It's our first visit to Ireland, but if everyone is as friendly as they are at the Clayton, Ballsbridge hotel, it will not be our last. Thank you Gina, for all the helpful information and the welcoming smile. It was a true pleasure meeting you. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. You are truly a breath of fresh air.

Appalling receptionist and Manager. The Trust that run this hotel need to start reading the hundreds of negative reviews and change the management immediately. Get someone in that knows how to run a hotel and start with reception. Stay anywhere else if you use Booking.com to book your accommodation. Otherwise the “Receptionist told me to expect a bad room.

I stayed three nights on a business trip and was more than happy with my room and the hotel. Slept well, wi/fi had strong signal and it was close to my meeting venue. Good, hot breakfast buffet, kept me going until lunch. I would recommend this hotel.

Stayed here with my husband. This is our fourth time staying here a special thanks to Aoife at reservations who was very helpful. The breakfast was very good, now that the sausages were well cooked. Lovely rooms.

we have just got back from a four day stay at what should have been a good hotel, given the four star rating and the price. Unfortunately this was not the case. Not once during our stay was the room cleaned (or even the bin emptied) the excuse given was COVID (what else). Although they were not cleaning the room, they did not think to ensure that there was sufficient towels and tea making facilities for the whole stay (2 teabags, 2 paper cups and 3 little post of milk was all that was left) - this despite the room having a double and single bed (so presumably for 3 people) The guest services are now available via an app - and yet even though I requested clean towels and replenishments they did not arrive. I asked at reception - and again nothing happened. On day 3 the cleaner actually parked her cart outside our door from 09 - 1700 and yet we still didn't get our room cleaned! On the plus side the beds were very comfortable, and the breakfasts were fresh and filling. Staff were polite and friendly (even if they couldn't actually do anything) Good location, not far from a couple of bars and restaurants. Quick bus service int Dublin town centre, and a short drive from the coast. Just a shame the service was not up to what you'd expect.

Stayed here in march after seeing a concert in 3arena. Hotel is situated just outside dublin. Not many shops or restaurants surrounding it. The desk staff are very polite on arrival and helpful. Place is very clean. Room is quite large and bathroom is spotless bit dated but hot shower. Windows aren't up to standard so u can hear echoes of the traffic during the night. Bed is bouncy and firm and pillows are feathered. Had a 3/5 sleep. Breakfast buffet is the highlight. Full Irish with great coffee. Great quality food and very filling. Defo would stay again. Ps also the car park is very secure.

My other half booked this hotel for St Patrick's day. So we stayed 2 nights 16-18th March. Because of St Patrick's, the price was much higher than usual and we thought this was fair enough as we had booked it only 2 months earlier. Now, because of COVID19, we unfortunately couldn't enjoy much of the event because all the pubs and most restaurants were closed as well as the museum we were planning to visit. Obviously this was not the hotel's fault, however when we asked reception what was open/closed they seemed to not really have a clue about what was going on. As well as this, because there was nothing open in the centre on the 17th, we decided to go back to the hotel thinking we could at least get an alcoholic drink there. But the bartender told us we could only order a drink if we ordered a meal but all the meals were £10+ and we were not hungry. They said this was due to government shut down but it made no sense to us as what was the difference between buying a drink on it's own or buying it with a meal? So we then walked around the local area and settled for a dinner of snacks and some gin from tesco Express which we enjoyed in our room. But it wasnt exactly the experience we were expecting at all. We did actually call the hotel a week before we were due to fly to Dublin to ask if they recommended we still go or cancel it. They said they would still be open and welcome us. So to avoid a cancellation fee, we decided to still go. Despite the unfortunate events and us not really being able to enjoy st patricks to its fullest, the hotel gave us absolutely no compensation. Couldn't even purchase a drink never mind a free drink. No vouchers or anything. We felt like we had been taken for mugs paying all this money for nothing really. Felt they just told us to go so they wouldn't lose our money. Plus points: the bed was comfortable and the decor had character, the shower was ok as well. However, the room was very hot we had to leave the window open all day when we went out and it didn't seem to be 100% clean either as there was dust on the furniture. We had stayed in a Jurys inn in Brighton a month before which was very close to the centre and cheaper and this was a lot cleaner and they even gave us free chocolate. Which goes to show paying more isnt always everything. Overall we do plan to go back to dublin but will be planning to stay somewhere much nearer the centre.

Response from Callum McBreen, General Manager at Ballsbridge Hotel
Responded May 2, 2020
Dear Rawrsie97x, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay in our hotel. It is unfortunate to read that your stay wasn't to the standard which you had hoped for. During the current climate the hotel has had to adapt Government requirements, requirements which have been chopped and changed on a daily, even hourly, basis. The team here at Ballsbridge hotel have worked extremely hard to ensure that the we continue to deliver a high level of customer service during these difficult, confusing and conflicting times. I regret to hear that you did not receive the compensation you had hoped for from the hotel for the closure of all pubs nationwide. I would kindly ask that you take into consideration that this was beyond our control and we were abiding by the legal instructions provided by the Government, which was to only sell alcohol to residents of the hotel with the consumption of food. This sadly did not allow for complimentary drinks to ease the inconvenience of the pandemic restrictions. I am sorry to hear that you that you are planning to stay somewhere else on your next visit to Dublin, I hope that you may reconsider and return to our property and have the opportunity to experience an authentic Ballsbridge Hotel experience. I hope that you stay healthy and safe during these wild times. Kind regards, Ciara Smyth Front Office Manager

The Ballsbridge hotel is a 4 star hotel situated in the area from which its name is derived. It is close to Lansdowne road and RDS and ten minutes’ walk to Trinity College and St Stephens green. It has car parking which is an attraction in Dublin. Car parking is €12 per day and you can leave your car if you want to sightsee on checking out. Remember to go back to reception before you leave the car park as they have to activate your car park card. Checking in was straightforward and the room was quite large and nicely finished. Everything was clean and staff professional and friendly. This would be a good base for a business trip. Prices in Dublin are expensive so price point cannot play a part in a review. My view is that a similar hotel in London would be cheaper but I guess there are ranges of prices so it’s all relative. We were B&B and the breakfast next morning was buffet style (traditional Irish) and good. Note that if you want fried eggs you can request these from the waiter. I decided not to take the chance on waiting so it was scrambled eggs for me.
