Mercure Perth Hotel offers a central location highly regarded by guests for its proximity to local attractions, despite occasional noise concerns. While the hotel's atmosphere and amenities are met with mixed reviews, noting a need for modernization, the staff's professionalism and the cleanliness of the rooms consistently earn praise. Nonetheless, opinions on value diverge, as some guests appreciate the comfortable beds and reasonably priced food, while others are dissatisfied with the outdated decor and pricing.

Stayed here on a 2 night Wowcher deal. Hotel looks nice from outside. There is parking directly outside and another car park across from hotel. Room was ok and had a large comfortable bed. TV had few stations. Would have expected at least free view channels. WiFi was non existent in both room and public area. I tried connecting on 4 different devices but had no luck. This is ridiculous in this day and age. Bathroom was very dated and nothing like picture on website. Mould round bath and ceiling. Shower useless. Only 1 small single use tube of shower gel and shampoo between 2 people for 2 nights so take your own toiletries. We had dinner in first night which is included in deal. You get a £22 allowance towards menu which is although in restaurant is a fairly basic bar menu. £22 will only cover 2 courses. We had fish and chips which although advertised as beer battered fresh haddock with thick cut chips. It was in fact a frozen portion of fish shaped like a sausage roll. Chips were thin frozen type. There is no way I would pay the advertised price of £15 for this considering nearby pubs offering 2 better meals for £12. Restaurant is dull and dated and not somewhere you would chose for a night out. On the plus side for wine drinkers they allow you to have your free bottle of wine with meal. Normally you can only have it in your room. Breakfast is ok. Did not drink in bar as prices very expensive. On the plus side the staff are very friendly and hotel is in a good location in centre of town so plenty shops bars and restaurants nearby. Despite my complaints I would not rule out coming back as it was a good price.

We travelled with Jones Holidays of North wales for a 3 night stay. The staff were all helpful and friendly. We were asked to bring Covid passports & the coach company had provided us with LFTs beforehand. Strangely we were asked to carry our own cases up the steps to reception (door with ramp was not open). From there staff efficiently carried our cases to our rooms. We had a room overlooking the garden & mill stream. It was too warm for our liking but the radiator did turn off & we had an opening window. To minimise Covid we were supplied with bumper sets of fluffy towels (including proper bath sheets) and toilet rolls. Whilst the bathroom was a bit dated it was adequate & clean. We elected to make our own bed so no need for staff to enter our room. The hotel restaurant & bar staff wore face masks & reception staff were behind a glass screen. We were also asked to wear masks when walking around. Hand gel was widely available so we felt the hotel had done its best to minimise Covid risks. The food was excellent. I eat gluten free & the kitchen was really accommodating. Bottles of wine were a little pricey & bar staff did say they were having problems with beer supplies (sign of Covid times!). On New Years Eve we had live music from a local band (50s & 60s & Country). Enjoyed celebrating before new Covid rules kicked in at midnight. Really enjoyed our stay. A big thank you to the staff & especially the chef & his team

Visited Mercure for two nights stay put in a dated and tired ground floor room with a window which was difficult to close. Tried to move but was told they were full (in February !!!)

Breakfast was at an additional £11 which wasn’t worth the wait or money

No ham/cheese etc for choice fruit was edible at best. The hot food was a disaster as I had to wait on bacon and eggs for at least 10 minutes and when the eggs arrived they were hard and inedible. No sausages!!!! They ran out!!

Went to the bar at 6:30pm and the young lad who served was less than impressive quite dismissive at times. No tonic or as he said though later that evening when I returned the two younger very pleasant girls were able to find quite a few in the cellar!! No lemon no lime either

All in all disappointing which is a shame as the outside and reception has great character and features

Absolutely loved this hotel. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I broke my ankle prior to my arrival. They had issued us with a room on the 2nd floor (no lift, due to it being a listed building) and immediately changed it to the ground floor without me even asking. The hotel/rooms were spotless and clean. They were Covid secure and it was evident the lengths that they went to to ensure that we felt safe (sealed rooms, hand sanitiser everywhere). We chose to eat in the restaurant in the evening and we weren’t disappointed. It cost £25pp for 3 courses and worth every penny. The staff were attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. We also opted to have the breakfast (wasn’t included in room rate), however were able to pay the £11pp on our arrival. Again, we weren’t disappointed in the quality or quantity. Given the current global pandemic, things have had to change and the Mercure Perth did this in a way that made us feel safe, without interrupting our holiday. Thank you Mercure Perth. We will be back.

After receiving a voucher as a gift (5pm I think) we were booked to stay here on Sunday-Monday. When booking the voucher we requested that we be in a room that allows our dog as on the voucher this it what it states for a supplement charge. We were told that the room we would be in allows dogs so all was good on that part. We arrived at the hotel at which we were then told the hotel is no longer dog friendly and that the 5pm website hadn’t been updated. The receptionist was very nice and did try to sort this for us as it wasn’t our fault, however we were given a different room because we had our dog, the room that was given to us was clearly a downgrade from what we would have had. It was on the ground floor, probably the older rooms, the room was freezing, Tiny, dated, stains in the bath etc. Infact my little spaniel is more well kept than what the room was. We decided to have dinner early and checkout straight after. The receptionist didn’t even bother asking if everything was ok but merely responded with ‘that’s fine’. The food was ok nothing special, I ordered the salmon but it had so much oil at the bottom of the plate.

The only thing that was nice about this trip was the lovely walk we went on. Will definitely not be back, for something that wasn’t our fault I felt I could have been handled better.

This hotel is definitely unsuitable for people with disabilities as there were no lifts in operation. We asked for a first floor room and got one but it could only be accessed with difficulty by a small staircase. One of our party went to her room which had a sticker across the door stating that it had been cleaned. When inside it was found that there was poo in the toilet. Another of our party who also had a disability, could not take dinner in the restaurant because it was on the third floor of the hotel. They had to have dinner served in their room.
We found that the catering staff were extremely rude and this showed in their attitude toward guests at mealtimes. Some guests had to ask for their food after being ignored by staff; and some guests did not get their food at breakfast, again being ignored by staff. For those who did get their food, it was quite tasty.

Firstly, the positives of our recent break at the Mercure Hotel in Perth. The city of Perth is an excellent location at any time of the year, a beautiful backdrop with plenty of places to go and things to see. The New Year Street Party in the stunning village of Pitlochry was amazing and a real pleasure to see so many people enjoying the hard work of all those involved in putting on this wonderful event. The coach travel throughout was comfortable and pleasant and our fellow travellers were a fun-loving bunch who were determined to enjoy every minute of a break that many will have saved hard all year to pay for.
Now, for the hotel itself. Its central location; its overall cleanliness, layout and quirky nature; the clean and spacious rooms; and the quality of the food, were all as should be expected for the price paid. However, what was far below our expectations was the herding of guests into a chaotic and very poorly managed restaurant with no space between tables and people wandering around for ages looking for somewhere to sit; no plan on which tables were being served in what order, leading to frequent occasions of tables being long finished their courses before others had even began; a manageress with the attitude and customer service skills of Basil Fawlty; two fire-alarm evacuations, one at 5am in freezing cold conditions, for a mainly elderly clientele, with no explanations or apologies on either occasion; rip-off bar prices (not just a little more expensive as you always expect in a hotel...but so extortionate that very few guests were actually willing to accept being scammed, leading to a very empty bar on all three evenings}; a “Gala Dinner” on Hogmanay that was, in reality, just another standard 3 course meal as we had on the other evenings; and the most poorly organised breakfast serving that I have ever encountered, with tiny food servers for each item meaning they were continually empty, continual queues for coffee, toast and butter and, unbelievably, everyone searching amongst the chaos of uncleaned tables in search of clean cups and somewhere to sit.
Despite the many negatives, we were on this break to enjoy ourselves and, along with our tourmates, we did so. None of the failings were any fault of Urquart Tours and all entirely down to the Mercure Hotel, which left the distinct impression that they had bitten off much more than they could chew and, despite the hard graft and pleasant manner of the frontline waiting staff, they had no idea of how to pull it off successfully. As a result, we will certainly be booking for further Urquart tours, but most definitely will not be returning to the Mercure Hotel in Perth.

Just under a year since we last stayed here and what a disappointing change. The hotel is looking very very tired, the "best room" policy should really be a "worst room" policy. The shower was pathetic as soon as any warm/ was added and all pressure disappeared - they need to install power showers. The toilet seat was loose, the sealant around the bath was patchy. The room itself was in dire need of redecoration - marks on wall where furniture had been highlighted the need for this. Staff were unable, indeed, appeared unwilling to address my concerns when the problems were reported to them - a shrug of the shoulders and essentially told well that's it! The breakfast was nothing special, the bar area furniture very grubby with stained chairs. Looks like this hotel may well be on the way out!

Stayed at The Mercure.
On arrival there was a seal across the bedroom door stating that the room had been cleaned and sterilised before our arrival. That was very reassuring.
Staff all very friendly.
Only issues we had - -
1. Due to present rules, alcohol was only available in beer garden or in your room. We wanted to have a drink outside to be told the hotel had no outside licence. Don't advertise outside drinking!!!
2. With our dinner in the hotels dining room, we ordered 2 cans of soft drink. As we were staying in the hotel and we had to leave bank card details with reception, we left our purse/wallet in our room. After dinner we were told to pay for our drinks. We asked that it be added to our room bill to be told that couldn't happen! Why??? Very embarrassing. This should have been explained to us as we checked in.
Extremely poor

On first impression this hotel looks lovely. It is an old mill building and the public areas are well designed and attractive and retain some of the mill's original feattures. However, once you get past this the decor is very tired and dated. There is NO LIFT. We were touring round Scotland so our cases were heavy but we were offered no assistance. The room was very small and dark, although the bed was comfortable. The shower was over the bath, which had deep sides, and there was no handrail to assist with getting in or out.

The restaurant is over-priced. I had the roast salmon fillet which was very tasty but my husband had fish and chips, which cost £15 and comprised a few oven chips and a very small fish, more like a goujon, a piece of lemon and tartare sauce. Even a kids meal elsewhere would come with peas or beans!

The wifi didn't work, even in the public areas.

On a positive note, the staff were all very polite, helpful and welcoming and the hotel was clean. Although cleaning of the bedrooms is only on request, not daily due to Covid.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I would like to address your no lift comment, as you said we are a very old mill building with great history attached. The building is listed due to its age therefore despite trying numerous times we are not permitted to alter it to install a lift, we appreciate this isn't ideal but it is outwith our hands. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel very soon! Sincerely, Kathryn McLellan – Operations Manager

It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station to the hotel. About a quarter to half a mile depending on the route you take. Use goodle maps to keep you right. Hope this helps.

Hi no theres no where to sit and have something to eat or drink outside . Only the restaurant which you have to be quick to book as the time slots get booked up early especially breakfast time. We had 10.15 for breakfast but the next couple got 7.15 far to early I think .
