My partner and I had booked this hotel to stay at. When we arrived there was a police van pulling up to go in and check out the hotel. This instantly made us uneasy, we were told that we had been “upgraded” to a double room as the room we had booked wasn’t available. The host at reception seemed unwelcoming and stressed, no one was wearing any masks which is a requirement due to covid. When we entered into the building there was a smell of dampness, our room was on basement level and the entire place smelled of smoke (I would like to add that i am a smoker and I still find this unacceptable) our room was filthy, stains on the walls, bedding and furniture. The carpet was stained and dirty, lampshades broken, the toilet had not been cleaned, the room smelled a mixture of sweat, faeces, smoke and damp. Giving the fact that we are currently in the midst of the covid pandemic with all business having to adhere to strict hygiene policies, this room certainly wasn’t clean and certainly not deep cleaned or acceptable for any guest to stay it. It felt like a homeless hostel, even at that I wouldn’t have anyone stay there. When we asked for a refund the man at reception was reluctant to give it and offered other rooms. There was another guest also at reception who was staying in the argyle part of the hotel who complained of the same issues we had. I don’t know where the 4 or 5 star reviews came on this hotel because I wouldn’t even give it one star. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Kelvin Hotel is in a great location, walking distance to West End attractions. My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night and whilst the bathroom was shared, it was clean and we never encountered another person anyway. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was AMAZING! We couldn't believe such a great breakfast was included in the price. After reading other reviews on here, of course you could PAY MORE for a better hotel, but for the price you pay for this one, its great value. 10/10 would stay again!
