Well located for city centre, football and train station. Very much a 3 star hotel so no frills. Room was OK but furniture very tired and probably should be renewed. Bathroom looked OK but the shower was never hot, even though the basin tap was scalding. This hotel is ok as a one nighter, but not sure I would want to stay longer.
The Stuart no longer offers free or paid parking, instead they have turned their car park into an NCP run space, it’s a strange move by the owners as it close to the station it could cause guest parking issues. It’s cheap at the moment at just under £5 for 24 hours, but it’s a bit of a pain if you don’t have the NCP app, basically you have to have it, several quests couldn’t get it to work properly
Stayed here for work and the experience was awful, the room had small flies in, had a smell and the cleanliness was poor, dirty skirting boards, furniture was chipped and carpet had stains in. The shower had grime in shower seals, the hotel rooms needs updating and replenishing new carpets, I did not dare look under bed!!! one night a couple were slamming and arguing from 3am onwards and nothing done about them. The restaurant was closed on an evening due to repair which was not highlighted on booking, breakfast was so poor, coffee was cold and tasted awful, standard cereals and the fruit was going off, bananas were black!!! I would not recommend this hotel as it isn't even basic standard, all show from reception, rooms outdated, old, poor cleaning standard went out and bought fly spray, disinfectant wipes and disinfectant air freshener.…
Visited while going to Derby for work. Room was spacious, comfy bed, good tv signal, clean Breakfast was buffet and covered all usual foods eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal etc. Parking was behind the hotel, bit narrow drive but plenty of spaces.
Stayed for one night on a Business Trip arrived late in the Evening, after been asked to pay for my room after it had been pre-paid through booking agent and sorting that out, found I couldn’t lock the first room I was given from the outside, the door would just not shut. Given an alternative room when I went back to reception and explained. Room was cold but probably because they didn’t expect it occupied that night. Looked for the Radiator and found it under the Curtain, once switched on the room warmed up quickly. Also noticed an Air Conditioning Unit, tried not to look to closely as there seemed to be years’ worth of dust and other foreign matter wedged in it. Opened the Curtains as I am a person who cannot sleep in total darkness, could barely see out of the downstairs window due to the muck on the outside, which was confirmed the next morning when it got light. Bathroom was tiny and cold had a quick shower on the night and again on the morning but didn’t linger too long. Did venture to the Bar but turned back when I saw a sign on the Stella saying out of Order and no sign of any Bar Staff. Front of House looked welcoming, but behind the scenes the corridors looked tired, and the room gave me an uncomfortable feeling and didn’t feel as if I had slept at all. On the Plus side surprised how good the Breakfast was which was self-service, food hot and good quality, toaster could have been quicker, but hey waiting for toast to toast is like waiting for Paint to dry. Carpark tucked around the back, must do a QR Code to check in, which didn’t work for me, so receptionist took my Car Reg. In the morning had to dodge a Crane Set up lifting Steelwork, which workmen didn’t seem phased about. As a Dimond Select Member who has stayed in Best Western for the last 20 Months I was pleased to be returning the next night to my regular Hotel in Scotland, which is a totally different standard. A shame as my trip was also a recognisance on the Stuart Hotel to see if it would be suitable for myself and several of my colleagues for a three-month project we have coming up in Derby in the New Year. We may be workers away from home, but we want somewhere to feel at home during our stay and unfortunately the Stuart Hotel did not tick the boxes for me. …
Stopped here for 1 night with Gardiners Coach Holidays. Room was very clean, warm and comfortable. When we arrived we queued for quite a while before we received our keys as everyone had to complete a form with choices for dinner. The method of actually serving the dinner was not good, in my opinion. A member of staff would come into the dining room with two plates of food and call the room number (roughly in numerical order) which meant by the time I got mine, others beside me had already finished theirs and some main courses were cold. I had sticky toffee pudding and custard for afters and it was very nice. The breakfast was a buffet with plenty of cold and hot choices and was very good. The staff were very pleasant and eager to help if needed. There was no lift so we had to climb two flights of stairs, which was ok for us as we only had an overnight case but it might have been more difficult with bigger cases. On checking out, again, we were made to queue at reception until we handed our keys in, however, whilst queuing an efficient member of staff came along the line and collected our keys which meant we could leave straight away. ALL the staff worked hard and made our stay as pleasant as possible, I would stay here again.…
Well all I can say really is I think they need new cleaners! Our room was very dirty and dusty! We didn’t complain because I don’t think changing rooms would have made a difference. The hallways were very dusty as well. The reception area looked clean enough and so did the restaurant and bar. I cleaned the room myself. Hopefully the cleaners could see the difference and take note! We had afternoon tea booked and well… we didn’t eat it. All the cakes were from the freezer and u could taste it. Best bit was the coffee! The hotel was close to the town and bus station which was the best bit.
Breakfast - cold plates, cold food and a freezing dining area I left early as my hands were freezing and I was wishing I'd gone to breakfast wearing an outdoor coat. Staff were OK but the chafing ser ers were not hot enough. Coffee was from a flask, toaster wasn't plugged in and black pudding was rock solid. Sorry guys but this was not good.
Went here for one night with an Angela's coach holiday. Room was okay but not sure why there was a camp bed in there which we had to fold up. Comfortable, clean bed. Bathroom okay, a little small but clean with plenty of white towels. Excellent breakfast with lots of choice Full English or continental. Good bar with good choice of beer. Only thing that let the hotel was the evening meal . Not much choice only fish and chips or burger and wedges for main course. Also it seemed to take forever to be cooked, which was disappointing, considering we'd already maid our choices on arrival. We were only there for one night and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location is ideal for visiting Derby city centre shame the hotel is way passed its ‘Best’ Western!! Booking on line was a disaster- tried ringing reception direct to amend my booking, they put the phone down 3 times and never called back as promised….. hotel looks rough from the outside especially round the back, see this when you park your car! Didn’t get a warm welcome, room upstairs and corridors which were tired, worn out and scruffy. Not sure if all of the hotel is the same. So disappointed on opening the door- room was small with old large furniture crammed in. Dark wood which was sticky on all the surfaces. Lots of cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, skirting boards behind the door filthy, curtains had layer of dust along the top and nets were ripped and old. Bathroom had mould along the bath. Carpet was thread bare in large patch near the bed. Dividing wall very thin could hear man next door in the bath. I did leave a review card at reception but that’s probably in the bin. It’s a shame such a great location hotel is let down by lack of investment- it would take a lot of money to put right. Pity we won’t stay there again.…
