This really is a case of you get what you pay for. Room was adequate and clean though tired and run down, it was merely a room to rest our heads after a heavy night. Corridors stunk of cigarette smoke. Don't expect anything fancy for £45 in the centre of Manchester

Breathtaking Victorian entrance with huge bright chandelier and opulent wide staircase . Glamorously dazzlingly, marred only by the hideously McDonald's style wall posters advertising meal-deals plastered everywhere. The atmosphere added a damp or stale odour. I walked about a little and visited the bar which had worn and delappated furniture and dirty scruffy cushions. The staff were polite and friendly.

Ended up here after walking straight out of the little northern hotel. Wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Had a room with no windows but it did have a ceiling window, lovely room. Would stay again

We visited the Britainia hotel on Feb 11th. It was like stepping back to the 80s. The room was clean however the windows did not shut. There were no handles on them and if there had been a bit of wind they would of been flapping in the night, the could of done with a good clean. We has a...

Booked single night in a double room. I know the room was economy but have paid less and got a lot more. The foyer looks amazing with an astounding staircase and chandelier. Reception was painless and we were directed to our room. The corridor to the room had a funky musty smell, carried on into the room. The heat in...

We've just checked in to our 'suite' and we're really disappointed. The room is dirty, really don't want to sit on the couch in the room! The hall stinks of cigarettes and there's one towel, a broken tap and the shampoo is a dispenser on the wall (again broken) in the bathroom!

This hotel is stubbornly stuck in the past with a sense of slow, functionality that forgets its providing a customer experience. When booking I only selected this due to location. I chose a room with no window - £20 cheaper and I thought it would be dark and quieter, after all I was on a work night out and all...

Stayed for one night as was in Manchester for a concert. Upon entering the hotel, you are greeted by a grandiose staircase and chandelier - gives a very impressive look to the hotel. Reception staff all very friendly; did not dine/drink in hotel so cannot comment on that. Room itself was spacious, and whilst it felt a little tired, the...
