The Holiday Inn Express Dublin City Centre is lauded for its prime location that offers guests effortless access to Dublin's key attractions and transport links. Despite an atmosphere that some find lacking in character, the hotel's spotless rooms and modern touches are widely appreciated.
Although noise can be bothersome for some guests, many enjoy a peaceful night's rest. The included breakfast and overall value are highlights, though opinions on service and additional amenities vary.

We’ve stayed at this HIX in Dublin several times over the years (4 or 5?). It is our go-to hotel when we need a night in the city and it was on top form for our last visit. ‘Twas the night before Halloween and the staff were all dressed up and in the spirit of the occasion - there was even sweets in a jar at Reception. We were warmly welcomed (thanks Emily and Teo) and our stay-requests were taken care of in advance. The room was cosy and fresh looking (not run down, well maintained) and the bathroom was spotlessly clean - with copious hot water, great pressure and good Dove toiletries. Surprisingly good actually - I washed my long, curly hair and managed to get a comb through it using the ‘Conditioning Shampoo’ - first time ever. The breakfast was, as always, outstanding. I know it’s a Health & Safety thing and that people are unaware. but a plate warmer would make all the difference to having a hot breakfast - it’s hot when it goes on the plate but struggling by the time you get to a table. We had a less than ideal sleep, but it’s personal, since our pillows (firm and soft) were approaching the end of their economic lives and were more so hard and harder (and my husband got the lumpy version). We should have checked prior to bed time and nothing could be done at 4 am (I tried) but Son on the front desk organised 2 brand new and fluffy and lovely pillows at 9 am and we had a snooze. Would highly recommend making sure you’re comfy and happy when you’ve first reached your room.
We were fortunate to be there on a night with live music in the bar which we enjoyed immensely (it was Customer Appreciation Week). We made the suggestion that the lights could be dropped from operating-theatre level to a bit closer to bar-level for a touch of atmosphere, but the music was fabulous and we really enjoyed it. The Guinness on tap went down very easily. The Barman (missed his name but wearing the Red scary mask) was great fun - such a character. We also met and chatted with Nuwan the GM and Fernanda who were great company. Other staff who were helpful during our stay were Zorem and Narawaya on the front desk - hope I haven’t missed anyone (and I didn’t catch her name but the lovely young woman from Ukraine who was housekeeping on Level 4 helped out with some extra coffee, pillows etc. Would we return? Absolutely. It’s a good spot to base yourself for a visit to Dublin and the breakfast sets you up for the day. Easy walk to south side attractions as well.

A great stay. Functional hotel on O'Connell Street. Great spot. Staff excellent. As a wheelchair user I was worried when the small lift, in reception, was out of order. The staff used a ramp to help and had the lift mended within 24 hours. I would like to thank the duty manager and, a special mention to, Andrea in the breakfast area. She was extremely helpful with my breakfast needs. An excellent member of staff.

Holiday Inn Express (HIE) Dublin City Centre provided excellent “service” to us during our 2 night stay. We’d also point out that such “service” is not that common. On our arrival at the HIE at 7:15AM (our flight landed at 6:20AM and yes… we were the only flight down and breezed through Passport Control and luggage collection and straight into a taxi); staff were efficient, helpful and personable; and while our room wasn’t ready, we were invited to enjoy a complimentary buffet breakfast, prior to the commencement of our walk around Dublin. They said they’d text us when the room was ready and having found out how long we had been travelling they said they would put a priority service on the room. After sampling some very enjoyable pastries and a restorative coffee, we set out on our walk; and at about 9:45AM we received notification advising us our room was now available. Since check in time is normally 3:00PM, being able to access our room and a shower, etc so early in the day was very welcome. Our room (#529) was very clean, comfortable and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. We found this HIE to be very clean, functional, and ideal as a city centre accommodation. The staff were very helpful and our 2 night stay was excellent. Others, in reviewing HIE Dublin have complained of noise from a bar close by. We cannot comment on this as we heard no noise and slept well each night. In concluding this review, we thank each person at the HIE Dublin we interacted with, especially “Son”, who was very helpful and knowledgeable. Equally each staff member helped to make our stay very enjoyable, but unfortunately we don’t recall their names.

The best thing about this hotel is without a doubt the location, steps from the bus station that comes and goes daily from the Airport, steps from the Spire, a kind of 120 meter high needle that is the point from where they depart. free walking tours. Furthermore, the area is very quiet and on foot you can reach the center and places like Temple Bar, Trinity College or the Castle and the Cathedral in just 10 or 15 minutes, given that the downtown areas are full of extremely noisy bars, staying in This hotel allows you to rest well at night while being steps from everything. Perhaps the weakest point of the hotel is the breakfast, it is not bad but it is missing things, sausages, bacon, fruits, yogurt and some sweet things plus infusions in what they serve daily, it is not bad but there are no cheeses or cold cuts. and the breakfast area can be small if the hotel is full. Another favorable point is that there are always people at reception who speak Spanish. As for the rooms, they are quite comfortable, as are the beds, but they do not have a refrigerator or minibar. In short, it is a highly recommended hotel to stay for two or three nights only.

We stayed at the property for two nights. My partner booked two rooms for a family trip, and reception kindly assisted our family prior to our arrival.
Our first step into the property showed us the safety they have in a busy street such as O'Connell Street; the door remains closed and can only be opened under vigilance or with a key card.
At reception, Julieta received us in a friendly and professional manner, giving us relevant information about the area and places to visit. She went the extra mile by communicating effectively with the rest of the team to accommodate our requests.
As we arrived a bit late, and it's uncommon for pubs in Dublin to serve food after 21:00, the team managed to provide convenient and delicious food, thank you to Jezi. He is a really good asset for the hotel and a great team member, friendly and professional, always happy to help. He gives a nice human touch to the service.
We ordered a Pizza Margherita (the best I have tasted in a hotel), chicken wings (nice too), and fried potato wedges, all accompanied by pints of Guinness.
The next morning, we had breakfast. They seemed to be organised and we didn't have to queue. We had paid prior to arrival, so we could simply grab a seat and enjoy our breakfast. The quality of the products was fresh and above average. I missed non-dairy milk, but to be honest, I didn't ask, so I'm not sure if they have it. Full English breakfast with plenty of options, three coffee machines, and efficient and friendly staff providing excellent service.
We didn't have the chance to meet more staff members by name, but all were friendly, helpful, and professional.
As for the building, it looks pretty new, or at least refurbished; it's clean, quiet, and well connected with public transport options, and close to the city center within walking distance. It's definitely a place to recommend.

The location is incredible and everything you’d want to see is easily accessible by foot which is a huge bonus. The included breakfast was delicious although it does get very busy and cramped. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cons are that the beds/pillows are not comfortable, there is no fridge in the room, and it can get pretty loud since there is a night club below in the same building. That aspect isn’t the hotel’s fault but just know that you may need to wear ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper.

Dear Julia, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! We're thrilled you appreciated our central location, friendly staff, and delicious breakfast. It's great to know our accessibility to attractions enhanced your stay. We apologize for the aspects of your experience that were less comfortable. While we don’t have fridges in our rooms, we do have mini-fridges available for medical needs upon request, subject to availability. First let me say the staff is amazing an friendly. Location is good, walking distance to lots. But from being use to hotels here. 1.) There is no alarm clock so we had to make sure we logged on to wifi so we could set an alarm with correct time. 2.) No where to unpack so being there a week an living out of a suitcase on the floor, no where to even get it out of the way. 3.) No outlet in bathroom so for me using curing iron an got ready with all my stuff on only table in room. 4.) Location of our room sucked an wish we had been told, we were right above the outdoor bar next door, music pumping an could see the flashing of the large big screen, an just was loud until they closed. 5.) Was supposed to have cheaper parking but no one told us how to do that. But again staff was amazing an very friendly. We stayed Nov 4th- 9th. Also hotel has breakfast but wanted other food. During week restaurants open at 10am for breakfast.

We're glad you enjoyed our central location and appreciate you sharing the challenges you faced during your stay. This hotel is perfectly placed to see the sights of Dublin and because there are several bus and a tram route's on O'Connell street just outside with easy access to the airport and beyond, it's ideal.
Breakfast was included in the price and was great, you just need to pick your time as it can be very busy at peak times but 7.30am to 10.30am helps.
The only thing that we felt was a bit unjust was as an IHG member I expected to amass points for each night stay but that is only if we booked direct with the hotel. Points are not awarded if you book via a third party. Come on IHG we are still staying the 4 nights so how mean is that?
That said we had a great stay but beware of the points issue if you are a member.

Dear chippy10, Thank you for your detailed review! I’m thrilled that you enjoyed your four-night stay and found our location ideal for exploring Dublin. It’s great to hear you appreciated our breakfast times and offerings as well. I understand your frustration regarding the IHG points policy. While bookings made through third parties do not typically accrue points, I appreciate your feedback and will pass it along to IHG management to review. Your loyalty is important to us, and we want to ensure a rewarding experience for all our members. Thank you again for your understanding, and I hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon. Extremely welcoming staff, very smiling and always happy to answer your questions. The hotel is extremely clean, as are the rooms! The bedding is impeccable. Quality towel, shower gel, shampoo and soap provided. The only thing missing is a brush in the toilets which can always be useful for cleaning before departure. There is a kettle available with cups, sweets, coffee and chocolate powder which is great. The breakfast is extremely generous and very typical. The hotel is very well soundproofed and above all very well located. It is close to many tourist places and also close to any transport. I very rarely write reviews but when it is very positive it must be said! I recommend this hotel to everyone and will happily return! Thanks to Anabel and another lady who welcomed us, a brunette with black hair (I'm not the first name) for their kindness and friendliness! ;)

I travelled 3 hours from Co. Mayo to go to the Take That concert tonight with my wife and we had booked this hotel as we had stayed here before and also stayed in the same in Salford, Manchester last month. We were met on the reception by a non smiling grumpy lady and when we said that we had booked a room for tonight she demanded an ID, driving licence or passport. Never ever heard of that before, but luckily my wife had her driving licence with her. We got checked in, paid, and was given only 1 key card. We went up to the room, which is adequate, and decided to bring up a drink from the bar. BUT, to get back upstairs to the room, I had to bring the key card, so my wife had no lights or electricity to charge her phone until I came back with the drinks. So, I went to reception and asked the frosty stuck up lady for a 2nd key card and asked if the bar was open. She reluctantly gave me another key card and said that yes, the bar was open. I asked for a pint of Guinness and a glass of wine, so the barmaid started to pull a pint of Guinness 00, and I said, no, a pint of real Guinness please, but she said that there was none. I said, we are in Dublin, the Guinness factory is 10 minutes walk away and you are trying to tell me that there is no Guinness in a hotel in the city centre of Dublin? The frosty lady came over and asked me what the problem was, and I explained, and she informed me that Guinness is very popular and they ran out and don't have any and won't have any. So I went upstairs to my wife, with no drink and explained the unbelievable situation to her. We both work really hard, I'm a chef and my wife is a carer, and when we spend money traveling to Dublin for a concert, pay for a hotel etc, we expect to be treated nicely and be able to get a drink at the bar. I'm 58 , I'm a very chilled person, but my first impression of the service and facilities in the hotel are shocking. So, I looked at getting a room elsewhere and went down to Mrs Frosty in reception to look for a full refund. Frosty wasn't there, so I spoke to a young friendly lady, who introduced me to the manager. I relayed my thoughts to him, and in a smug way, he said, and I quote " So you want to leave the hotel and get a full refund because we don't have any Guinness? I said Yes, as your receptionist told me that you had run out and weren't getting it. He said, no, we have Guinness You do? I said? Yes,but not right now but we will definitely have it on tap later. I said, so just to make it clear, you 100% will have Guinness later and he assured me that he would. "You can have as many pints of Guinness as you want later" It's later There's no Guinness on tap It's 5pm I'm just so disappointed, I know, 1st world problems We don't get out much and expected to be looked after properly, do you think I am being unreasonable? We will NEVER go back to any Holiday Inn express or normal holiday inn again.

Response from HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS DUBLIN, Owner at Holiday Inn Express Dublin City Centre, an IHG hotel
Responded Apr 23, 2024
Dear Markchefmayo Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I want to express my sincerest apologies for the disappointments you encountered during your recent stay with us. It is disheartening to hear that we failed to meet your expectations, particularly regarding the availability of Guinness, and the overall service quality. This is certainly not the standard we strive to uphold, and your feedback highlights areas for improvement. We understand how such experiences can diminish the enjoyment of your visit, especially when looking forward to relishing the local culture. The absence of Guinness, given its iconic status in Dublin, the unwelcoming service, and the subsequent miscommunication you experienced are not reflective of the high-quality service we aim to provide. Hospitality is at the core of what we do, and it is clear we missed the mark in extending the warmth and responsiveness you deserved. Please know that your comments have been taken seriously and will be addressed with my team to ensure such oversights and shortcomings in our service delivery do not occur in the future. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your review further and invite you to reach out to me directly and I can assure you that we can find a solution. I look forward to the possibility of speaking with you and working towards earning your trust and confidence in my hotel once more. Kind Regards Nuwan Jayasena General Manager
