We were booked in the Fairview's townhouse but upon check-in we were told the townhouses were having electricity problems and they had to move us to the main building. That was perfectly fine with us. The room we were put in was the nicest we...More
We were traveling with a group of 7 during March 2013 and stayed at the Fairview for one night. Great location and price. The rooms were clean, comfortable and the staff was very friendly.
Would highly recommend the Fairview.
My husband and myself stayed here this weekend and it was a very enjoyable experience. The breakfast was very good and there was lots of it, the room we stayed in was so big and clean and the staff went out of their way to...More
This guesthouse/hotel lacks the personal touch of so many good Irish B&Bs, and the warm Irish welcome, but it is good value and centrally located so you can walk to town. Our room was very clean, but a bit stuffy, neutral decor, quiet despite being...More

Anyone else been robbed blind by this place when you've had to cancel a booking without giving 72 hours notice???? I gave them 48 hours, and explained the personal circumstances which prevented me from cancelling sooner. They (eventually) agreed to 'graciously' refund half of what they effectively stole as a gesture of 'goodwill'. Still waiting for them to do that 2 months later!! Anyone thinking of booking a room at this place, DON'T DO IT!!! Bunch of robbing b*******!!!!!! They've ignored all my attempts to contact them to try and resolve this. Anyone out there with a legal background who can offer advice as to what to do next?? HELP!

Thanks Liam. You're absolutely right- I had no joy in getting the refund I was legally entitled to. The Irish Hotels Federations Legal Guide states a hotel may charge a guest when cancelling a reservation. However, it goes on to qualify this by saying there is no industry standard regarding cancellations, but the charges ‘must be reasonable and proportionate to the loss likely to be suffered by the hotel due to the cancellation.’ There can be no justification to charge me in full when 1) I was able to offer 48 hours notice prior to cancelling 2) the hotel was not fully booked on the date in question 3) as soon as I realised the charge had been made I provided a full and frank account of the personal circumstances which prevented me from cancelling sooner. The hotel manager sent me a number of rude and threatening emails telling me to 'call off' my action. In the end the whole think made me feel sick with stress, I can't afford to write off such a substantial sum of money but they left me with no alternative for the sake of my well being. I really have no idea how the hotel has any good reviews and can only assume the unscrupulous manager has simply fabricated them.
