The hotel location cannot be better, literally directly across from the cathedral. It served the purpose intended for us, as we didn't spend too much time. The hotel is a bit noisy (very very thin walls etc). There was a staircase right outside a window in our room that looked into the interior of the hotel (a very unusual renovation job to make what was seemingly multiple previous buildings into one). This meant there were loud metal-clinking footsteps regularly directly outside our room. Overall, it was a pretty good price, good location, pretty noisy and the room was obviously a bit older than the photos appear to make it seem.

Quaint tiny hotel. Old and worn in and showing its age. The staff made our stay. Manager went above and beyond.
The hotel is in the square with the Cathedral. Lovely shops food and walking.
We took a memorable wine tour in the alsace wine region.

Dear Guest, dear travelertips22, Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment regarding the Hotel Cathédrale. The hotel offers several categories of rooms, from the most original to the most classic, on the cathedral or courtyard side, perched attic or on one level in front of the cathedral. Each decoration is personalized, according to color codes, photo-editing in the form of panoramic, visual creations in some bathrooms ... urging you to come back to see us regularly to discover all the hidden charms of this house!

October 2004. I stayed here for four days and was very happy with my room. The staff upgraded me to a two-storey room. The bedroom was upstairs and the bathroom and sitting room were downstairs. The rooms have nice views and are very comfortable. The hotel is in the main square across from the cathedral. There are lots of great shops and restaurants in the area. Breakfast is included in the room rate. I would stay here again.

The experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. I chose a 4 star hotel with a photo of the room that looked quite nice. In fact, the room was extremely disappointing and required paying more (30€/night) to get a room for 2 where you can breath.

Secondly, my wife and son stayed at this hotel, as I could not travel, and the desk clerk treated my wife, who is black, with disrespect and demanded payment in cash for the room upgrade immediately. The treatment only exacerbated the feeling of disappointment, and I would never recommend this hotel as a result!!!

The lunch is terrible. A salad (which is only some salad and beef - not even fresh) is charged 13 euro's. A burger which is a dry as the Sahara dessert is 15 euros. You have to be joking! The hotel itself; i dont know but please dont eat there.. it feels like a scam.

The room for 680 eur/3 nights was terrible, like at a grandmother's house in a village where there is nothing new and good - dark, not clean enough, there was no wardrobe to hang clothes and most importantly there was no view of the cathedral. The room had two small windows with a terrible view. Breakfast is poor. Not worth the money.

This was our least favorite hotel during a 3 week visit to Europe.

Our first experience was the unfriendly clerk who simply pointed up a flight of stairs when we arrived too early to check in but needed to leave our luggage. The hotel has a small self service luggage room, which was packed. There was hardly any room to shut the door after adding our carry-on bags.

We returned at 3 pm to check in and the clerk honestly accosted our 70+ year old friends for having sent 3 emails to reserve their room. ( The hotel did not send a confirmation for any of the emails.)

Finally, when we returned from dinner, an unfriendly clerk demanded to see our keys to confirm we were staying there.

Other reviews have covered the tiny worn rooms.

With better management this hotel could be so much better.

Great location, right in the middle of shopping, restaurants and cafes. Hotel is directly in the Cathedral square; views from some of the rooms are of the square and of the Cathedral, some of the inner courtyard. Rooms were clean, and the staff was very friendly, and helpful. Breakfast was the typical European fare of meats and cheeses. Parking was limited, call ahead to reserve a spot. All and all a pleasant experience.

This is the only hotel in Strasbourg where you walk out the door and the cathedral is just THERE swooping majestically up in front of you. Took my breath away everyday! We had a fine room on the first floor looking on to the cathedral and maison kammerzell, which also meant gypsy music in the afternoon and a lone flautist in the evening, which just added to the holiday atmosphere. Since the centre is pedestrianised, the hotel is in fact amazingly quiet in the evening (at least in October). The staff were excellent - friendly, reliable, helpful, all happy to speak English (unlike a lot of shops & restaurants). Good breakfast, although the coffee machine runs out a bit too often. Surrounded by bars and restaurants and two minutes from the river, and a very decent price too. We had a lovely romantic week here.

I travel all over the world extensively and have stayed in some great, some good and some bad hotels. This one is a bad hotel.
The whole place looks threadbare, as you haul your bags up narrow and winding stairs. After you find the single tiny elevator on your own, since the unfriendly and lazy person behind the reception desk who looked utterly annoyed at your arrival, would just point her polished fingernail at the general direction of where you might find it, you realize that you might as well go up and down a few more stairs past several bizarrely oppointed room for the minimalistic breakfast that you will eat the next day, to find your cell, I mean room. Literally, my wife and I had to squeeze ourselves into a tiny room with a rug that must have been vacuumed the days after the magnificent cathedral next door was completed. The tv screen on the wall blocked the way to the bathroom, which housed a not so secure toilet, squeezed between the sink and the wall. The towels are antique. I believe Louis the fourteenth used them. But the best was the size of the so-called room. Ten percent of it was occupied by a massive minibar housed in a disgustingly decrepit fake wood frame. The bed was against the wall on one side, so I had to slide forward to leave it. Only one of us could be up and about at any point, as there was no room for two adults to be moving around. I tried to call reception for a taxi. The phone did not work. One night it got quite cold, making us to discover the heater built likely when De Gaul was president didn't work. When I walked to the lobby to ask for help, I was told it will be addressed in five minutes, after which a staff member brought a large electric heater over. I told him it would take a space genius to force it, me and my wife into that room. He did. He must have worked previously for a circus.

I have never written a review of a hotel I have stayed in, but this one was so awful that I have to do it. Also, I am embarrassed to let my lovely colleagues at the university of Strasbourg who invited me for a lecture to know about this. I am only hoping that they somehow read this review and boycott this sorry excuse for a hotel in the future.

This place should simply be shut down. It is an utter embarrassment.

As I recall, there are about 3-4 steps from the street to the inside of the hotel lobby. And, there are a couple of stairs to the elevators. There is a small staff there. But, I am sure if someone is free they will be happy to help. We were there in October so, it might be quite different in the busy summer season when more staff might be on duty. Email the hotel and let them know your concerns and see what they are able to offer. Lovely hotel, and, hope you have a room looking out to the Cathedrale. Stunning view.

There is an elevator.but I would contact the hotel to let them know your situation. As I recall there were some steps, too. Small hotel staff. But I bet someone there will be willing to help. Very kind people there.
