I think all that has to be said has been said already about this hotel. If you want old world charm and an excellent location on a budget, good views (for some rooms) from a hotel, this is the place. Do keep in mind that the hotel does not have a lift, instead it has a creaky, winding staircase which... More

Just Loved staying here, It was perfect in every way, couldn't imaging a better placed hotel. The esmerelda breakfast on the corner was amazing, fresh juice, espresso and croisant, wow this is the best I have ever tasted and so cheap. The rooms were cosy and the staff were so friendly, Great start to Paris, thank you

Such a quaint hotel right in the heart of a bustling city where some of the greats such as James Joyce stayed. Window opens right onto the Seine and Notre Dame. We got a high room in the attic and had a beautiful view. Would definitely stay again. If you want old school Paris definitely stay here

It's a rather quirky hotel - could probably do with a makeover, but it has it's charm. Lots of dark wood and beamed ceilings and busy print wallpaper. Rooms were comfy, as was bedding. After hoofing it around Paris all day, I sunk into the clean linens and slept. Could barely hear the animation outside and it's in a fairly... More

Ok, first things first, if you're looking for a hotel with WIFI in the rooms (only in the lobby) and breakfast then you should probably look further, but if you can stand to pry yourself away from your phone for the night (lol), then this hotel is worth a stay. Located around the corner from Shakespeare and Co. and with... More

An amazingly atmospheric hotel, with a location that cannot be beaten! Personally I love that there was no television, lift etc as it adds to the unique charm. However, older people and those with mobility issues will need to note the lack of lift.

Everything is adequate – room size, bed, bathroom. There’s no TV, no in-room wifi, no air-conditioning, no elevator and not much room for large suitcases. Very quaint and cozy and wifi works fine in lobby. Noise level wasn't an issue with us. Very close to virtual food court of places to eat. Next door to Shakespeare coffee shop which was... More

Small, old an quaint hotel. Beatiful wiew to Notre Dame. For everybody who likes something with charming originality, more than the average western style hotel. No breakfast, but plenty of restaurants and cafees just outside the door.

I've been staying here each spring for more than a decade. It's somewhat run down and faded, and the noise from the street can get annoying at times, but the people who run it are absolutely wonderful and the location -- facing Notre Dame and St. Julien le Pauvre -- cannot be topped. If you want the atmospheric experience of... More

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
One of the most original hotels in the French capital. Opened over 100 years ago in a 17th century building, the Esmeralda Hotel bears the name of the gypsy girl that, thanks to her grace, illuminated the story by Victor Hugo. Central, well communicated, charming, quiet, comfortable ... Each room is unique and has its own personality. Artists such as Hugo Pratt, Béjart, Gainsbourg ... were regular clients at the hotel. You can also talk about Paris, art and literature as most of our receptionists are writers and poets with PhD at the Sorbonne. Please, do not miss the authentic flavor of the Latin Quarter. Be warmly welcomed at the nearest hotel to Notre Dame for the best value for money in Paris: the staff will immediately address all your queries with their proverbial kindness. ... more   less
