Detailed Reviews
This little slice of heaven was exactly what I was looking for! The people running the hotel couldn't have been more kind and welcoming, and my room was cozy and sweet. The place isn't new and modern (there's no A/C, however, that was no issue in late May/early June), but that wasn't what I was looking for. My room opened right onto the most beautiful small garden I can imagine and I slept with my door open each night so that I could enjoy the cool air and the scent of the honeysuckle that was growing on the trellis outside. The bed was nice and soft, the hot water plentiful, and I had everything that I needed and wanted. The breakfast (12 Euros) was delicious and served in a serene atmosphere, overlooking the magical garden. Fresh croissants (baked in-house), breads, jams, boiled eggs, cheeses, freshly squeezed orange juice, and cafe au lait really hit the spot each morning starting at 7am. There is a wonderful city park just across the street, where you will see residents of the community exercising, meeting with friends, or just sitting and enjoying the birdsong late in the evening. You are close to two metro stops, making it very easy to travel around Paris by metro, and there are scads of restaurants and other things nearby along the Avenue de Gobelins. There was some sort of work happening nearby during the day that produced noise, but I was out seeing Paris, so this didn't inconvenience me in the slightest. In any case, there is construction work happening all over Paris right now in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games, so it's probably unavoidable, and the nights were very quiet for sleeping. Overall, I don't think I could have found a more ideal and quintessential Parisian hotel experience. I would highly recommend Hotel Le Vert Galant!

I really enjoyed my stay at Le Vert Galant! The hotel staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, and the hotel features a nice garden with beautiful flowers and lounge chairs, in a calm and pleasant area of Paris. My room was on the ground floor and opened onto the garden which was really lovely. The room could probably use a bit of updating but it was overall comfortable and clean, and the room cleaning staff did a great job every day. I also tried the breakfast one morning and was very happy with the selection, excellent food quality and service. The hotel is in a good location not far from Les Gobelins and Place d'Italie, but the street itself that it is on is calm and it borders a quiet park.

After searching for hotel at a reasonable price in a quiet area of Paris I booked for a week at the Vert Galant. It fulfilled all my expectations with its relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, very clean rooms, excellent breakfast and quietly attentive and intuitive service from both Melanie and Fathia. Their awareness of our needs was both intuitive and constant. I soon learnt that other guests who were experienced travellers were return clients. Always a good sign. I'd already placed this hotel on my permanent hotel list. Good shops are a short walk away and even though this hotel is not extremely central to Paris the nearest metro stop provides quick access to major sites and areas.

I stayed here a few years ago. It was lovely and the staff was attentive and kind. I speak fairly fluent French, but my sister's family did not. Everyone was very nice, and helped them out. The rooms downstairs by the garden are very nice, and include kitchenettes. The location is nice because you're off the beaten tourist path, in a Parisian neighborhood. There is a cafe nearby if you chose not to eat at the hotel, a laundramat is a short walk away, and there is a very nice restaurant next door run by the hotelier's husband.
I would stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel for a week, expecting a comfortable stay with cooking because there are many good reviews from this website. Indeed, compared with other Parisien hotels, the room was quite spacious and very safe because no one without key can enter the hotel 24 hours a day. Nice to look out greens from windows. However, I had to hear every conversation of next room's guests (even snores!) through the wall, and large flush noises from next and upstairs through water pipes. No microwave oven in the very small kitchenette. If you want "Parisien" astmosphere for your stay, I would strongly recommend this hotel. But if you would prefer more "convenient" and "modern" style, I would recommend Citadines instead, which has a perfect kitchenette and soundproof even though they have no "Parisien" taste.

We stayed at Le Vert Galant from March 20 to April 29, 2013, on our first trip to France. The location is good - in a quiet part of the 13th arr., across from a park (Rene Le Gal), and 2 blocks from the Corvisart Metro stop. Being situated away from the crowded city centre meant the hotel really was a haven when we returned each day after visiting museums and attractions. Yet the hotel is also easily walkable to the city centre.
The 3 front-desk staff (Harsh, Christian, Ulysse) are courteous, helpful and knowledgeable about their city, and if we asked a question they couldn't immediately answer, they would get the information back to us in a short time. If we had any maintenance requests (lightbulbs replaced, heater operation, etc), they were addressed quickly. They are good representatives for the hotel.
The hotel owners were on site almost every day and treated us with consideration and kindness. We felt that they really took pride in their hotel and cared about their clients' comfort.
The hotel is small - there are about a dozen rooms or so on 2 floors - and overlooks a quiet interior-courtyard garden. All ground-floor rooms open onto the garden and the upper-floor rooms have windows that look onto the garden. We were in Room 3 on the ground floor, a spacious bedroom, a tiny but adequate kitchen and a 4-piece bathroom. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom facilities worked well, and the kitchenette was adequately stocked with dishes, pots, utensils, etc. The room was nicely decorated and had full-length windows all along the garden-side wall.
The carpet in the bedroom was a bit tired and stained, but this has probably been replaced already during the renovation process that was almost completed on the 2nd level. The walls are rather thin and you can hear a bit of noise from the next room, but this wasn't a major concern for us.
The hotel's owners also run the Auberge Etchegorry next door, a restaurant specializing in Basque food. We ate there twice and both times the meal was excellent.
When we return to Paris, we would try to stay at this hotel again.

The Vert Galant is in the 13th arrondissement, on a very quiet street directly across from a city park. The park and the neighborhood are not frequented by tourists; the Vert Galant is the only hotel on the street. The staff are fully bi-lingual and very helpful. The rooms are simple but complete, clean, quiet, and very comfortable. All rooms look out over the hotel's private courtyard, itself a small oasis of peace and quiet. Very nice petit dejeuner (breakfast). The hotel's restaurant, adjacent, has features Basque cuisine and is an affordable delight. I have stayed at the Vert Galant many times over the past 10 years and expect to return again and again.

Booked this hotel ( by fax ) in one of my favorite parts of Paris. Close to Corvisart, Gobelins and Placed'italie metro, in a very quiet neighbourhood, although so close to all necessary amenities including car hire ( eg national/ hertz etc at Place d'talie) This meant we could dump the hire car on arrival in Paris and walk round the corner to the hotel.
The glamorous lady owner( accompanied by big yellow dog) was very welcoming and not too 'in your face'- as often is the case in small off the beaten track hotels.(grrr hate that!)
Our room was a good size, inoffensively decorated in what my daughter called'smoked salmon colour'. A good big bathroom- a little worn around the edges, though nonetheless clean and with plenty of towels.
We had booked a 'lit supplementaire' for our 11 year old which turned out to be a camp bed and quite narrow. it would have been fine for a 6 year old , but was a bit of a tight sqeeze for our almost - teenager.
We too had a kitchennette- a fridge, two rings and a sink, but alas no kettle! This seems a bit strange really, as even basic hotels provide a kettle- and, as my husband cannot do without coffee in the morning , we had to boil up the water in a saucepan!!
I suspect that Mme has worked out that she can sell you a coffee in her little conservatory come breakfast room ( at 7 euro).
oh well never mind- we managed.
the hotel is very close to the delightful Butte aux Cailles where we ate at Cafe -just great food in a lively atmosphere-homemade chips were delicious. Also Tandem wine bar next door with a tiny menu- but run by two brilliant guys who accommodated a vegetarian in our midst! with a fantastic section of dishes. the area is full of 30-40 somethings and didn't hear an English speaker all night.
On departure from Vert-galant Madame helped us book a taxi, but made a bit of a fuss about it saying that our journet was too short and she did'nt know whether a Parisan taxi would take us or not ( we wanted to get a lift to Denfert Rochereau RER to catch the train to CDG airport). Well i don't honestly know how we could have walked it as it was about 4km so she was being a bit precious about that really...
Anyway FYI the taxi to Denfert Rochereau and train to the airport was good- easy access at this station and a lift to get you and the baggage onto the platform. Much cheaper than a bloody taxi all the way which would have been at least 50 euro. RER fare was only 9 euro.
While we were in paris we visited the Eiffel tower-Corvisart direct to Bir-hakiem metro easy peasy. Also walked up rue Mouffetard and down to the river via Jardin des Plantes and natural history museum.. Then along the river to isle St louis, Notre Dame and on to pompidou centre. This took all day but was great and easily walkable with stops for ice cream at Bertillon and a spot of lunch at the Place Monge.
Price wise Vert Galant offers a reasonable standard and I would definitely stay there again. Put it this way there are a lot worse 3* places in Paris.Sometimes you have to wonder if they take a trip to the nearest hardware shop to buy a third star to stick up outside themselves. Happily in the case of Vert Galant this is not the case!
