I can't recommend Hotel Le Cro-Magnon enough, if you are deciding between more than one hotel in this area please do yourself a favour and choose this one!
We stayed for a week half board in August and it was the most idyllic week, from seeing the beautiful exterior of the hotel, set into the cliff and sympathetically restored we knew that our stay would be perfect.
The owners Jan and Ruud have put everything into this hotel and their efforts are evident in the attention to detail and all the little touches that make this hotel so special. Rooms are spotless and cleaned every day, we had a quiet room at the back just overlooking the swimming pool which was very comfortable with good air conditioning. It was hot the week we were there so we stayed around the cosy and charming pool area most of the day which was lovely, our son was rarely out of the pool which was so refreshing, and the umbrellas and patio areas were great too.
At 3pm Ruud would come out and take drinks orders and make sure everyone was happy, which of course we were as how could you not be at a place like this!
We were half board, which usually means a buffet but the food at Le Cro-Magnon is as far from a lukewarm buffet as you could imagine, with an imaginative three course menu. Jan is the Chef of the couple and the food was delicious, full of flavour and beautifully presented. Even when he burned his arm he soldiered on with the cooking! Also worth a special mention was the waiter Julian (Julien?) who was always so quietly friendly and respectful and made our long relaxed dinners on the terrace very enjoyable.
Definitely go to Hotel Le Cro-Magnon if you can, I would go back tomorrow. Thank you Ruud and Jan for a fantastic week, and I hope we will see you again!

We booked 1 night at Le Cro-Magnon after a day’s kayaking on the Vezere, which was the perfect location as we were so tired afterwards and only had to drive over the road from the kayak place. The pool area is lovely and serene, surrounded by plants and flowers and we loved eating in the hotel’s restaurant that night - the courtyard setting was gorgeous. Parts of the hotel are very dated but it appears Ruud and Jan are slowly modernising it to great taste, which you can already see in the breakfast room. A really great base for exploring the nearby caves or water sports.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful village!
We stayed four nights with our two children (2y & 5y old) in the familyroom. The room was very big and quite with a seperate bedroom for the oldest child (also possible for two children.)
The owners, Ruud & Jan, did everything to make us feel at home and we did!
Diner for the kids around 18.30u was no problem, and the children’s menu was perfect.
There’s so much to visit around the Dordogne area, we have to come back soon 😁!

The hotel dates back to the mid 1800s and is built into the rock formation. The hosts have updated most of the rooms and bathrooms which are spacious and air-conditioned. Two dining areas, a quiet sitting/reading area, and a swimming pool, perfect for cooling off after a hike. The best breakfasts and good dinners! The hosts are charming, speaking multiple languages.

At only a one hour drive from Bergerac Airport, the charming hotel Le Cro-Magnon is located in Les-Eyziers, a small village with an unique historical heritage. The surroundings are spectacular and make Hotel Le Cro-Magnon the ideal base to explore the beautiful Perigord. Ruud and Jan are the perfect hosts, guiding you through your stay. They serve a delicious breakfast and dining at the hotel's restaurant is a culinary treat, enjoying the best local specialties and wines. What a relaxing few days!

What a beautiful night from start to finish! The terrace with the trees and beautiful atmosphere was just so nice! The host and chef were just amazing!! They were so attentive to our needs considering I have digestive problems they went out of their way to do everything to make me have the best evening...THANK YOU! This place has a really personal feel as the hosts have really put themselves into the hotel and restaurant. They are beautiful people, super friendly and they make you feel at home. Also according to the current situation...we felt really safe, measures are in place regarding social distancing (which we haven’t seen a lot of in the area) and overall we had the best night during our entire holiday! A definite for a lovely quiet dinner with a personal touch! Loved it!! Great job guys, we hope to visit again :)

The food, rooms and location are great. But the couple who run the place are the heart of the place.

I hope that someone will make a training video for other hotel managers and use this place as a gold star example. As other reviews state their 'unforgettable experience' I echo these words.

I thank Rudd for all he did to help me out in so many ways. And his partner who provided outstanding meals.

Hint to all who attempt to travel in this region. Rent a car before you come to the village. There are no local buses and the taxi service must be reserved well in advance. The train service is not great. If you don't want to rent a car let Rudd know so he can book the taxi for you well in advance.

Hint for bird watchers. There is excellent birding around the river five minutes from the hotel.

Hint for Pate de foi eaters. I give this hotel's pate #1 rating and I did my best to sample many in the village.

Hint for sleep quality. Close the wooden shutters outside your window to provide a dark room.

I think this place will do well with its pleasant and enthusiastic owners who are making improvements. The hotel is situated at one end of the village on the main road near the river. It is an historic and atmospheric place built into the rocks which are visible inside as a major feature. Our room was at the back and so very quiet. It was a little dark due to large thick curtains partially obstructing the light. Furnishings are simple with a large and comfortable bed. The shower room was basic and clean. There is dining inside and out on a terrace but we did not eat there. The breakfast room is modern and lacks character. A very basic French breakfast is served with the coffee from a machine which is a pity and you may well do better going to one of the cafes in the village. There seem to be quite a lot of activities starting at this hotel and the owners are helpful. The front rooms overlook the road and although it is not busy at night there are a few heavy lorries that are noisy on traversing the level crossing. Despite therefore some flaws it is a hotel that I would happily revisit.

Dear, Thank your for your review and the constructive feedback. We will take all points into consideration. We do not agree on the breakfast which is definetely not a basic French breakfast. For 12 € you get: eggs à la carte served at table & buffet with local yoghurt, muesli, different jams, fresh fruits, 2 types of butter, nutella, speculoos pasta, everyday minimum 2 cheeses and minimum 3 different meats (charcuterie), different options in bread, viennoiseries, croissants, aromatised water, 2 juices, milk and different kind of coffees. Warm regards Ruud, Jan & Team Cro-Magnon

Nice hotel, with even higher potentials, in the Périgord.
We stayed just 2 nights and visited lovely villages and an amazing Cave in the neighbourhood. Both hosts,
Ruud and Jan do the outmost in order to keep all types of guests, adults with are without children, happy and at ease.
Lovely breakfast and a nice dinner in the back garden.
Keep it going guys!

The hotel is in a great place just a short distance from the local train station and the entrance to town as well as a short walking distance from many of the restaurants in town. If you're traveling for cycling in the area the also have a locked place to store your bikes.
The staff was very friendly and helped us every time we needed a help. The room was big, well lit with large french doors leading to a terrace where you can sit and enjoy the quiet. I like the ability to cast from my phone to the t.v. in the room.
The hotel's restaurant was very good (they serve a great Negroni)
