It’s a beautiful venue for a wedding however the actual room accommodation was a bit dated. There was mould on the windows in the room and in the bathroom (possibly mould staining on the grouting) but it was also in the corners of the steel fixtures. The shower head could be replaced with one for better water flow because the one that is there is of a pretty poor standard. I also had a wee spider visitor in the bathroom. But i just let him chill in the corner.
There was no valance on the beds in the room which made the room look a bit cheap. (I don’t think this is due to covid as other rooms had the valance sheets on the bed). One of the chairs was stained also, as well as the floor.
The beds were not great, very poor quality unfortunately. It was difficult to get to sleep just because of the quality of the mattress however once I did get to sleep I did sleep well. The pillows were very floofy and comfy and so was the duvet. There were no plugs next to the bed that you can plug your phone into, so if you’re one of those people who charges your phone overnight and also as your alarm then you’re out of luck!
The room was also quite dull, but I did have a lovely view of the countryside out of mine. There was no overhead light so it did make it difficult to do make up etc. The room could probably be brightened up a bit by painting the really dark wood a light, bright colour.
My room was a twin, and it was a really generous sized, spacious room. Plenty of storage space and you had a kettle, hair dryer and iron board in the room. The room was clean (except for the mould) and functional and was good for a couple of nights stay. There are no fridges in the rooms. The soap that was provided was in bar form and it was a lovely smelling hand soap. There was also one in the shower, this was a liquid soap.
The breakfast was great, plenty of options and best of all they had tattie scones. However, they had run out of some items very early on on the morning of breakfast. The orange juice was average but the black pudding was amazing (stornoway black pudding). You could also get room service which was nice.
As mentioned earlier, the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating if they tried, they were all so friendly and helpful and they really made the stay something special.
10/10 for a wedding venue
5/10 for actual accommodation
10/10 for the staff
9/10 for the breakfast
Location is ideal for exploring the Falkirk area but there’s not a lot in close vicinity, although The Kelpies are a 10 minute walk away.
The staff we encountered at reception, in the bar, and especially at breakfast were all super helpful and friendly. Breakfast was piping hot and lovely both mornings. The second morning they had introduced some cold buffet items as restrictions start to lift. Hot items cooked to order.
The Fernies.
After all this after checking our booking they had put us in a double room when we had paid for an executive room and have said they don't understand why this happened. No call back at all after calling numerous times, please if you book a room check what they are putting you in as they obviously over book executive rooms and put you in a standard thinking you won't know what room is what. Check and check again with this hotel even better don't book at all.
Water issue has been on going for a long time and obviously have no regard for their customers basic needs.
The lady on reception could not have been more disinterested if she tried. We were told where our room was and nothing much else, there was no 'how has your journey been?',or any general chit-chat, we weren't even told what time we had to checkout.
We booked bed and breakfast in a executive king room at £199 per night for 2 nights and were given room 103 in the main building. I don't know what made it executive it wasn't anything flash! Our view was the hotel carpark and the asda distribution centre.
1 small bottle of elemis shower gel, 1 small bottle of elemis body wash (enough for 1 person to shower), a bar of soap and a shower cap were the toiletries. One bottle of still and one bottle of sparkling water (left in full sun in front of the window)
We found the tea and coffee in a cupboard eventually..uht milk and no biscuits.
We dined at cooks restaurant across the car park which was OK, my husband really enjoyed his meal. My starter was very nice.
We decided to go back to the hotel bar for a drink it was 9 pm, the bar was shut..... apparently, it closes at 9 / 9.30.
We decided to call it a night and went to our room. We tried to have a shower, but there was no pressure at all. It reminded us of a shower we had when we were camping. We went to bed disappointed and annoyed.
There was a wedding downstairs and you could hear the music in ourroom...when that stopped after 1am the noise of the traffic from outside and the rattling single payned window took over along with dripping toilet cistern. It was like being part of an SAS endurance trial.
After no sleep, we went for breakfast. There's a really good choice of breakfast things both cooked and continental. The breakfast staff were very pleasant.
We explained at reception about the shower, and they sent maintenance up who came and looked, but there was no improvement in it at all.
After finding out there was a wedding on the second night, we purchased some earplugs and had a much better night's sleep.
The hotel is in walking distance of the magnificent Kelpies.
The food in cooks was excellent the portions were very large, certainly value for money.
Rooms clean and tidy.
The breakfast I consider cheaper than a lot of hotels and whilst everything was fresh I personally would have preferred slightly more choice from the buffet (wider range of fruit and yoghurt) and from the hot menu although there was a veggie breakfast perhaps the option of a veggie breakfast roll so there was something hot but not quite a big breakfast.
Would stay again.
A special thank you to Rosie who looked after us in the restaurant - she was lovely- and to the lovely receptionist who gave us a very warm welcome and checked us out the following morning-two people who are great at their jobs
We would definitely do a return stay when we’re next on our travels in that area
I am on crutches awaiting a spinal op, and Shona on reception done everything to make sure our room was perfect for us. Ground floor. Nice big deep bath, and a shower.
We'd definitely recommend this hotel, based on the food alone! Dean is a very talented Chef. Our food was simply delicious. Fine dining at a reasonable price and decent portion sizes. I had lamb as a main. It was so tender. Followed by hand made profiteroles which were to die for!
We were served by Rosie, both for dinner, and again for breakfast. Brilliant service all round.
We kind of got the feeling that during covid, the staff worked well as a team. We felt safe at all times too.
The location is ideal for visiting the Kelpies, and also has free parking.
Don't hesitate to book this hotel. You won't regret it xx
The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful and we all enjoyed a lovely dinner at the adjacent Cooks restaurant and breakfast in the cute Rosie's tearoom. We didn't use the bar as we had a bottle of fizz in our room.
Our room was in the annexe at the back of the hotel. It was a good size and comfortable with a fab shower, although the furniture was a little tired and the decor rather dated.
We would return for a future stay.
