This is our second time at Champany's Inn and hopefully it won't be our last. We stayed for three nights using it as a base to attend the Edinburgh Fringe and Tattoo.
The rooms are very spacious and comfortable and the king sized beds are luxurious. The bathroom was very clean and the shower is amazing. It basically gives you a massage at the same time.
The hotel is family run and many of the staff have worked there for more than 10 years, which for me says a lot.
Unfortunately on our recent trip the famous 'Chop House' steak restaurant was closed for refurbishment, but all the fantastic steaks were all available in the main restaurant and are highly recommended.
If you want to use it as we did as means of getting into Edinburgh then the rail link is great with regular trains running every 30 minutes and a cost of just £9.20 return is very reasonable. If there is a down side to this fabulous hotel it is that it is located about 2 miles out of Linlithgow and a little too far to walk into town each morning or evening when getting too and from the station, but there are many taxi services available at reasonable rates, so don't let that put you off as it's worth it.
Breakfast is also absolutely fantastic with the biggest selection of fresh fruit I can recall seeing in many a hotel.

We had an exceptionally good meal here tonight. My steak was cooked to perfection, and my husband’s Cullen Skink and burger were also perfect. The service was spot on and the setting a delight.
I have to say, having been a waitress myself, I thought the waiting staff were outstanding. They were always alert to what was going on, providing attentive service without being intrusive. Well done.
One teeny tiny criticism. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant and, while we appreciated the cosy, candlelit atmosphere, it was a little difficult to see the menu and wine list. .

On arriving at Champay’s for an overnight stay we discovered it was full of character & staff were all friendly and welcoming. Our room was spacious with a cosy atmosphere. Great to have a table and chairs to sit at in a small bay window in our room. The room was peaceful and we had a great nights sleep with nothing to disturb us. On entering the restaurant foyer a cosy fire was glowing while the bar area was full of character and artefacts which was a pleasure to survey. Entering the round stone restaurant was delightful with subdued lighting and candlelit tables glowing. Our meal was served by attentive and friendly staff. The meal itself was delicious from starters of peri peri prawn and smoked salmon, which melted in your mouth to our mains of a ribeye and at tbone and handpicked sides. The waffles with ice cream were a wonderful finish to the meal. Waking refreshed our moning breakfast was served by Bridget, in a delightful character kitchen/diner. Freshly squeezed orange juice and various fruit condiments including raisins soaked in rum accompanied the cereal & added to our enjoyment. Various home made jams and marmalade were also offered with our toast. We also chose a small cooked breakfast which was also delicious. A great way to start our day as we headed off. Our experience at Champany’s was most enjoyable from the setting, the food, to all the staff who made us feel so welcome and who took time to make our stay a real pleasure. Can’t wait to come back.

Was excited to have an outing after the lockdown. Went for supper with our daughter and grandson. Not one of us enjoyed our expensive meal. Was shocked at how prices had risen during lockdown. Little relief through the government scheme. Steaks were poor quality and all overcooked even though two had asked for rare.
Staff were friendly and exchanged one inedible steak but we will never go bake nor recommend it to others.
Heartbreaking end to special occasion.

Used to live near Linlithgow and we often came to both the main restaurant and to the Chop House (unfortunately still closed post Covid). We would stay at Champany Inn itself for special occasions. Back in the area as tourists, we booked to stay here and it was absolutely charming. Very welcoming staff, lovely comfortable accommodation, fantastic breakfasts and wonderful dining in the historic restaurant. My only minor, minor comment would be that the bathrooms (although scrupulously clean, spacious, functional with hot powerful showers) could do with a refresh. But that is it. I recommend Champany to everybody I talk to and urge people looking at hotels in this area to give the Inn a go. You won't regret it. Often things change and are never quite as good as you remember - Champany Inn does not let you down.

We have just visited with family and our baby grandson who was on his best behaviour. Lunch was enjoyed thoroughly by everyone. They very kindly got a taxi for family returning down south and managed to get the driver to wait while they finished dessert and also asked the taxi if he would take them to Edknburgh wait while they visited family and onwards to the Waverley station.
The staff went above & beyond we would definetly return.
Compliments to the chef well done everyone.

If you love steak you must visit Champany Inn.

We went as a family of four and all of us decided to go for T bone steak.

They arrived promptly cooked to absolute perfection along with our sides which include chip shop style chips (We have been visiting this restaurant for years and to this day I wish I knew how they marinade the steak).

You must book a table here to guarantee a dining slot, this just goes to show how popular the restaurant is!

The service for our meal was excellent. The Staff could not do enough for us and were attentive from the moment we entered the restaurant.

The decor is of a certain vintage, which adds to the atmosphere however it could do with a refresh in places.

The menu is modern and varied, catering to everyone’s taste and budget.

Fantastic evening for my fiancée’s 30th birthday, alongside her parents.

The service was second to none. Staff could not do enough for you and were attentive from the moment we entered the restaurant.

The decor is of a certain vintage, which adds to the atmosphere. However, the menu is modern and varied, catering to everyone.

The food was amazing. Chicken liver pâté was superb and my steak was cooked beautifully. The drinks and pudding menu had an excellent variety.

It was an expensive meal, but well worth it for the quality of food and service. Diners have the option to spend less money by selecting soft drinks and food from the burger menu.

10/10 - I will definitely be back.

Let me say I have waited 2 years to attend the open because of the pandemic, my thoughts of what would make my bucket list trip to Scotland a success would be based on 50% playing golf, and 50% on attending St. Andrews. After the trip I will say 50% of my overall positive experience of my trip was from the welcoming and warm attention that I received from the staff at the champany and 25% from playing and 25% from attending St. Andrews. I felt more like I was staying at an old friends house, a beautiful quaint and charming home at that. From the comfortable clean rooms to breakfast and dinner waited on hand and foot my 7 day stay was perfect.
One night after returning at 11;00 from a late round of golf the restaurant was closed, the owner Ann had plates of smoked salmon, cheese, pate waiting for us. I never sat down when there wasn’t a ginger beer in front of me In 2 seconds. Every single person that I encountered from the front desk to the kitchen staff treated me like an ole friend. I don’t know that I will ever be lucky enough to get back to Scotland but I will tell you that the faces and actions of the people at champany will forever be etched in my fond memories of a trip of a lifetime for this lucky boy from the USA. Thank you all for your incredible hospitality.

Sincerest Regards,

Felix Proto

I have visited a few times throughout the last year I have never been disappointed the staff is great and so is the food. The venue itself is very cozy and inviting i am always welcomed with a smile and the service is always great as there is not a lot of waiting around the service is fast and drink refills are quite frequent over all just a very pleasant experience.

However I do have to say despite the parking is free it is slight cramped and along a narrow road so has difficult acces.
