The Hilton London Gatwick Airport hotel is lauded for its spotless rooms and efficient housekeeping, providing a fresh and welcoming atmosphere. While the hotel's rooms are appreciated for their convenience to the airport, offering spaciousness and comfort, some guests have experienced issues with soundproofing. Despite the high price point and some feedback on overpriced amenities, its proximity to Gatwick Airport and the professional service provided by the staff make it a popular choice for travelers seeking easy airport access.

We used this hotel twice this week as we had a very early flight out and a late arrival back. It is a few minutes walk from the main airport but is all under cover and well lit and signposted. We booked standard rooms which were provided outbound, but might have been upgraded to the deluxe room inbound, as we were placed in the annexe. The rooms were clean and tidy with neutral furnishing and twin beds, which were queen size, so plenty of room. Beds were comfortable with two fat squishy pillows. Air con worked to a degree - it did not cool as much as we wanted but brought the temperature down about 4 degrees. The ensuite bathrooms were again clean and fresh with thick towels, two hand and two bath sheets. Toiletries were provided (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel (+ one other ? what) and a small bar of soap. There was also a shower cap. We only used the shower inbound, as we were only in the room for 4 hours outbound, but it was hot and did the job.

In the bedroom there was a hairdryer in the desk with mirror. Paper and pen provided. There were tea/coffee making facilities with tea, coffee and peppermint tea. We didnt investigate the wardrobe area so cannot confirm what other items were in the room. The standard room outbound was not noisy enough to stop us sleeping, but there were lots of little soft bangs - this might have been because we were next to the lift. The room in the annexe inbound was very quiet but it is quite a walk from reception - we timed it at 3.5 minutes. Staff were very friendly, even at a quarter to midnght and check in and out was quick and efficient. Breakfast was good with the usual toast, pastries, cereal, fruit, cooked items and a pancake making machine, but is quite pricey. (The porridge was really good.)

I have only one 'complaint' and that is, for a room in a 'newish' hotel, the power points and other sockets provided had not been thought through properly. There were no USB ports anywhere in the room and, when we thought we would use the adapter we had brought with us, the single power point near the bed was a) on the wrong side and b) too close to the floor for my adapter. There was no way to charge our phones and still have them close by to check the time if we woke in the night. There was a range of sockets in the upstand of the desk but there was only one power socket which, again, was too close to the desk surface for my USB adapter. In this day and age I would think that providing USB sockets near the beds would have been essential. I would advise you to bring a USB adapter which does not stick out below the plug.

Overall we thought this was a great hotel with good facilities, comfort and cleanliness. We would definitely use the hotel again. It is good value for money and its position at the airport is invaluable for those early morning flights and late night arrivals.

Being close to the airport is the main benefit of this hotel and the transition into the new part of the hotel is very noticeable with thick carpets and really clean new rooms.

What lets it down in the service in the bar area which was terrible. The table service staff don't seem to think they should look around the room to see who needs drinks, food etc. Eventually we were served and order drinks then some tapas. About 45 mins later, after our original waitress had disappeared, we were told they would be a wait for food. 10 mins later the food arrived. It was just about ok but not worth the wait. In the hour we waited no other staff came to see if we wanted more drinks. We did hear other tables complaining and being offered free crisps as an apology! Be easier to walk over to one of the fast food places and take food back to room.

So stay at the hotel but eat, drink elsewhere.

Dear markbZ2357VI, thank you for choosing this hotel for your accommodation and for taking the time to post. I was very pleased to see your strap line and thank you for complimenting the new rooms. I was however extremely sorry to read of the service issues you encountered and offer my unreserved apologies. There will be a full investigation of the service comments made recently as this is not the impression we wish to give. Whilst the hotel is under renovation, the most important aspect is service which we fully understand. I am so sorry that our service strategy was not evident during your stay and this will be rectified. Thank you for bringing these issues to my attention. Sincerely, Kara Monteiro, General Manager

We stayed for a night prior to our flight out of Gatwick. The room costs about the same as a Premier Inn and there's a reason for that. The standard bedrooms are dated and whilst reasonably decorated it brings to mind the old saying that you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.

The bed is a decent size and comfortable enough but there are very few electrical sockets and those that do exist are generally not in a convenient place i.e. nowhere near the bed. TV is a fairly lame selection of channels but the safe is a decent size should you need to use it. Fixtures and fittings in the bathroom have seen better days and the Aircon seemed difficult to control with any certainty.

This hotel is all about the location being walkable to the south Terminal in a coulee of minutes and at the prices they charge it's a very convenient option. Just don't go expecting full on Hilton luxury.

Thank you for taking the time to post. I was grateful to see the good score and read your positive feedback despite it being clear we did not reach your expectations and please accept my unreserved apologies. All customer comments are shared with the senior management team to ensure they review and take remedial action where possible. This hotel has been underfunded for many years. I am however delighted to confirm that we are now a franchised property and a 44+ million pound refurbishment is already underway. It is so extensive that it will take until 2023/24 to fully realised. We do already have 112 totally renovated bedrooms back in our inventory with more than 700 to follow in stages along with all food outlets and public areas including the executive facility. I do hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back with us. Sincerely, Kara Monteiro, General Manager.

Absolutely perfect stay before an early flight! I have the Hilton App so I was able to get digital check-in for our room, which meant we could breeze past the check-in desk and go straight to our room using my phone as the key.
The room was perfect, bed was comfortable, soundproofing was excellent and the bathroom has a separate shower and bath which is always nice.
We grabbed some dinner at the restaurant and our servers were very friendly and efficient despite clearly dealing with a lot of guests who were from flight delays / cancellations. Food was lovely.
We had an early flight so again made use the digital checkout and simply walked out not having to return any keys - such a breeze!
Special mention: You can imagine our horror when we got to our destination and discovered we had left our entire envelope of Euros in the room on the bed! Apparently we don't function well in the mornings. We were completely gutted and had pretty much resigned it to being lost. We called the hotel who asked us to email their Housekeeping team to check the room. You can imagine our delight when they confirmed that the envelope had been found and handed in by one of their team Anna T and was being kept safe for us. We collected the envelope upon our return and providing our proof of ID and cannot thank the team enough! We made sure to leave a Thank you for Anna of course but I just want to Thank all the team again. We had a lovely smooth stay and your help with our lost item has sealed our loyalty with the Hilton brand!

Booked via holidays extra to stay here on the evening of the 5th march, simply required somewhere for six hours sleep and a shower after a long haul flight which arrived just after midnight until catching a short haul flight the next morning.
On arrival the reception advised we had been upgraded to a better room, this was followed by the statement the room has no lights, i asked if there was at least a lamp in the room and they said yes, was offered a free breakfast which i declined. After a long walk to the room with cases we discovered there was in fact no light of any kind in the room “total darkness”. I left my wife sitting by the light of the tv and returned to reception to report the room was in total darkness, they basically said nothing they could do as there were no other rooms, they may perhaps have a room in another hotel which was located in the north terminal which would mean travelling back to where we had just come from, i asked if they had a lamp or at least a torch we could use they said no, i was not happy at this so they offered a full refund as the room condition was not acceptable. We worked in the room using the torch on my phone but as the room did not have usb plugs the torch died pretty quick. We showered at 0500 using the little torch light we had left and checked out and returned to the airport terminal to at least sit in some comfort. On checking out the receptionist said we would receive a 50% refund (half the offer made on arrival). Needless to say ten days later no apology or refund of any kind and i don’t expect to receive any either. Never again will i use this hotel.

We got to the Hilton after a long day of traveling and used this hotel due to the location for a flight the next day, The location is excellent and the connection to the airport is easy to use. I'm not sure why passed reviews moan about this as a bit of a walk as it's really not and is well sign posted within the airport and outside where buses and taxis do drop offs. As for the hotel it's lovely big and for any airport hotel well above the average. We had a Junior Suite which was lovely big and had a great view facing the planes landing. Considering how close we were to the airport there was no noise at all which surprised us. We were like kids watching the planes flying close by to land. The best part was the Exceitive Lounge which offers plenty and then some. During 6,30pm to 8,30pm they offer drinks for guests with a great choice and also offer hot food options. I'm lost again by past reviews and guests moaning about the amount of choice as there is more than enough on offer to please everyone. I can only see a true snob turning there noise up at this hotel. We had a great stay and all the staff were friendly welcoming and we would use this hotel again should we need to fly from Gatwick or once coronavirus allows. When we do stay again we would book any room that has access to the Exceitive Lounge as it's well worth the upgrade if you can get it during your stay. Over all and considering this is an Airport hotel where they do cost more I do feel this was good value for money and a very high standard in all areas. All staff we spoke too were nice and very friendly and all had masks on.

This was our second time staying here the night before we headed off to a flight over seas.
Our room had just been refurbished that month with new large TV screens which was probably over the top but unfortunately we could hear a continuing water drip though the night coming from the toilet cittern. We didn't report it on the night as we needed all the rest we could get. I'm certain if I had reported it on the night at 1am they would have moved us but we just needed to put up with it and not get moved. The room should have been snagged better and not signed off until the dripping had been done.
In general it's a nice hotel but I would say over priced. Not just the rooms but all services. Especially when you consider that they do not supply free WIFI get out off the Stone Age Hilton.

This Hilton needs to raise its service game to the worldwide standard. The staff are polite but need customer service training, and the rooms needs a lot of upgrading to be consistent on a number of fronts. The premium WiFi in particular needs a major upgrade as it was very poor.

We booked the Gatwick Airport Hilton with Maple Parking Meet & Greet. The meet and greet part went well and was no fuss, however when we went to check in we queued at reception for 20+ minutes. It wasn't as if we arrived at a peak time (3pm) it was just that not enough staff were on duty and those that were, were very slow. Not a good first impression.

Other gripes...no free wifi, food and drink VERY expensive and not great quality.

I know this is a premium location, so I expected to pay more for food and drink, but both my wife and I just felt ripped off. To rub salt in the wounds the quality of the food and service was poor.

Had a wonderful stay, being fortunate enough to stay in an executive room. It was spotless, spacious and very quiet. The glass area where some of these rooms are located is very tranquil, even just walking along the corridor. Although the executive lounge was busy in the evening (it’s a popular place), the service was first rate. Glassware and dishes were promptly cleared away. In fact, my experience right from check in was excellent: friendly, professional staff. Although I fly out of the N Terminal, I continue to choose Gatwick Hilton South because of the great customer service.
