We have stayed at many European hotels. This was the only one to excel in EVERY category. I cannot think of a single criticism. The room was lovely. The staff was lovely (and so helpful). Villa Lara made Bayeux even more special than it is!

Everything's already been said or written about this fine hotel, which obviously the gentle owners have built from the bottom up specifically to cater to the tastes and desires of their overwhelmingly North American clientele. Nothing has been forgotten, from super easy and spacious bathrooms to numerous outlets for charging all of the many devices we Americans tote around to...

Everything about this property is wonderful. Elegant and functional rooms, exceptionally attentive staff, and wonderful advice about places to visit are great. The hotel is small enough that the staff quickly gets to know you and engage in conversations when guests depart and return from their tours and browsing

The Bayeux tapestries are only the first beginning. Located a few minutes from the famous Normandy beaches Bayeux is the ideal locTion to begin you tour. Vila Lara is the finest spot to rest at the end of the day.

The staff at Villa Lara were very good and responsive, and the owner was there much of the time. The room was comfortable with a sofa which made into a bed which comfortably accommodated our 14 yr old granddaughter. Breakfast was always tasty and plentiful. The only thing I did not like so much is that the bathroom door was...

Great rooms, great staff and great location. Rooms were larger than normal European rooms in our opinion. Bathroom was large and towels were great too. You will not be disappointed but book early, they were full and we booked three months in advance.

Villa Lara was a lovely hotel. Newly renovated large bathroom and beautiful view of cathedral from our room. Bayeux has nice shops, good restaurants, the not to be missed Bayeux Tapestry (audio tape is a must) and the Cathedral all a short walk from Villa Lara. We took a Normandy Beaches tour with Viator that was excellent. Guide well informed...

We stayed at Villa Lara in mid-May and explored the region on part of our WWII experience. What an excellent choice! The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, relaxing and welcoming. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our every want. From the room to the bar and restaurant to the gift shop, Villa Lara was perfect. If you have...

Lovely small hotel in the dead center of town. Rooms are new and surprisingly large by European standards. Staff bends over backwards to be helpful. Breakfasts are varied and well prepared. Another great example of you get what you pay for!

I stayed at Villa Lara while touring north France. The rooms were immaculate and comfy, but the staff was even better! This location is perfect for seeing the town, eating in nearby restaurants, and seeing the cathedral. If you are coming to see Normandy, this is your place to stay hands down. I highly recommend it and you will not...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Villa Lara is a small privately owned luxury boutique hotel with a chic but casual atmosphere in the historic center of Bayeux, along the Aure River in a very quiet square facing the 11th century majestic cathedral and just next door to the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Our 28 rooms are appointed in an elegant French style with 8 different color schemes. All the furniture is made by Moissonnier, a well-known French company founded in 1885. Its cabinetmaking skills have been passed down generations, bringing the past to life with light touches, suggesting without imposing, breathing new life into traditions to make the present feel magical again, and creating jewelry for the hotel while cultivating an offbeat style-such is the spirit of Moissonnier today. All the rooms are accessible by lift and equipped with air conditioning, a minibar, large flat-screen TV and safe. The marbled bathrooms have a walk-in shower and also a separate bathtub in most of the rooms. The rooms range from 30 to 50 square meters with a view on the Bayeux Cathedral. Beds are minimum 1.80 x 2 meters and in most of the rooms can be up to 2 x 2 meters. Wireless high speed internet access is free throughout the hotel, which features a cozy bar/lounge area with a fireplace and a library, a marbled lobby, and a breakfast room set in a traditional French style where the breakfast is prepared and served in front of the guest. Our complimentary fitness center is available 24/7 and equipment includes a treadmill, bicycle, and strength training machines. A private carpark is available with 15 spots and a drop-off space for buses. Although we meet the official government criteria of a 5-star property, we do not have a restaurant, a spa, and a formal bellman at the front door. We do not want to mislead our future guests who attribute these specific amenities to their image of a 5-star property, although we do of course provide porterage and turn down. And, as always, our commitment to 5-star service is at the forefront of our day-to-day operations. ... more   less
