We are a small, friendly, informal 3 star hotel. The first in St Andrews to be awarded the prestigious title 'Townhouse Hotel' by the Scottish Tourist Board. The quaint old building has a warm personality all of its own. You will love the craftsmanship of the many original features. Built from 1764, the hotel consists of two Georgian terraced houses, both exactly the same layout, built for two brothers by their father, Mr Thomas Low. With only 22 rooms (all en-suite), we are able to maintain very high standards in accommodation and service without losing our warm and caring attitude towards our guests. Special, great value seasonal, weekend and golf breaks are often available, so contact the hotel for details. The hotel will also be delighted to help arrange golf, sightseeing tours and visits to places of interest. We look forward to you spending some time with us at The Albany Hotel and getting a real flavour for everything St Andrews has to offer.

What an astounding find this beautiful perfectly located hotel in the centre of St Andrews was for me. The staff were SO nice and SO helpful.
No detail is overlooked. It's furnished in a traditional way lovely furniture, watercolour scenes around the historic town on the walls. My bedroom was extremely comfortable, warm a selection of kelp soaps & shampoos in the super bathroom. However the highlight was the breakfast that i had been eagerly anticipating having peeked at the menu when i arrived.
There were so many traditional Scottish breakfast dishes ofon offer, like smoked haddock with poached egg, kippers and scrambled egg and porridge and cream to kick off with ! I plumped for smoked salmon with scrambled egg and lots of toast that arrived  in a traditional silver toast rack ! It was honestly the best smoked salmon that possibly i have ever eaten ! a great mound of it too, not as is usually the case sliced transparently thin. Annoyingly I was pushed for time otherwise-and certainly next time - i would have relished lingering for a couple of hours tasting all the delicious offerings on the buffet table. Recommended with out hesitation, St Andrews has great architecture, shops and is close to the famous golf links.

We stayed one night in the Albany Hotel. As a family of 3 we were given the Junior Suite on the ground floor, which consisted of the main bedroom with tv and with the bathroom with shower (no bath) off it, and a separate bedroom up 2 stairs with a single bed. From that bedroom, we had access to a decked seating area, for use only by people in the Junior Suite. The rooms were spacious, immaculate and tastefully furnished, and bathroom was clean. Kettle and complimentary toiletries were provided, despite covid. Beds were comfortable. Only downside we found was that there was no window in the main bedroom, and the French doors onto the decked area were accessible by climbing a wall so not safe to be left open at night, so the rooms were a bit stuffy overnight as we were staying during a Scottish heatwave! Otherwise we could not fault the room at all. We were booked on a B&B basis, and breakfast in the morning was safely done following covid protocols. Food was freshly cooked and tasty, with a good choice. The waitress was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. There is a small bar area, which was open until 11pm, serving drinks and coffees. It was very friendly and prices were great value for money compared to some establishments we have visited (ÂŁ7 for 2 coffees and a soft drink). I can imagine in the winter this bar area would be lovely to relax in at the end of a day touring St Andrews with its comfortable chairs/sofas and fire. The reception staff were polite, helpful and well informed of the local area, and offered to book us table for dinner on our arrival in a local restaurant. Check in was simple and quick. The hotel itself is small but ideally placed for all St Andrews amenities and tourist attractions. There is free unlimited time parking outside the hotel, but for a limited area - be careful not to end up in the paid section! Town centre is a 5minute walk away and we walked to the aquarium in 10 minutes which is next to the beach and golf course. An excellent little hotel which we will return to in the future.

From the minute we entered The Albany, we felt welcome, check in was quick & efficient. Our room was conveniently situated on the ground floor which suited us. The room was clean & well equipped with a generous hospitality tray. We enjoyed a most comfortable stay with a delicious breakfast. Before setting out on our homeward journey we asked where we could find public toilets & were invited to use the hotel facilities even though we had previously checked out, this was much appreciated as we had a 140 mile drive ahead.

This hotel has some positive points but…..many negative. Would I stay here again? Nope. The location was great for walking around the city, golf course, University, Castle and restaurants. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was self serve and custom made with several choices located in the downstairs room. I am unsure if they had a lift so this may be a problem for folks who are unable to do steps. Now the room itself…. We stayed in “The Den”. (Run to another hotel if offered this room). Located next to the reception area so it was noisy with people coming and going. The room itself was very small with a tiny functional bathroom. The carpet was filthy with stains and was disgusting. I would not walk in it with bare feet if I were you. The bed was small with a old lumpy mattress in need of replacing. As sleeping for the night was reason for staying this was unexceptional. The wallpaper was peeling with stains running down the wall. The cheap laminate wood furniture was peeling. The curtains were gross and needed a good cleaning. They provided a bottle of what I assume was tap water with a non sealed stopper. There is no designated parking but we were lucky to find street parking nearby. There was loud walking up the steps and above so thin walls. The entire hotel could use a major up do. The front steps are not disable or handicap friendly so keep that in mind. In one word….yuck

Thank you posting another review. I am sorry to hear your thoughts on the hotel and room especially. The cold selection at breakfast is a buffet which is typical of many hotels and we do have an extensive menu of cooked breakfast options to order, which are cooked to order. I would have liked the opportunity to have looked at an alternative room for you, had you made us aware of your thoughts during the time you were at the hotel. I appreciate you comments regarding the staff. I have certainly taken your points onboard.

This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in! The rooms are so small, the beds are so bad, held together by bolts, the interior is falling apart, chipping, cracking in every room. You can’t open the window to get fresh air, the bathroom is so small, the floor is coming apart in the bathroom and bedroom. The shower is dangerous, you can only push a button, first ice cold water - then burning hot water- never works properly. Anytime anyone flushes a toilet in the hotel a loud sound goes off. The hot water on my sink NEVER WORKED! The staff is friendly, The breakfast is good. The place should close and renovate instead of taking peoples $$

My wife and I stayed two nights in a twin bedded room at the front of the hotel. The room was not adequate. It was very small and there was no surface to place our two carry-on sized bags except the floor. The beds dipped some in the middle. The fan in the bathroom could run for 30 minutes after turning off the bathroom light (they were coupled): the hotel staff explained that that was to keep the moisture down in the bathroom after showers. All these problems would have been minor if we could have had quiet for sleeping. The room was was located on the ground floor next to the stairs, and we were repeatedly awakened by late returning guests talking loudly outside our door, often after midnight. Unfortunately, we could also easily hear people on the sidewalk talking as they walked by; and there was plenty of foot traffic as the hotel was across the street from the University. A nice touch was that the windows opened, however, the latch was broken and in a less secure environment, we might have worried about the lack of security. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, but they obviously couldn't solve the problems list above. The provided breakfast was fine, and typical of the ones we'd had throughout Scotland. I might add that this was one of the most expensive rooms we stayed in during our 2 week vacation spanning 5 accommodations, and the least satisfying.

Recently stayed for 2 nights with our daughter and her boyfriend, we all stopped in the 2 bedroom Garden Suite. The best description I can give it it scruffy, dreary and truly depressing! The room is situated downstairs and it’s as if the room has been forgotten and doesn’t matter because it’s out of the way. The hallway is scruffy and tatty and has a funny smell, not a pleasant one. The room is just horrible, drab wallpaper (though the water stains in the corner near the tv blend in), tatty carpet that doesn’t even fit properly as I found out coming out of the bathroom in bare feet when my heel found the gripper rod. The main room has 3 ceiling fittings, 2 of which only have 2 out of 3 shades so the fittings don’t even hang straight, the 3rd ceiling light has 3 shades one of which is broken. The ledge in the bedroom had stains on as did the radiator. The reception in the room is so bad the freeview on the tv never worked, occasionally Netflix loaded but that was hit and miss. The 2nd bedroom is within the first one so the bathroom can only be accessed through the main bedroom. The 2nd bedroom also has no windows so no natural light and is the same drab dingy wallpaper as the main room, same tatty decor and on the second morning our daughter woke to find a small slug on her sheets! The main room also has no wardrobe just some shelving unit with no hanging rail. The room is advertised as having garden access which is correct but it’s not a private section of the garden so you could be in your room with strangers sat at table and chairs right in front of your windows. No mini fridge to keep water / milk cool. One good point is the location, that is excellent. I can’t comment on the food or the bar as we didn’t experience them. I don’t know what the other rooms are like but the Garden Suite needs to either be used as something else or have a massive make over. I would not stay here again.

The location is perfect to visit St Andrew but a tiny room with a bed of 140 and a microscopic shower room , no air conditioning but with the small window that can only be opened it is quite bearable roof at night. Quiet hotel. Very good breakfast is served in a small room overlooking the garden No parking space in the street and we had to park 500 m away

What a great Little Hotel here at the Albany hotel. I stayed with friends for a golfing trip and I must say the staff at reception were kind and also the Cleaners too. The young man from housekeeping came to my room and gave me fresh towels and tea/coffes. Room was very clean and well presented. everything you need in it. Thanks to the girl at reception and boy from housekeeping for making my stay here more better I would stay again.

Hi. We do have mini refrigerators available which can be put in some of our rooms. All rooms have a kettle and a hairdryer. Let me know which type of room you have booked and I will let you know if this would be suitable for a refrigerator.
Kind regards
