Showcasing Blackjack beers plus other national craft beers, this pub is a tremendous advert for real ale. All at reasonable prices too which always helps. Service is always friendly and knowledgeable staff will explain the beers. Some of them actually brewed some of it ! Please note that it is no longer a hotel.

The Smithfield Tavern as most drinkers know it is the tap for an excellent Manchester brewery, Blackjack. Visited on a Saturday night. Busy but service was friendly and efficient. We found a table without a problem. The Tavern is spacious, airy and has great atmosphere. As well as Blackjack beers a large range from other breweries available on cask and...

Popped in there tonight and the bar was nicely busy. One of the best range of beers in Manchester and at very reasonable prices. It has a traditional vibe about it with a "fire" in one part, darts and board games & books too :)

Visited here last December on the way prior to a Gig (at Band on the Wall). Really pleasant experience. Real ale, fantastically clean, relaxed calming atmosphere. Very enjoyable time spent, able to talk to friends, whilst drinking decent beer. Somewhere to bear in mind if in Ancoats and looking for a quiet, real ale establishment to bide way your time!

Now the Blackjack tap with a great range of beers from Blackjack and other craft brewers. Gins too. They have games to play too: not just darts but board games too, and books unusually. A nice atmosphere.

What can I say.....amazing beer, dart boards , pub games , no idiots aloud and great bar staff who make you feel welcome. Must be the best pub in Manchester by a country mile. Looking forward to seeing how things develop over 2016 and sampling the many different beers and ales.

..I don't think its listing helps. There does not seem to be a place where you can start a review trail for a place that has been open before. But hey ho: This is now settling in to be a warm welcoming place with craft beer (7 handpumps and 10 keg behind the bar). Also has specialist gin menu (like...

No fewer than TWO refurbishments, since the previous owners ruined this iconic Manchester venue, has made a VAST improvement. Blackjack Taphouse and their well-selected hosts have turned The Smithfield Market Tavern into a 'proper pub' once again. I sampled three of the 16 beers on offer - and was NOT let down by either the quality or fantastic service (which...

On my third visit to the newly Blackjacked Smithfield I began to realise why I like it so much. I was there on the opening night, feeling somewhat naked as one of the few men not sporting a floor length beard, and somewhat in awe of how trendy the Northern Quarter can be. Then, a couple of visits later, I...

.. as this is now run by Blackjack ales. Much improved IMHO and whilst the last reviewer - the first for this essentially new bar - is correct in that it "only" has 6 handpumped cask ales, it also has around 12 keg ales which though pricier than cask - are worth trying. They even had a 9% Belgian triple...
