Lovely hotel-- great location in the thick of the bustling, hip Latin Quarter, yet insulated from all noise in a beautiful garden courtyard. Charming small European hotel, fantastic location, friendly staff.

A really great hotel in a charming area, near the Contrescarpe place. There is a beautiful room where you can enjoy a typical french breakfast and in the summer, you can even eat outside. The only negative thing I would have to say is that there is no A/C. We went in May so it was not an issue but...

My family of five stayed here for 3 nights. It is a unique property in Latin Quarter. The unassuming entrance leads you into a beautiful cobblestone courtyard. We had rooms 217 & 218 in main building. One had 2 beds, 1 single and 1 double and the other room had 1 double bed. Only negative was carpet in one room...

There are already so many positive reviews for the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles, but had to add ours to the list. Charming, fantastic locations, wonderful staff. Our room was larger than expected, very clean and comfortable. Just steps from the wonderful place de la Contrescarpe which had cafes, bakeries, pubs, groceries and only a couple of blocks from the metro....

The rooms were supprisingly spacious for a hotel in the heart of Paris. They were clean and nicely decorated. The staff was courteous and helpful. The inner courtyard garden was a delightful refuge. The Grand Ecole is located in the Latin Quarter near the Sorbonne University. It is about a mile from the Left Bank with its tourist oriented neighborhood....

We stayed here last summer (2009) in August. It was very hot and there was no air-con so the room was hot, even at night. The location is good. I HIGHLY recommend room 251 if you are 3 or more. There is a curtain you can draw for a bit of privacy for and from teenagers! It's at the front...

We knew we were going to a 3 star hotel in the centre of a big city so were delighted to find the beautiful garden that leads up to the entrance of this hotel. We found the staff helpful, offering for us to leave our bags in our room on arrival even though we'd arrived very early (midday) and the...

What a great location. Two blocks to a Metro station, short walk to the Seine, Ile St. Louis, Norte Dame, the Bastille & Blvd. St. Germaine. Only 51 rooms, but off main streets and rooms are around a courtyard where you can relax out doors - yes there are tables & chairs to do this. The staff were friendly and accomodating....

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
