The Georgian House Hotel is a lovely old building, I've stayed here during the summer, it wasn't the cleanest or most comfortable place to stay, but it was ok and handy for the town, however this time we were in room 6 the mattresses were plastic covered and when sat on squashed to nothing making the very uncomfortable, there were 2 pillows both around 2 inches thick, the quilt was the same, the room itself was heated by a Luke warm radiator, situated by the door , it was freezing and we both had to wear coats when sat in the room, the radiator went off at 11 pm, we did complain and one of the very apologetic staff brought us an extra pillow, the heating remained the same, we did ask for a heater but we're told there wasn't one available, again we had to dress to go to bed, I have to say the staff were lovely and helpful , my partner and I won't be staying there again and wouldn't recommend anyone else stay…
Very clean, friendly and polite staff cannot do enough for you, lovely room breakfast is amazing, walking distance to the city centre. If coming to Derby again I would definitely stay here again.. Thank you for a lovely time, I would recommend staying here.
I booked here after needing somewhere in Derby close to the town centre on a main arterial route served by public transport. The building and interior are grand, quirky and full of interesting furnishings. Staff are very friendly and the room I stayed in was well equipped clean and tidy. The four poster bed was a surprising feature and very comfortable. After plans changed I booked again for more nights in the same week. Initially I was placed in a different room, at the far end of the hotel. Unfortunately this didn't have a wifi connection which could have proved a problem for the three nights stay. However they were more than happy to switch me back to my original room, which I then locked myself out of by accident, making it an interesting first impression for all! The food options in the evening were limited at the time of my stay due to staff absence but on the Sunday evening I sampled the wonderful pizza provider situated on the premises and the bar is very reasonably priced. I sampled breakfast one of the mornings (additional £9.50) which was incredible quality. The bacon was thick and gorgeous, the eggs perfect, the full English in full was top notch. Toast, cereals and juice was also provided with a pot of tea but I couldn't finish it all! I didn't sample any other food or facilities whilst staying, worth noting there is a pub quiz on a Thursday evening (all but 1 table in the bar was reserved by 6pm) and they do show live sports when on (ie premier league over the weekend) They offer very competitive room rates, in a great location for a 15 minute walk into Derby city centre. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff I had the pleasure of dealing with. I would recommend 100% and love to have the opportunity to return.…
I needed a centrally located hotel when visiting my daughter and thought the Georgian looked interesting and good value. I must say that every aspect of my stay exceeded my expectation. To start with the mundane, the hotel was easy to find and the private car park on site. On arrival and check in the manager could not have been more helpful. My room was large with a four poster bed and a large on-suite. The antique furniture tasteful, functional and in keeping. The pub, “Mr Grundys” which is part of the hotel is interesting with many curious artefacts. The patrons are likewise diverse and interesting, tending to range from friendly locals earlier in the evening to dinning couples later on. My daughter and I took supper in the pub, good quality, well prepared pub food, large portions and excellent value. The service from members of staff who were genuinely interested in the hotel and it guests was excellent throughout. There was a generous selection of ales many brewed on site, delicious and perfectly kept. When I retired I slept unusually well, partly due the the exceptional ale and partly due to the high quality mattress. In the morning I took breakfast in the dinning room. As much tea coffee, cereals and toast as you could wish and a freshly cooked to order full English, again consisting of high quality ingredients. My daughter and her friend turned up for breakfast and the manager set additional places for them without fuss. We took a tour of the ground floor a fascinating Georgian building with so much of interest and a conservatory with vines growing through and a wood fired pizza oven, something for next time. The hotel is clean and well presented, no mean feat given the age of the building and its antique fittings. I can’t wait to stay again. A complete antidote to modern plastic chain hotels with reheated or microwaved food, unspeakable breakfasts and disinterested workers.…
Turned up, to find the room very cramped and small, but i guess others would call it 'quaint'. I wasn't told about the fact i needed a code to get access to the part of the building where my room is. I returned around 2.30am to find everything locked. The bell doesn't work, tried to phone, no one there, so gave up. Had to stay at the jurys hotel ( very friendly, professional staff there by the way) I came back the next day, the person who let me in didn't even fake an apology and I was told i should have bashed the window, as if i was crazy for not thinking of that, potentially waking everyone up 😂 When I checked out I could hear the woman, who i assume is the manager, saying "well she's already used the facilities now so i can't give her a refund etc" She was very rude when i left and the apology certainly didn't sound genuine. She just seemed very defensive. I have cancelled my future booking and would recommend anyone to stay somewhere else. Im sure the staff will be having a giggle at this but if i treated people like this at my job in the NHS then id be getting the sack.…
We we supposed to be staying here on Saturday night, but they had doubled booked the room - so we were bounced with no apology. Not acceptable in my view, resulting in increased costs and stress in finding somewhere else We had paid in full in advanced - very shoddy practice Avoid like the plague
The photo of the Sunday roast looks delicious.... But it is certainly NOT WHAT YOU GET. so don't be fooled. No stuffing, no red cabbage or sliced beans. All you get is Potatoes, two Yorkshires, slice of beef and Carrott Cauliflower and Peas and everything was COLD. I have screenshot what they have used, but unfortunately I didn't get what I worked hard to pay for. I'm disappointed and still angry as I didnt address it enough and neither did The owner she was totally oblivious to the golf balls she bought out for me to eat and I would have been embarrassed to serve. AVOID THE ROAST!! WHAT YOU SEE BELOW CERTAINLY IS NOT WHAT YOU GET! BURNT OFFERINGS! What happened to Mr Grundies of old where the food was hot, plenty of it, plates were hot and the cutlery and table was squeaky clean and a roast was a proper roast..!! and you came away Happy and full... A thumbs down from me!!…
Our room was above a very noisy pizzeria. That banged crashed and shouted to each other until 11pm. Very grubby, dust everywhere. Bed so noisy, we put the mattress on the floor. In order to get some sleep. I felt the place needs a good clean, if not a bit of a makeover. Old doesn't need to be dirty. Cup used and tray coffee stained from previous residents. Carpet needed a good hoover or even a shampooing. TV remote so dirty, I didn't want to touch it. Only itv available when I did. Nice hot shower though clean sheets, towels and toilet. Best part was the tree in the garden.
We managed to secure a last minute stay at the Georgian House Hotel this weekend. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners. The building is beautful with a really quirky mix of decor, original wood paneling, sweeping grand staircase and narrow corridors we didn't sample pizza cooked in the hotel's pizzeria or the breakfast. The room standard was good. We shared a family room with a four poster bed and twin beds, clean bathroom and ok shower. Overall, it's a cool place only a short walk from town centre, on site parking and lots of amenities.
I thought I’d try this place as a change whilst working in derby and I wish I hadn’t bothered. The pictures they use on the various booking sites bear no relation to the reality- the rooms are tiny and the very uncomfortable bed takes over the room. The whole place desperately needs some money spending on it - it does seem to appeal to a certain sort of clientele, something which is perhaps best highlighted by the notice on the (tiny) bathroom wall which asks guests not to dispose of their condoms down the toilet. There are far better places to stay - I couldn’t get out fast enough.
