each room is located in a separate flat of 5 rooms with a kitchen attached. The bathrooms are shared and accommodation can be either all male, all female or mixed so be careful when... More

I arranged our stay for my group of 23 Girl Guides for 3 nights in July. Each pod has 6 single rooms, 2 full baths (3 bedrooms & 1 bath down each hall) and a kitchen/dining/sitting area. We rented 4 complete pods. The rooms were clean. Location was convenient to all the sights and transportation links. We arrived the day... More

Hi, Tyank you very much for your kind review, glad we looked after you and sorry about the mix up with bags. We don't officially get the building until a certain time, but we got in early that day so it wasn't a problem. Hope too see you again. Lorna Padden More

Awful beds, low standard facilities, great staff, not too expensive. Being used to hostelling all over the world, I find the time travel-aspect of hostels in the UK amusing. It is like living in the 1950´s! The bathroom has a basin with seperate hot and cold taps, crappy lights, the heater is of the kind we put in cars in... More

This is a very centrally located youth hostel and has all the amenities you need for a short break to the August Edinburgh Festivals. We are a group of four and were given an apartment of 4 flats for our stay. The apartment contained 4 single flats, a shared bathroom and a shared kitchen. Although I understand there are 5... More

I stayed here with friends as we were visiting Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival. My friends and I are all in our early twenties and are graduates, so we were after student-style cheap accommodation that would act solely as a place where we could sleep for the night. The basic quality of the rooms was not a problem for me... More

We booked a 6 room apartment with 2 bathrooms. We were a group of 6 friends. Unfortunately, the shower in one of the bathrooms was not functioning. I stayed two nights here. It's student accommodation during term time, so that gives you an idea of what the rooms/buildings are like. Inside the room was a single bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and... More

I stayed at this hostel for two nights during the Fringe festival and it did not disappoint. Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

Edinburgh Metro accommodation is in single rooms only, within private apartments of 4, 5 and 6 rooms available to book. Each apartment has shared bathroom and kitchen facilities, with reception open 24 hours. Edinburgh Metro Youth Hostel is ideal for groups or individuals visiting the city. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy.
