Whether it's your first visit to Rufflets or you've been coming to stay with us for years, you'll feel like you've always been part of our extended family by the welcome you receive. Within the main house, every bedroom has its own distinct shape, size and personality, but each one is as warm and inviting as the next. Further rooms and a four-bedroom lodge are located within the grounds where we welcome your four-legged friends. New to Rufflets is our Woodland Suites. Nestled in the tranquillity of the hotel's leafy grounds, each suite is individually designed and decorated and features a private deck with wonderful views of the beautiful natural landscape. Experience wellbeing through nourishing food. Our garden and produce are at the very heart of every meal. We encourage every guest to connect with nature through their dining experience with us, which is why we have created social and dining spaces on our terraces and in our gardens, as well as inside the hotel.

Rufflets Hotel stands out for its picturesque location near Saint Andrews, where guests can wander through beautiful gardens and enjoy a tranquil ambiance. The rooms are generally spacious and comfortable, with modern bathrooms, although reviews suggest they can vary in temperature and style.
While the hotel's service receives high marks for being friendly and welcoming, some guests have experienced slow service. The hotel's amenities, including a cozy bar and diverse dining options, are well-liked, but the food quality and value for money have been points of contention for some visitors.

Detailed Reviews
Just returned from a 3 night stay yesterday in Rufflets St Andrews. What can we say absolutely perfection ! We stayed in Kinnesse Lodge in the grounds 2 minute walk from main hotel this lodge is stunning spotless dog friendly all on one level so was great for elderly parents who were staying with us. The owners, staff could not do enough for us very personal friendly service nothing was a bother. The hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful, stunning gardens we loved sitting on The Terrace for couple of drinks admiring the beautiful gardens. Food amazing all home and local produce breakfast outstanding. We booked dinner for my 50th Birthday steak was so succulent. Chef had even cooked dinner for my baby dog Rocco on request he absolutely loved it ! 5 star hotel definitely thank you for having us and we cannot wait to book to come back x

It was the food that attracted us to Rufflets and we were not disappointed. The fine dining restaurant offers a short but interesting fixed price menu (or there is also a bar menu) and we were not disappointed, with desserts showing particular skills.
Breakfast was also impressive in both choice and quality; and you can even have a filled roll if that takes your fancy.
Our bedroom (35) was spacious, very comfortable and included a large modern bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle.
Public rooms invite relaxation and we enjoyed a walk round the gardens, despite the earliness of the season.

Our first short hotel stay with our young dog. Rufflets gave us a warm welcome, the dog treats & dog towel a nice touch. Dog friendly rooms are in the wee gatehouse 1 min from the main building which was great for noise seperation and a bit of added seclusion. Our room was modern in decor and large with a sitting area and plenty of storage and dressing table. Huge bathroom with deep bath for soaking, large walk in rain shower and gorgeous molten brown products. We appreciated the enormous fluffy bath towels, tea/coffee/water and delicious shortbread. For breakfast you preorder the night before which was fine as there was lots on the menu to suit most appetites. We opted to get it delivered to our room so we could stay with our pup. All requests accommodated without question. A pleasure getting the food brought to us, made it extra relaxing. The food arrived hot and was really tasty. The sausage and haggis were particularly delicous.
For dinner we were able to have the restaurant menu in the bar with the dog. This was very welcomed as the food was first class and we were delighted at having that option without being forced to eat bar food like some hotels. Great wine selection. Particular highlights were the lamb, duck and sweetcorn & garlic veloute.
The staff were all exceptional. Very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The housekeeping was excellent and we felt very well cared for throughout.
The hotel and gardens are so beautiful and it's clear Rufflets is well loved and long may it continue. We look forward to a repeat visit possibly in one of the lodges.

This hotel came highly rated, so we were disappointed that the room we stayed in was nice, but not anything special, and the quality of food was average (not terrible, but certainly not memorable). Also, when we arrived with large bags we were not told that the room was up two flights of steps. The person who checked us in did offer to help, but it would have been nice to let us know just how far we had to carry the bags. The breakfast offerings were adequate, but given how much the room cost not at all up to the standard we received at other hotels and inns (and often for less money). This is not a bad place at all - but it is "tired" and the food is just OK.

My wife and I had a week's holiday staying 2 nights in 3 different hotels. We were foolish enough to treat ourselves to a so called suite at Rufflets at a cost of ÂŁ450 per night for dinner b&b. The [Gilroy] suite consisted of a compact sitting room with totally outdated decor leading through to an equally compact bedroom. There were none of the accoutrements you might expect of a suite such as bathrobes etc. Unlike the other 2 hotels at which we stayed Rufflets did not make up the room for the second day and appeared horrified at the idea the housekeeper could be asked to enter the room. The other hotels, for which we were paying less than half the cost of Rufflets, simply asked us to leave open the window and the rooms were beautifully made up.
Dinner was a huge disappointment with too many things being charged as extras. There was no bread basket and we were told we would have to order artisan bread off the menu. We did so and when it finally arrived it was simply bulky slices of breakfast toast burnt to the point it was inedible. They apologised and replaced it with doughy white buns. You couldn't make it up! The table next to us had a lentil salad. When it arrived the diner said 'I can see the lentils, but where's the salad]? The waitress uncovered a salad leaf and when the gentleman burst out laughing she apologised and brought back a plate of salad. At another table a couple wanted to share biscuits & cheese and asked if they would add one or two biscuits. They were told they would have to charge for them. Bearing in mind the cost of the dinner they felt it was ridiculous.
Overall, for a hotel of this standing the dinner menu was poor and the food and service were substandard.
We will not be going back and we certainly do not recommend it!

Your recent stay with us was not a positive one and, as discussed on your departure day, we do appreciate all feedback as this as an essential tool to help us get better at what we do. The hotel is situated in a lovely rural location outside St Andrews and has a very peaceful setting. We had a standard double which was comfortable but a little tired in places. The public areas are very nice and comfortable with a relaxing feel. The meal we had was well cooked and very tasty and the breakfast was cooked to order. Very friendly staff made our stay pleasant. The hotel was quiet during our stay which made it feel more like a private house than a hotel but it was comfortable. All in all very nice and would return.

We stayed in this hotel for one night. Despite it being a Friday night, the hotel was very quiet (assuming due to the time of year) - only a few guest cars in the car park, and very quiet inside.
The hotel is overall very well kept, and the communal areas are clean and very well maintained. The grounds/gardens are larger than expected and well kept, would like to see them during the summer.
On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who showed us to our room, which was a pleasant surprise.
The room was larger than we expected, as was the bathroom (and quite a large bath) - comfy king size bed and large towels too. The room was quite minimally decorated which was a shame for the quality otherwise. We had a reasonable nights sleep regardless.
We felt a few minor improvements were needed. The room was lacking a TV, fridge and a safe, which we would consider normal in a hotel or this standard. The temperature of the room was very warm (bearing in mind this is early March) despite the radiators all being off and we had to open the windows repeatedly. The water temperature was also difficult to control - took a long time to heat up, then immediately became boiling hot and took a long time to cool down.
We also unfortunately found a half empty bottle of water (same brand as complementary in the room, so presumably from a previous guest) behind one of the bedside cabinets.
We visited the bar at night, which was very quiet but cosy with a real fire. The bartender was very pleasant and attentive, and the drinks were of a good quality.
Breakfast included in the price. Nice dining area, with table service and options of hot drinks and cooked breakfasts. Service very attentive and prompt. Food was overall very good and high quality - slightly limited continental selection but not really an issue for us.
Staff throughout our stay were all very friendly and attentive, and clearly hard working. Checkout very easy with another very pleasant receptionist. Would return in future and likely recommend.

You need a car (or like a long walk) to get to town but it is very peaceful. The staff are very attentive and cheerful. The food was a pleasure, including the breakfast. Nice to walk round the gardens - especially the veg gardens.
Our room was very quiet (at the front of the hotel) - with cupboards at either side of us so wouldnt have heard any noise from other rooms.

Rufflets is a fantastic hotel, its location is perfect for trips into the town and has amazing grounds and gardens. The overall atmosphere is very homely and inviting, from the minute we entered we were greeted by Emma who made our stay most enjoyable. She was there for us whenever we needed her and we felt she was the foundation to our overall fantastic experience. The room we were given was perfect for our needs, with a new puppy recently joining the family, the easy access to the gardens along with the more isolated building made our pup feel perfectly at home. He was welcomed as much as we were and we felt at home bringing him into different areas of the hotel especially the bar. The bar was so cozy and quiet, perfect for us to sit and whine down for the night. Overall our stay was smooth and we had no issues.

When considering how we might best celebrate the end of last year and the introduction to this year we were attracted by the Hogmanay Dinner and Ceilidh offered by Rufflets Hotel, so much so that we arranged to stay there from Monday 30th December until Friday 3rd January. This was one of the best, perhaps even the best, of the many good decisions that we made in 2024. Booking our stay and this special farewell to the old year and warm welcome to this year was straightforward. Our welcome on arrival was splendid, our luggage being quickly carried to our beautifully appointed bedroom. Every meal, freshly cooked whether breakfast or dinner, even morning coffee, from comprehensive menus was appetising, washed down by an appealing variety of wines, beers and spirits in the very comfortable lounge, the comfort being enhanced by the warmth of an open fire.
The Hogmanay dinner and ceilidh excelled. The company of about eighty guests, mostly strangers one to another, rapidly becoming friends, participating not just in every dance skilfully led by a very capable three-piece band but playing fun baccarat and roulette, the most skilful, or lucky, winner sharing her prize of champagne with all at her table.
None of this should have been a surprise as we have been regular visitors to Rufflets since the mid 1950s and have, invariably, enjoyed all our time there, the only exception being a slight blip a few years ago, now repaired, when a long serving manager retired. There were no blips this time so much so that we unreservedly advise everyone visiting St Andrews to make their trip to this historic, wonderful city perfect by spending time at Rufflets.

Hi
I was talking about the bar menu not the food menu
Thanks for the message. If you email our reservations team to say you are interested in the Open 2021 week. We will be finalising prices in the next week and once done will be able to quote.
Hi David
I am afraid that dogs aren’t allowed into any area of the main house. We do have 4 rooms in external buildings that we allow dogs into.
Regards
Stephen
Dear Judith,
Thank you for the message - and sorry if the descriptors are not clear, we will loom at this.
All of our rooms have showers, although some do not have bath as well.
If you give us a call on 01334 472594, or email our reservations team, we can discuss this in more detail. We do have decent availability for the 28th, but less for the 29th (not sure if you are looking for both nights).
Regards
Stephen
Sorry no we don't but out guests can use the spa at Fairmont by prior arrangement.
