Buswells Hotel stands out for its excellent location, a stone's throw away from Dublin's key attractions, which has garnered frequent praise from visitors. The establishment is celebrated for its cleanliness and the unique, traditional charm that permeates its atmosphere. Guests have expressed satisfaction with the attentive staff and cozy rooms, although some have suggested that the service could be more efficient, especially regarding complaint resolution.
While the amenities generally meet expectations, the fitness area and certain overpriced features have room for enhancement. Despite mixed reviews on room quality and value, the hotel's old-world decor and inviting ambiance continue to charm guests.

Hotel's Favourite
Enjoyed our stay very much. Very central , affordable hotel in the centre of Dublin , within easy walking distance of many attractions. It was our first stay and apart from one minor blip which was dealt with excellently ,by Pablo , everything went well . Lovely cooked breakfast and wonderful staff. Thanks to the bar staff , especially Michael and Juan who were both very good. We would definitely return and thanks again for all your help , Pablo.

We stayed at Buswells for 5 nights as part of a vacation tour of Ireland. The location is on a quiet street (south of the river) within easy walking distance of many museums, attractions, and restaurants/bars. (Examples: Museum of Archeology, Dublin Castle, Guinness, Museum of Natural History, Trinity College w/ Book of Kells, Famine Exhibition, shopping mall, many others - within 10 minutes or less walking distance). We took the bus from the Dublin airport and there was a drop-off just 100 feet or so around the corner from Buswells. This is a traditional and elegant hotel with a B&B feel, well maintained and staffed with friendly employees in every contact we had, whether front desk, housekeeping, or restaurant/bar. Our room was a reasonable, comfortable size and the bathroom was clean and had a great tub/shower with a rain shower head. Due to the moderate temperatures in Ireland, there was no A/C but running a fan (provided in the room) made it comfortable when needed. The morning breakfast service included a continental breakfast along with ordering fresh hot items such as omelets or "Irish" breakfast. The breakfasts were very satisfying and in a relaxing & clean restaurant setting. We also ate in the bar restaurant on two evenings, such as seafood chowder or fish & chips, and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. I have to give positive credit to Dilek who: 1) giggled over my pronunciation of "Smithwicks" (beer) and in a very friendly way coached me on the Irish pronunciation; and 2) there was a wedding group there with a younger boy who was clearly tired of being the only non-adult, and Dilek did a great job interacting with him. Overall, Buswells was a great place to stay and I would certainly stay there again if we again visit Dublin.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
I've recommended Buswells to many friends, and they've all loved it. The rooms are immaculate; the bar/restaurant serves traditional Irish food and is almost always full of guests, local people, TDs, friends of all ages, genders, and nationalities meeting there. This hotel is the opposite of a chain hotel, because in architecture and decor it is old-fashioned (18th, 19th, and 20th centuries) and charmingly eccentric: it is one of a kind. But the best thing about Buswells is the staff: they are polite, friendly, and helpful. If you have a question or a complaint, just let one of the staff know, and they will take care of whatever the problem is. The antique clock on the mantel (in the picture to the left of this screen) tells the time but chimes erratically, sometimes 36 minutes after the hour and sometimes 42 minutes. If you want a chime at an exact time, use your iPhone.

Located near the centre of Dublin in a Georgian building the place is convenient. But it is tired, hardy DDA compliant there are huge challenges for mobility impaired people. And in the near 30 degree heat of the Indian summer of 2023 they have utterly failed. The rooms are in the high 20s in temperature but they provide a single tiny plastic fan and when asking on reception for additional cooling they say they have run out. A £10 Argos fan was never going to cut it but total disinterest in guests who cannot sleep due to near 30 degree room temperatures at night left me grasping,. Next time I am going to a proper hotel who either have air conditioning or who provide decent fans that might cool each of the two single beds they forced us into. At nearly 300 euros a night this makes a Premier Inn in London at £90 per night look like five star luxury.
Should hotels like this still exist? I am not sure. I am trying to be restrained but the pure rubbishness of this place deserves a fuller critique

Dear timm57, Thank you for your time taken to review your most recent stay with us here at Buswells Hotel. I was delighted to read that you found our location just right for you. During your stay with us last week, it was exceptionally warm, an Indian summer as you referred to it, and understandably it can be stuffy in guest rooms. Whilst we do have a small fan in each room, as we were full on the night, we were unable to source a second fan from another room for you. You were however offered and accepted a fan from our reception desk but failed to mention this in your review. Having previously stayed with us in July this year you will know that we do not have air conditioning in any of our guest rooms. You comment that we are hardy DDA compliant is odd! The hotel is compliant and provides access for persons with mobility difficulties including wheelchair users. I am unsure why you included this comment in your review other than to embellish your review. We believe the team here appreciated your issue and did all that was possible to plicate you. Fair reviews that are constructive are welcomed even if critical. Regards, Paul Gallagher.

Myself & my friend Decided to have a drink & some light bits while on an overnight in our capital.
Popped into Buswells Bar.
There was 3 choices of sharing baskets on the menu- sausage, chicken strips or scampi. Ranging from 14€.
We asked waiter how many strips of chicken was in basket, he said ‘a few’ at €14.50 we ordered the chicken basket. Surprise surprise a ceramic bowl arrived with 3 chicken pieces ( a bit bigger than a birdseye chicken dipper) & a large portion of chips underneath.I expressed my disappointment to the waiter about 3 pieces of chicken for 2 people , after all these are ‘shared’ baskets.i asked for another 1 or 2, he went off to ask Chef?
Came back with following message ‘ the chef is very strick’ & if we wanted another gougon/dipper we would have to pay extra!! I dont know where this chef did his maths exam as 3 doesn’t divide equally between 2.
Considering a portion of chips is 5.50, so each chicken gougon/dipper cost €3 each.
I wonder do you get 3 sausages in the sausage basket & they probably work out at €2.50 per sausage. Total Rip Off. waiter was lovely but clearly they dont know how to deal with a complaint & a Strict Chef who cant do Division

Good Evening corrymorec, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback of your recent visit to Buswells Bar. We pride ourselves on our Product and Service offering but it appears that we have missed the mark on this occasion. I apologise that we disappointed you but I can assure you this is not Buswells standard. The food choices you mentioned are in fact 'individual' portions and not on the menu as 'sharing baskets'. However, this appears that this was not communicated from our end. I would be delighted if you give us a chance to redeem ourselves and show you that Buswells can do much better. Please contact me directly when you are planning your next trip to Dublin. Judith.timmins@buswells.ie I hope to see you in the not too distant future! Kind regards, Judith Timmins Deputy General Manager

The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the staff were especially wonderful. Front desk staff members helped with storing our bags while we went sightseeing, and reservations staff made sure that my mother with limited mobility had a room next to the lift (no stairs). They also gave us feather-free pillows at our request because we have allergies. We are very grateful!
The location is perfect. It is across the street from the National Museum (Archaeology), one of our favorite sites to visit, and it’s convenient to Trinity College (Book of Kells) and a number of restaurants.
The only suggestion for American guests would be to offer a top sheet on the beds, as the comforter can get a bit hot during the summer, there is no air conditioning, and there can be some minor street sound when opening windows (not especially loud, but could impact light sleepers).
Otherwise it was a wonderful stay. We would recommend it and stay again.

Whilst the hotel was clean and tidy, We felt that the breakfast display was some what underwhelming, The continental was limited, The cold meat selection looked very sparce on both days and the fresh fruit was limited. The full Irish breakfast was quite small. could have been larger perhaps, only 30 baked Beans in a small ramakin, 1 Sausage and 1 Rasher of Bacon, 1 small egg and a few mushrooms.
Hospitality, I would have expected more interaction with the waiting staff at breakfast, they were polite enough, but we didn't get that warm welcome experience we were expecting. Bar staff and reception staff were welcoming though and the one meal we had in the bar was nice and value for money. As we were visiting Ireland for the first time it would have been nice to have the Irish conversations we were looking forward too, However there appeared to be a lot of staff with Irish/English being their second languarge.
There was a plus point on our departure day a very nice Irish lady who was cleaning the front of the hotel interacted with us pointing out the slip hazard and appeared very genuine, she wished us a fond farewell. Both my wife and myself said at the time we wish we had seen more of this during our stay. Thank you to the lady from housekeeping didn't get her name sorry. Well done!

Stayed here recently for two nights B&B and one evening meal. The hotel has a lovely old world charm about it. Food was excellent and service good. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. The location is a great base for all attractions. We parked in nearby Q park and took the ticket to reception when checking out, and they added a discount to the ticket so it cost us €18 per day. Be warned that you really don't need a car in this Dublin location it's more of a liability as the buses and Luas trams are nearby. We had a room at the front on a higher floor which was quiet.

If you are able to book off peak and stay at least 3 nights and select the breakfast option, it’s an incredible value.
The location is fantastic…walking distance to many of Dublin’s attractions, pubs and restaurants.
The hotel has an old charm and everything is updated and very well appointed. The breakfast is excellent featuring cold and hot options…top notch.
Best of all is the staff…all going above & beyond. Would certainly return if coming again to Dublin.

We are so glad we stayed at Buswells to experience Irish hospitality right in the center of Dublin. Our room on the front overlooked a quiet street. Cross ventilation with open windows kept us cool at night with temps in the 50's. Our room was recently renovated with new tile and a spacious bath/shower. We had plenty of storage space in the closet and dressers. The quiet private breakfast rooms with a full Irish breakfast buffet are separate from the full service restaurant and bar. Paddy, the concierge, made us feel welcome every day with his cheerful demeanor and helpful suggestions on things to do. We took the train to Houth with his encouragement to take advantage of the good weather day, and we had the best day ever hiking the cliffs on the coast and enjoying the fresh seafood at the restaurants. I loved staying in a smaller boutique hotel. They have a lift, but we used the stairs. It is across the street from the Ireland Museum of Archaeology and a couple of blocks from Trinity College one way and a block the other way from St. Stephen's Green. We were in the middle of the museums and restaurants, but *not* within earshot of the night activity along busy Grafton Street. Seagulls nested outside one window, where I watched two babies nestle together as they were not yet able to fly off the roof. So now every time I hear a seagull, I will think of Dublin! (Thankfully the birds went to sleep at night and didn't keep us awake.) Buswells was not a cookie cutter chain hotel with its antique light fixtures, beautiful decorative plaster walls, meandering staircases, and warm Irish hospitality from the housekeepers, waitresses and the front desk receptionist. We had to leave our room key with the front desk each time we went out as the locks were keyed by one key which worked fine. There was always someone available at the front desk. We came back after 11 PM one night, and the doorman promptly let us in the locked front door. Once we had dinner at Buswells instead of going out again, and it was so nice not to have to look further for a place to eat. Apparently it is a popular spot for afternoon tea or evening drinks with the locals, because it was always fairly busy during meal times. The patrons were usually dressed in business attire. We never heard any noise from the restaurant in our room. We would definitely return.

Yes it's as safe as a major city can be. I was at an event over 5 days walking back to Buswells from across the river between 9pm and 11pm & had no trouble.
Buswells has history, it is not a steel and glass chic hotel. It also has character throughout. That is why I enjoy this hotel. At the opposite extreme, I was there this February and it was pretty cold during our stay. The heat was not great, but really was not why I selected to stay at Buswells. Don't worry about AC. enjoy the wonderful building.
I believe there is parking garage around the corner that can be provided by the hotel. Not sure if there is a fee or not.
Hi GailS2037
I am sorry but we cannot guarantee checkin at 11am on Sunday. We are currently fully booked on Saturday night and these guests have until 11.30am to check out.
It is possible for the hotel to store your luggage until rooms are available.
We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday.
I’d say three and a half to four hours. If you are returning to Dublin, there are day trips from Dublin to the cliffs. Riding the bus and getting a tour might be much more pleasant than driving. If you’re looking for a great place to stay near the cliffs, consider the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis. That town is well worth a visit.
