Detailed Reviews
I stayed at the Bird Observatory for a night, and we definitely want to go back but for a few extra nights. Really cool and perfect to relax outside the city, and to top the experience, we also had the pleasure to see Sam working with birds. The perfect open air class :)

The "obs" is the perfect spot to spend a few nights on Cape Clear on a self-catering basis. At a very affordable rate (22e for members of BirdWatch Ireland, 25e for non-members), there is a choice of a single, a double/twin and a 4-bed room. Shared toilets and shower, cozy and well-equipped library with a fireplace, spacious dining room, well-equipped kitchen.
5 minute walk to the ferry to Baltimore and Schull, 5 minute walk to the shop/restaurant An Siopa Bag (yummy pizza on Pizza night), 5 minute walk to the famous Cotters pub.
Whether you are a birder or not, the obs has plenty to offer: you can potentially watch some bird-ringing, partake in a guided walk or simply get a whole lot of information about what do to and see on the island.

Stayed for several days with friends and Family. Comfortable if basic rooms. Great kitchen, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Organised bird watching walks. Convenient for the Harbour with great trips to Fastnet lighthouse, and whale watching. The shop and the pub were also close. Our stay was a real tonic

Lovely place for a birder to stay. Not if you want luxury, but such a reasonable price, and you can book for as little as one night. There are nice comfy beds, a well equipped kitchen, dining room and small lounge. The Obs is right near the harbour, but tucked round the corner from the main comings and goings, so it's a pretty quiet location, still handy for shop and pub though.
Sam the warden was extremely helpful and sorted out requests (e.g. for extra pillow) immediately.
Really enjoyed all the bird life, especially excellent views of a Great Northern Diver on the last day of the stay!

The observatory is located right on the harbour, where you have the shop and the bar just a short distance away. The building itself is very homely, and the beds were comfortable. Sam, the warden, was welcoming and friendly. I learnt some interesting points on bird watching, both from Sam and the large collection of books on the subject. The place is not ideal for very young children, as it is effectively a place of work, but otherwise highly recommended. Probably not good choice if you're planning on sitting around drinking until the early hours.
It's self-catering, so stop by the shop to buy some bits for breakfast. The nearby shop might not be open until late morning, so you won't have many breakfast options if you're planning on setting out early.
