I had a choice of places to stay in Azay-le-Rideau, and am so glad I chose Le Grand Monarque. Only sorry we hadn't booked a longer stay. The location is perfect, as it is a short walk to the chateau, and is an easy drive to several other chateaux. It is situated right next to the public parking square for... More

My husband and I have just enjoyed 7 nights at this lovely hotel. Our room was lovely and quiet and overlooked the courtyard garden area. It was large, comfortable and clean. The breakfasts are very good value for money. We did not know at the time that the hotel has a restaurant for evening meals, which is a shame as... More

We had a lovely two night stay. We ate in the restaurant on one night. I cannot recommend this hotel too highly. Great position in a lovely small town, very friendly Monsieur et Madame, great food, lovely room. We will go back there again.

My wife and I returned to Le Grand Monarque after some many years to find the hotel as comfortable and the staff as helpful and courteous as ever - if not more so! This is a beautiful hotel with an amazing history located in the centre of Azay which is a remarkable attraction in its own right. We recall the... More

Of the three good hotels we stayed in last week, this stood out as by far the best. Welcoming and helpful staff, a lovely spacious and private room and excellent restaurant. The addition of secure, undercover parking and a great location made it perfect.

My wife and I stayed here while touring the Azay area. We felt welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. We were greeted by two friendly hosts who told us where the ample parking was across the street. Our room was on the top floor so had an interesting ceiling with beams. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom... More

We chose this family-run hotel for its location. It is well placed for an overnight break, driving between Calais and the south of France. We also wanted a hotel with some character and we were not disappointed. The welcome was extremely friendly and the owner carried our case up to our room - a good thing since it was on... More

We spent 2 nights here in August in the midst of a late summer heat wave. Our room was comfortable, well appointed and cool! The hotel is in a great location mid-town and the dinner we had at their restaurant was one of the best of our 3 week trip. If you are visiting the sights in this part of... More

An impressive and somewhat historical hotel in the centre of town. Our room was simple but large and clean with a comfy bed and a good shower. Creaky hallway floorboards were the only complaint as far as our serenity was concerned. The staff were very helpful and friendly and extremely obliging. A lovely courtyard to share a drink or a coffee... More

This hotel was excellent. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. The room in the old building was historical but at the same time clean and with modern facilities. Lovely bathroom. The breakfast was good- the boiled eggs were a nice touch. The location is great for exploring the town and in particular the chateau.
