Remember the days when the Smithfield was a boozer full of locals? Well those days are gone and since it's re-furbishment a couple of years ago it is now a modern, bright place but still sells a range of excellent beers. No loud juke box or TV screens to distract just decent beer in the Northern Quarter.

Arrived to an abrupt and unfriendly reception wanting up front payment for a room we later found out was under total renovation. No plumbing, bunk beds, not worth the money we paid. Alas we had to stay due to lack of alternative accommodation. We were at no point told about mess we were left to stay in. Never again.

I was taken to this pub by a friend and it will now become a regular haunt. What you see outside is definitely not what you get inside and it is really stylish. It is a classy place once you're in and has a fantastic range of unusual beers. The set up is lovely and has a nice fire along...

Great range of beers often sourced from local craft breweries. Nice décor and pub games are encouraged including skittles and bar billiards. A must-visit place if you are in the area and its only a few minutes walk from central Manchester's Piccadilly gardens.

Thanks again David. Please note that this listing has been closed. We are now listed as Blackjack Tap House At the Smithfield (Tripadvisor wont let me change that name).

Had some great beers in here, what a selection. Tastefully refurbished and extremely friendly and helpful staff. This place really is a hidden gem. Well worth a visit. If you're visiting Manchester it's a must and another great reason for luvingvin Mqnchester. We'll be back.

Stayed at the Smithfield this month! Can I just say you get what you pay for. Clean, comfy and quirky! The hotel is above a pub, which is very cheap, with two young and very outgoing bar maids which kept us entertained at all night, very good double act! It was clear they were refurbishments were going on but this...

A friend of mine has taken over The Smithfield Hotel so please excuse all the previous comments. They have spent the last few weeks sorting the place out and are trying really hard and many of the rooms have recently been refurbished in to en-suites - there should be new pictures on the website soon. In the meantime please visit...

we were greeted on check in by a scruffy looking man who claimed to be the owner, who had clearly been drinking, and possibly even smoking mrajuana, as the whole bar area stank of it, we nearly walked out but given it was 7 pm on a saturday we probably would not of got a hotel anywhere else, we were...

Stayed here one night to see MUSE!! Thankfully it was just one night. Never again!!! Cash only and pay upfront. Given a code as could only get in through the back door later at night from the scruffy street. Wallpaper hanging off. Room smells of smoke. Peanuts all over the shared bathroom and hair in the sinks. The toilet in...

I could not believe the reviews below, the owner has explained to me that, he has been sorting out the rooms one by one and was so proud and enthusiastic about what it was going to look like. One thing that was really clear was that the owner, who you see working on the place, knows the place needs a...
