This is an outstanding hotel. Unfortunately, our lovely room was at the front of the hotel and a little noisy. However, it did not detract from the overall service and the superb breakfast buffet.
Some quirky challenges including the room key which requires some practice to get into your room. Also, room lighting did not seem to have much flexibility, it was either all on, which was too bright or almost off.
Bar soap in the bathroom was a plus, but also some in the shower would have been good rather than having to rely on the awful soap dispenser.

When there is a Dyson hairdryer in your room you know you’re staying at a very special place. Built into the hilltop, rooms are on the top floors and down below are reception, restaurants, and garden/pool. Sunrise and sunset are simply beautiful, the breakfast buffet made for every appetite, and service top notch.

We booked Airelles La Bastide for a weekend summer break as it’s a fairly short drive from home. Although we had a good stay I’m not sure we’ll be back, especially not in summer. There is not enough beds at the pool and guests seem to reserve them from early in the morning by placing personal items on the beds - some which sit there for hours and hours until the guests decide to go down and actually use them. So books and sunscreen had a better holiday than we did most of the time! So bear this in mind if you go, because we didn’t know and so were without beds for our first day! The staff servicing the pool area don’t seem in control of this at all - fellow guests saw beds lay empty all day, but because there was a personal item on the bed, the pool guys won’t let anyone use it.
The restaurants/food and breakfast was great, but service during breakfast is very slow. Be sure to sit on the terrace closest to the breakfast buffet, because they will forget you completely if seated on the left hand side terrace.
Our room was nice, close to the pool, but the walls were awfully thin. We were neighboured with a suite and so heard children crying non stop - as if they were in our room. The same happened when a family with a dog checked in and left the dog in the room alone from early morning. It was screaming and distressed which was awful to hear. Management moved us to another room for the night which was a relief.
All in all, good but not great and probably won’t be back.

This hotel is 5 stars all the way. From the moment you walk in the door, the service is impeccable. The location up on the hill has breathtaking views into the valley. The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous and beautifully decorated. There is so much care and history in every detail. The check-in process was seamless and we were upgraded to a suite with a view of the grounds and the valley. Welcome gifts were waiting for us in our room along with delectable treats. The decor of the rooms are rich and comfortable. If you need anything, the staff is quick to please. The bar area is quaint with a "speak easy" vibe. The drinks are top notch and the bar tenders were extremely friendly. The views from both restaurants are picturesque. We had dinner at L'Orangerie. The decor was glamorous and the service again, was attentive. Although the food and drinks were on the pricey side, you definitely got what you paid for. The dinner was amazing. The pool area landscaping was pristine. We wish we had more time to take in the views poolside. The staff really goes above and beyond, as I left my toiletry bag in our room and they immediately notified us. We had a train to catch and did not have time to go back to retrieve it. They graciously helped send it to our next hotel in Paris within 2 days. We really can't give enough compliments to this hotel. It was such a romantic experience and we hope we are able to come back another time. A special thank you to the concierge and manager for your assistance. Thank you for a memorable experience!

I have been lucky enough to have quite a few 5 stars in my life and the Bastide de Gordes has just raised the bar higher than all the others. The number of attentions and surprises that await you there is incredible, from my luggage which I find with a tag stamped with my golden initials to the gifts in the room, including the impeccable, generous, without obsequious service. Absolutely comfortable rooms, fantastic breakfast. Animals are as well received as humans, something never seen before. I would only make one criticism (who likes to be well punished): when I asked if the restaurant could prepare two basic sandwiches for lunch, I was told "no problem, for 37 euros". At first I thought it was the price of both, which seemed normal for a 5 star, but it was per sandwich, knowing that as a vegetarian, I didn't have caviar or beef wagyu or other overpriced exotic product. 74 euros for two sandwiches, therefore: there is really a big slip-up and a real commercial error on this point, whatever the number of stars of the place, all the more surprising since if the restaurant is not cheap, it is not crazy either and displays prices corresponding to the standing of the place. It didn't detract from my stay, I just didn't get the solid gold sandwiches, I'm not crazy. Everything else is mind-blowingly luxurious, well done.

Just returned from a trip to southern France with my adult daughter. We stayed in 4 different properties spanning from Avignon to St. Jean Cap Ferratt, and this was by far our favorite . Absolutely divine. As a discriminating traveler, what stood out to me was the management and the attention to detail with regards to EVERYTHING. The staff is exceptional , and the property is meticulously maintained. We met the manager at check in, and he checked in with us throughout our stay. One tip… our room was on the second floor over looking the pool. The grounds crew begins early, and we did awake to the sound of blowers. If you want absolute quiet you may want to avoid that side of the property .

Incredible view from our room and great valet system. Hotel decor generally much too over-decorated and busy. Felt more like a chi-chi 3 star provincial French hotel in terms of the fussy staid style. Friendly staff at reception and bar. Booked the restaurant for dinner described as 'Provençal' as it had a nice terrace and we were in the heart of the Luberon. When we asked to sit on the terrace the officious manager said "the terrace is closed." We said we were sitting outside on the bar terrace immediately next door and it was fine and she said "the terrace is closed." The restaurant was a major disappointment except for the sommelier who saved the day with his choice and humour after this cold start. The interior had a squashed feeling. The food was all Italian and unexceptional. Nothing notably Provençal and the flavours were quite ordinary. We wished we had gone to any local place to eat rather than this. Overall, considering the cost of the room was over Euro 600 we left having much happier experiences in every other place we stayed. You are paying for the view!

We visited Provence on a small guided tour (our first), and couldn’t have been more pleased with this hotel. We ended up with a valley view room; from the website photos, probably a superior valley view room with one large window in the bedroom area and one tall, narrow window in the immense walk-in shower (see my photo and clip — I once rented an apartment with a bedroom about the size of this shower). Everything was beautiful and elegant, even the elevators. The bed was wonderfully firm. The hairdryer was a Dyson (no, not the airwrap). The staff were kind and invisibly attentive. For instance, we left in a hurry for dinner, and when we returned, not only had the room been tidied up and turned down for the evening, but the Dyson had been carefully re-coiled and stowed again in it’s leather case. Breakfast was delicious and vast, and our dinner equally excellent. As others have mentioned, the minibar, which is loaded with treats, was all free. Though we could hear visitors on the terrace in the evening, the noise never disturbed us. Do not come expecting a hip, modern hotel. That would be out of keeping with the area!

This hotel is one of the most outstanding French regional hotels I have stayed in. The room was large with a very comfortable bed, and spacey bathroom. A huge collection of gifts, edible and otherwise, was supplied for you to take home. The buffet breakfast displayed a huge choice of interesting food. Definitely a must have experience in a charming hillside town. zSteaff were always very helpful.

Exceptional experience! Service is of very high quality. Smiling faces, caring and professional. Nothing is too much and all is done quickly and perfectly. Upkeep of the hotel and its grounds and also the decoration is faultless. The rooms are an expert mix of well chosen decoration and modern conveniences (ipads in every room!). The housekeeping team perform miracles and the front desk staff very attentive. Buffet breakfast is just perfect. The different restaurants offer a different vibe and each an excellent experience, which makes it so easy when trying to figure out where to go for dinner. The little 2CV car or bicycles to explore the nearby region are so much fun.
Obvious choice when visiting this gorgeous part of France! Cannot wait to go back.

Yes, my belief is that a car is needed especially if you want to venture outside the town or to the Abbey. Although I am not aware of other options of getting around- we felt that having a car enhanced our experience in seeing the region better! Hope this helps!
