Character-filled hotel with a wonderful courtyard garden, recently decorated with well-presented and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was delicious and great to be able to have a drink from the bar in the garden in the evening. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Parking is available in next door car park for €15 per night if you book through reception & they stored our bikes in their garage. Excellent, convenient location, just ten minutes from the old port.

I organized a 4-day/3-night seminar (20 people) at Le Champlain, without having tested it beforehand but the experience was very positive.
The location allows access to pedestrian or semi-pedestrian streets in just a few steps, the rooms are very pleasant and well equipped, and the icing on the cake is the young team who took care of us (reception, bar, etc.) was very efficient and friendly.
The property doesn't have a restaurant (but does offer "plates" for a snack) but there are so many within a 1km radius that it's not a problem.
The garden terrace is also very pleasant.
All the seminar participants were delighted, thanks again to the entire Champlain team!

Just home from a magnificent visit to Le Champlain, from the helpful, friendly always smiling staff, to
the beautiful breakfasts with a huge range of food and drinks to relaxing in the garden in the sun
over breakfast with soft music in the background.
Rooms are very comfortable and peaceful, toiletries are from Ritual (a favourite of ours). The pre-
arrival survey email is great as so much advice is given regarding day trips and eating out all very
good advice. Wifi is excellent in the hotel
The hotel is so quiet that it does not feel like being in a hotel at all and so conveniently placed, just a
short walk from the centre of this beautiful traditional historical city.
There is great history attached to Le Champlain and we hope to return again and thank management and all staff for a lovely stay. Highly recommended for a relaxing break.

Located in the northern part of the Old Town a short walking distance from Place de Verdun which has regular and frequent bus connections to the airport, La Rochelle and Ile de Re. The hotel staff are welcoming and informative, the hotel is rich in decoration including interesting maps. A cool relaxing garden to sit back with a drink in the evening or take your breakfast in the morning. The rooms are modern and with quiet air conditioning that does not keep you awake at night. I would certainly stay here again!

Could not have chosen a better hotel for our stay in La Rochelle. Then room was lovely and also quiet and I especially liked the large bathroom with modern fittings and included a bath. The staff were excellent , helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good even for a none meat eater and it was lovely to eat outside in the garden which was calm and quiet. Stayed in many hotels but this has to rate as one of the best for location and value for money

A great hotel in a beautiful location. The staff could not have been nicer. We were travelling with 3 children and they were so accommodating for us by giving us a pull out bed in the room where other hotels could only offer 2 separate rooms. The hotel is fabulous! I would definitely stay there again! Staff were so nice. I could not recommend this hotel enough!

We stayed five nights at the hotel in a suite with our children and really enjoyed our stay. The team were welcoming and friendly. The room was clean and beautifully kept with quiet aircon which was a blessing as it was in the mid 30s. The breakfast was good value and comparable to the surrounding cafes but the unlimited coffee usually helped decide where we would eat!!
As a bonus the hotel let us use their locked garage to store bikes which was great.
The hotel is in a quiet location and only a short walk to the old market or a ten minute walk to the port. It felt really safe and we loved our stay. Thank you!

Lovely boutique hotel on a quiet street just off the main action in la Rochelle. The reception staff are welcoming and friendly, and very helpful, especially Linael who got us a last minute dinner reservation at a great seafood place. The room is spacious and comfortable but a bit bleak - the pared down aesthetic means no fridge, no cushions on the sofa (we used the uncovered spare pillows we found in the cupboard) and no teaspoons - they provide two wooden sticks as though you are at a cheap cafe. The mugs provided are too tall for the nespresso machine. It could be luxury but not quite.

We had a wonderful stay in La Champlain. It was high season in the middle of August but the hotel was peaceful in a quiet area close to place Verdun and a few steps from the park. We loved the hotel garden which had plenty of seating and was the perfect place to relax in the evening with a drink from the reasonably priced bar. The location was great. Far enough from the main centre to be quiet but only 5 -10 minutes walk to the wonderful indoor market, numerous cafes and restaurants and the old port. The staff were lovely and super helpful if we needed anything including advice on where to eat, which but to get etc. Rooms very nicely decorated and comfortable beds. The standard double was quite small, but good value. I’d advise paying a bit more for the superior room if you want more space. All in all a fabulous hotel with charm and character. I would highly recommend.

Since we stayed a few years ago this hotel is transformed, and by much more than a name change (from L'Angleterre). Its spacious high ceilinged rooms are in stylish greys and are comfortable. The antique wardrobe looked good but didn't close. Similarly the bathroom lighting was stylish but the magnifying mirror was in a dark corner, and the sink drained slowly. Breakfast and the staff were very good. A big improvement but a little on the expensive side.
