Travellers' Choice
Winner of ‘Leading Hotel of the Year 2019’, The Edwardian Manchester brings redefined five-star luxury to the city’s beautiful Grade II*-listed Free Trade Hall. Following a recent multi-million-pound redesign, the hotel has been transformed into a lifestyle destination that introduces a new standard of service. Its 263 bedrooms are distinguished by ample space and floor-to-ceiling windows, whilst many of the stunning suites feature sweeping city views, entertaining areas and outdoor space. Nestled underneath the iconic colonnade is The Spa & Gym, a state-of-the-art wellness retreat in the heart of the city. Natural, tactile oak walls and a menu of mind-resetting ESPA treatments instil pure calm, alongside an expansive aquamarine pool with cabanas, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. Remaining a stage for celebration and entertainment, Peter Street Kitchen captures the essence of the building’s former glory and atmosphere, winning the prestigious “Best Luxury Restaurant” award in 2019 for its exquisite selection of contemporary Japanese and Mexican small plates. In The Library curated by Assouline, a space for relaxed socialising sets the scene for afternoon tea, signature cocktails and a Parisian-inspired menu. Located in Manchester’s city centre, the hotel provides unparalleled access to Spinningfields business district and the shopping and nightlife of Deansgate.

After a very stressful few months living in a building site, we decided to treat ourselves to some luxury and booked The Edwardian. We live close to Manchester and have eaten at the Hotel restaurant which was fabulous. I booked a suite based on the image and description on the site; a comfy sofa in front of a TV in case we didn't want to be out late into the evening and an urban garden with terrace as the weather was looking like it was going to be warm. On arrival, I was informed that breakfast wasn't included and had to search my booking for confirmation that it was. I was then told we would have to have room service on the first morning as there wasn't any room in the restaurant. Fine, except there weren't any suitable chairs in the room and although delivery was on time, the food was poor. Not what I expected from paying £1200 for 2 nights. The suite had a number of issues. Firstly the sofa pointed away from the TV which was right in front of the bed! The urban garden with terrace was in fact a covered indoor terrace with dirty seats overlooked by a number of other rooms, including the one above, hence no view at all. The room was tired and in need of some renovation and the bathroom fittings were not quite what I expected. I had to phone reception as I couldn't find the hairdryer, only to be told 'oh yes all the guests have difficulty locating it. Its behind a sliding mirror'. Why not put a sticker on the mirror then? Housekeeping didn't replace our hand towels. I know some of these things might sound picky to some people but this is supposed to be 5* I have stayed in hotels all over the world and consistently find that smaller privately owned hotels offer a much better level of accommodation and service. We just wanted a break in the City Centre with a couple of good meals and a rest. To top it all the discount code for car parking didn't work and we had to pay the full amount. I wont be going back.

Hotel was lovely and made us feel very welcome. Gary at concierge made our stay and I arranged balloons to the room which was made very easy for us to do with no problems whatsoever. Definitely will be coming back!

Wonderful hotel as ever and even more wonderful staff, made a great short break away. Special shout out to Vittoria on reception who happened to check us in (effortlessly) and out again (maybe she doesn’t go home, but her effervescence was enthusing at both ends of our stay) and Gary .. a very pleasant chap indeed. Great location for everything too.

Came for two nights. Hotel was just so beautiful and reception centre even smelled amazing. Rooms were lovely. We were moved because air con wasn’t working. Nothing was too much trouble for Victoria Dario and Jonathan. Customer is always right ethos will always work. Thank you for your service.
