We stayed at the Opal for three nights. The location of the Hotel was superb, next to the Madeleine station. Our room was bigger than I anticipated for European standards. Our bed was comfortable and the bathroom roomy and clean. We found all the employees very nice and helpful. Our breakfast was tasty with a good assortment of breads and...

We saw some of the reviews after we had booked and were not looking forward to our trip. However the staff were charming, the room (404) pleasant (it overlooked Rue Tronchet), although a bit frayed around the edges. The minibar sucked but then so do all hotel minibars in my experience. Did not take the breakfast but ate at one...

Hotel Opal is right place to stay if just for sleeping purposes. This is our third stay here, and have noticed decline in decor (first stay was in 1993, second stay 2003). However our room on 2nd floor was clean, bathroom huge, overlooking Mathurins. No complaint about noise. Staff helpful, friendly, allows storage of luggage before or after check out....

We were referred to Hotel Opal after the hotel we had originally reserved had overbooked. Don't be fooled by the photos on the website - this is an old and very tired hotel. There is little charm to it. Our room was recently painted and the room still maintained a strong smell of paint; we therefore, had to open the...

The Hotel was 'tired' and in need of extensive restoration. The first room we were offered was no more than a back room cupboard with a T.V, Loo and Shower etc. squeezed in it. It looked out on the downpipes and drains of the upper floors (this was at the rear of the building). It was not acceptable and so...

We had booked this hotel despite reading mixed reviews here and on expedia. I was apprehensive of the outcome but was pleasantly surprised. THE ARRIVAL: We arrived early morning of the day of the check-in (around 8 AM). The person at the front desk told us that we would have to wait around 40 minutes for our room. We wanted...

Stayed at Hotel Opal based on the reviews from trip advisor. I'd a pleasent stay at Hotel Opal (1st week Aug 05). Was alone but stayed in a reasonably large twin-bedded room. Also liked the large and clean bathroom. On the whole, Opal is good for the price I've paid. But some hotel fittings are really old and need to...

We booked our room through expedia as it looked gorgeous on the website and we wanted to stay somewhere nice as it was a special ocassion. On getting there we were given a room in the 6th floor loft conversion. The lift did not go to this floor and it was a struggle getting our luggage up. The room was...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in July and thought it was great. The room we stayed in was small, but not tiny, but the bathroom was quite large and the tub was nice and deep. One thing I am not used to is not having a shower curtain - so this posed a slight...

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Opal with another couple the week of May 2nd through the 8th. We had rooms 105 and 102, respectively. My husband and I had consulted this site before our trip and decided to book the hotel anyway, in spite of the mixed reviews, because we felt the Hotel Opal had a good...
