Just had a 5 night stay at Hotel Monge in the 5th Quartier, This is an elegantly lovely, very clean and comfortable hotel just up from Blvd Saint Germain in a more quiet area of the 5th and which happens to be next to the Arene de Letuce, a historic landmark which about 2 thousand years ago was a Roman Arena, It gives the hotel a peaceful aspect right out the window of the rooms and you can hear the pigeons which gather there and coo in their unique, haunting French melody. The hotel is near a Metro stop, which I noticed that on the lower floors can make a soft rumbling sound in the lobby, but we were on the 5th of the 6 floors and could not hear it at all. The bathroom was very modern and has both the handheld shower head as well as the rainfall shower. The toilet is in the same room and the door of the showers completely closes so no water gets on the floor.
The breakfast is really good with fresh scrambled eggs, fruit, yogurts, croissants, coffees, and fruit juices as well as bread and toast and cheeses, There is also a big pitcher of detox water infused with lemon and cucumber slices which was delightful and addictive, and is always available. Later in the day there is an honesty bar which was very nice to enjoy in the evening for a nightcap either in the lovely lounge area near the kitchen with big sofas and chairs, or which you can take up to your room.
This hotel is very near all the public transportation you could want in Paris as well as cafes and wine bars and little grocery shops, and is just a 5 minute walk from the Place de Contrascarpe and Rue Mouffetard, chock full of restaurants and bars.
Something which makes Hotel Monge really special are the lovely people who will greet you and be there for you during your stay, They have a concierge service which allows them to give you whatever help you need in Paris but also on a personal level these are kind, warm and helpful people. In particular both Emily and Salome extended themselves to help me with understanding the French train stations and tickets and and other matters I needed a helping hand with which I deeply appreciated; I have not always found the front desk help in the 3 Paris hotels I have stayed at to be helpful in this way. They went the extra mile!

There is as well a steam room and massage room neither of which I used but are good to have on hand. There was good air conditioning and good wifi also both of which are must-haves.

In short, you can expect 4 star service at Hotel Monge even though you do not pay 4 star rates. And they speak English quite well so Americans like myself can easily communicate. I unreservedly recommend this hotel.

This was my second stay at Hôtel Monge, and it was perfect. If I could give this hotel more than five stars, I would. The service is attentive and friendly, with helpful recommendations. The rooms are tasteful and clean, and the hotel is full of thoughtful touches, like outlets that accommodate different electrical plugs, a well stocked honest bar in the lobby, bed headboards with integrated reading lights, and very quiet windows and doors. The Hammam (steam room) is clean and very relaxing. The breakfast is perfect, with fresh pastries, choices of protein, and fresh fruit. The staff even went out of their way to place an item that was left behind in my room in an Uber, which dropped it off to me at a train station across the city. I cannot recommend this hotel more highly.

Dear Julian, On behalf of our team I would like to thank you for such a wonderful review of yours ! It was a great pleasure to welcome all of you at Hotel Monge last month. It is very important for us to know that our establishment responded to your expectations when it comes to the decoration and cleanliness of the rooms, our offer at the Honesty Bar, as well as the breakfast buffet supplied with fresh and local products every morning. We are also glad to know that thanks to the session at the Hammam and a massage you have had a very relaxing experience. As for the forgotten item, luckily you have realized that while still in Paris and so we were able to help ! We hope to have another occasion to welcome you among us, maybe for a little bit longer, this time ! Warm regards, Team Monge

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Monge the people at reception were so helpful and gave good advice on nearby restaurants and helped with booking restaurants and tickets to museums. Breakfast was wonderful the best pattiseries and there too only smiling faces from the people who were in charge of refilling and changing table linen. The decor is luxurious and the bedroom small but good functioning airco whilst Paris was sweltering unexpectedly in September made it very comfortable. The bed and bedlinen very high quality and fab shower. Neighbourhood depicts the real Paris with butchershops, bakeries, flowershops and markets for those who live there and not only for tourists. And yes so now and then you hear the metro passing but hey that is what one can expect when visiting Paris. It is alive.

Dear Ellen, We are delighted to read such a lovely review regarding your recent stay among us! First, we are deeply touched by your words toward our team. It’s always a pleasure to assist our guests during their stay, booking tickets for Parisian attractions or recommending nice typical addresses! Be sure that we will transfer your compliments to the lady who works at breakfast too. We are also delighted to hear that you loved the design of your room, its comfort and equipment, especially the air-conditioning. We are well aware that the size of our rooms can be a bit smaller when compared to international standards, but hopefully this little drawback didn’t impact your satisfaction. Eventually, it is a pleasure to know that the location in the Latin Quarter was convenient for you. As you said, the neighborhood is full of nice local restaurants, bakeries and smart boutiques. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon! Constance

We booked this hotel for three nights in Sept 2020 but due to COVID we were unable to travel. The hotel contacted us and offered us a 6 month voucher. Again we were unable to travel so they kindly extended it to 31st Dec 2021. It was clear to us that we would be unable to travel in this time and again contacted the hotel. Even though we had booked a non- cancellation rate they very kindly gave us a full refund. Communication with the hotel throughout was fantastic and their customer service was first class and I hope we get to stay there some time in the future

This is an amazing hotel with the greatest attention to detail, the most beautiful interior design and the most personalised service I have ever experienced in a hotel. You must stay here. Yes, the rooms are spacious but not as big as you might be used to in the US or elsewhere, but this is Paris where every square metre comes at a premium, and for Paris the rooms are really spacious. We love this hotel.

Hotel Monge was the perfect place to stay for our first visit to Paris. From our initial emails asking many questions about COVID testing and securing health passes to finding us a reliable cab when a transit strike was announced the day before our departure, the service at Hotel Monge is absolutely outstanding and made us feel so at home. Every person we encountered was kind and helpful, whether they were listening patiently to my attempts at French or communicating with my husband in solely English.

The hotel itself pulls off an impressive feat of being absolutely gorgeous and elegant and also exceptionally comfortable. Our superior room had plenty of storage and shelf space to unpack for our week long stay and the shower and bed were top notch. We had everything we could possibly need to feel great during our stay, and every area of the hotel was impeccably clean.

The complimentary tea and coffee were so welcome after long days and we also really enjoyed breakfast. The menu was the same every day and we opted to eat out a few days, but everything was delicious and so convenient on days when we wanted to get an early start. You do need to let the concierge know what time you'll be having breakfast the next day but we were able to do so quite late in the evening without running into any issues with availability at our desired times.

The location was great for hitting all of the neighborhoods we wanted to visit, and traveling from the airport and to Versailles. We were able to walk or take an easy metro ride to almost everywhere we wanted to visit, and the concierge was able to get us taxis quickly for our more far flung destinations. The Latin Quarter itself is also very charming and safe, with lots of restaurants and beautiful streets to explore.

I am missing Hotel Monge already and hope to return in the near future!

Dear Danielle, We do not even know how to thank you for such a thorough and rewarding feedback ! The whole team was delighted to welcome you and you husband for such an important occasion as your birthday and the first trip to Paris ! We are very happy to read that our assistance before and during your time in Paris has been helpful and hopefully made your stay easier. It is a pleasure to read that you were also satisfied with the choice of the neighbourhood. Indeed, Hotel Monge is situated at a convenient crossroad when navigating throughout the city or its suburb. Futhermore, as you said, Latin Quarter is a very authentic part of Paris with many delicious dining options. Secondly we are pleased that you have appreciated the breakfast buffet. It is a true that only some ingredients change from one day to another, leaving the rest of the variety throughout the week. Nevertheless, for longer stays like yours, it would be a pity not trying other spots in the neighbourhood. Thank you again for your kind words and we will wait with impatience to welcome both of you back at Hotel Monge !

The hotel is in a fantastic; location is brilliant, train travel to CGD airport is easy and quick. Metro stations are very close by but every major landmark/attraction in Paris can be be reached on foot (Trains out to Versailles are frequent and easy). The rooms are a great size and to a high standard. Bathrooms are highly appointed. It's very clean and welcoming. Whilst there are wonderful places to eat and drink nearby the honesty bar in the hotel offers a quiet (and good value) place to have a drink in the evenings. On arrival we were asked to book a breakfast slot for each day we were there which we did. The only issue we encountered was the slots we had booked being given to someone else and the breakfast room then being too full too accommodate us. Felt a pointless exercise... That said I would recommend this hotel and would return.

Dear Philippa, We thank you for writing a feedback for our hotel, following to your recent stay among us. It is a pleasure to read that you have appreciated the convenient location of our establishment, indeed close to many landmarks of the city as well as the public transportation. We are also glad that the comfort and cleanliness of the room was up to your expectations. However, we are sorry to read that there was a little drawback with the breakfast service. It is true that sometimes, especially during the weekend, it is very busy and that the dining room offers only a limited number of places. In order to better manage the flow and to ensure the comfort of our guests, a table reservation was put in place since the Covid pandemic. However, the booking time is only approximate, as it is difficult to impose a duration of the breakfast to our guests. This is why it may be necessary to wait a little before a table gets free. Nevertheless, you can be sure that our team is doing our best we can to prepare the seating as soon as possible. Nevertheless, we understand your disappointment and apologize for that. We hope to have another opportunity to welcome you among us and ensure an excellent breakfast service. Best regards, Aneta - Front desk Manager

My family and I visited Paris for the first time as a joint birthday present, and our stay here was made absolutely perfect by Salome and the team.

We were made to feel so well cared for and accommodated, rooms were exceptionally well maintained and cleaned, and the location was perfect for us, with easy access to the centre of the city and landmarks we wanted to visit.

We are so thankful to the team for making our holiday so special, and we will definitely be returning!

This was my second stay at the Hotel Monge and was warmly welcomed by the staff. While waiting for another guest to check in I was offered a drink of water which is provided along with snacks throughout the day in the hotels breakfast and lounge area. During this I had a lovely talk with the other member of reception staff which allowed me to practice my French she listened with interest and had many questions about my plans over the next few day of my stay in Paris including visiting museums and taking a train out to Saint Germain en Laye to see a good friend from University.

Check in was quick and efficient my heavier bags were brought up to my room a few minutes later. I had a standard room on the top floor the highlight of the hotel along with its location is its glass fronted lift/elevator which give an amazing view over the Roman Amphitheatre behind and over the Paris roof top this is especially stunning during early morning sunrises.

The room I stayed in was spacious for Paris with beautiful decor themed around exotic birds with books and a globe. Two bottles of water and glasses are in the room when you arrive. The bed in the room is comfortable and provides an excellent nights sleep. As I was at the back of the hotel facing the amphitheatre it was very quiet. The bathroom is also spacious with a shower and L'Occitaine toiletries though getting the temperature right for the shower took a number of tries.

Breakfast at the hotel is delicious and one of the best I have had at a hotel in Paris with a good selection of both hot and cold food along with pastries. The breakfast room is small but was never crowded during my stay so a relaxing place to enjoy your morning petit dejeuner along with this the breakfast staff are friendly and helpful.

The neighbourhood where the hotel is located is lovely even though on a busy thoroughfare it never felt noisy or hectic. With numerous shops and restaurants including those in the Latin Quarter and Panthenon. The hotel is served by two metro lines Place Monge on Line 7 and Cardinal Lemoine on Line 10 which are a few minutes walk away from the hotel. This makes getting to all major sites in Paris very easy and having two nearby metro stations can be very useful when there is a problem on one of the other lines which happened to me when returning to Gare du Nord for my Eurostar. When arriving to the hotel at Place Monge on Line 7 I advise taking the main entrance which has escalators the closer entrance to the hotel of Arenes Lutuece involves many stairs and is exhausting with a suitcase.

The staff as aforementioned are warm and incredibly friendly with a great knowledge of the local area and Paris. This will be especially appreciated by those who are on their first visit to both the hotel and to Paris.

I would definitely recommend the Hotel Monge to anyone planning to stay in Paris. This is especially the case if you want to experience a truly Parisian Hotel where when you arrive you are greeted warmly like a regular guest and that when you arrive in your room you know that you aren't in any other city but Paris.

I have been traveling to Paris every year for the past five years and I always stay at Hotel Monge. The rooms are always spotless and comfortable, and the services within the hotel and the kindness of staff remain top notch. Special shout out from our last trip in August 2021 to Sarah, who helped us with a suggestion for a fantastic traditional french meal within walking distance of the hotel, and to Constance, who helped us find and schedule the COVID tests we were required to take before returning home to the US (even though we are vaccinated). This is an all around great hotel and feels like a home away from home to us. See you next year, Hotel Monge!

Dear Ali E, Thank you for your question. We would enchanted to be your host during May 2024 ! We do have rooms specially designed for using a wheelchair in it. I have to let you know honestly the subway in Paris isn't quite accessible. To be quite clear, it isn't comfortable at all for people using wheelchairs. What is working best would be the Bus system. Much more accessible and much easier access to the Louvre. Please do contact us directly on "info@hotelmonge . com" for future conversation. Sincerely, Alec Manager
