First stay for us at this hotel in Marseille which turned out to be overall correct. The location is of course excellent, close to the old port with access to valet parking to leave your car in a secure place (rare in Marseille...).
For the rest, although the establishment is only 10 years old, we were not sensitive to its style of decor which seemed a bit old because of the shades of gray/dark brown which darken the rooms much. The breakfast was of a good standard though very classic. As for the spa it was unfortunately closed, we could only enjoy the pool (which was not very hot), neither saunas nor steam room.
Big downside though, on the welcome. We were entitled to an upgrade and had specified that it was a wedding anniversary. The upgrade turned out to be a room with two single beds, not really a good idea so. We were also entitled to the late check out which turned out to be a disaster, the maids came twice to make the room, a third person came to bring a "welcome gift" (which we had not been entitled to by the way) certainly planned for the customer who followed us and an hour before the end of the late check out the reception called us back to know if we planned to leave soon. Not pro at all, no communication about the fact that we occupied the room. It should also be noted that our room was not prepared in the evening for bed when we were out for dinner and that no attention was scheduled for our arrival or our anniversary. Anyway, a lot of little things that separate a decent 5* from a palace.
In short, faced with the overall low level of hotel offer in Marseille, this hotel manages to do pretty much but without sparkling its services either.

This is a wonderful hotel conversion in a good location, being easily walkable to the Old Port and Le Panier for example.
Due to some problems with a botched IT update, we were upgraded to a fabulous suite with huge terrace and uninterrupted views of Notre-Dame de la Garde. The TVs in our room actually included a few English terrestrial channels which was unusual for French hotels. But not everything was perfect in the room...the lack of beside USB sockets was a niggle.
The vast terrace restaurant on the first floor served some excellent dishes and was surprisingly reasonable value for money. Also on the first floor was a decent gym and an indoor pool. Given that Marseille is blessed with a lot of sunshine, an outdoor pool would have been nice.
Breakfast was essentially international and a bit limited. Valet parking, whilst a little pricey, was a real plus point for us given how hectic things were outside the hotel grounds.
A great stay.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us, particularly the beauty of our hotel, its location, your upgrade, the restaurant, our valet parking but also your breakfast ! However, I feel sorry about your deception concerning our indoor swimming pool. Please note that our establishment being housed in a 18th century Historical Monument, we were unfortunately not allowed to build an outdoor swimming pool. However, we have developed offers with gorgeous cruise ships or with the prestigious Cercle des Nageurs. During your next visit, feel free to contact our Concierge team for more information. We hope to have the chance to welcome you again during your next stay in Marseille. Best regards,

I was already alone in this hotel in May. This time I travelled with family and was there for two days.
A very nice hotel, in a great location and a great team of staff.
The impressive building, which served as a hospital until 1993, is located a few meters from the old port. The old town with many small restaurants is next to the house. St. Charles train station is just over 10 minutes from the hotel (taxi costs for our stay: 10€).
The reception is located in a very nice lobby. The reception was very friendly and personal. The Check In quickly and efficiently. A thanks goes to Miriyam.
The family room was facing the courtyard and very quiet. The bed large and comfortable. Our two children slept on a sofa bed that was a bit short for almost adult adolescents. The room has a capsule coffee machine. The capsules are environmentally friendly. Spacious bathroom with separate shower.
Breakfast can be taken outside in fine weather. The rooms inside are not adequate for breakfast given the size of the house and you may have to queue in bad weather. As an early riser it was no problem for me to get a place. The breakfast buffet offers the usual selection in hotels but in very good quality. Very attentive and friendly team, used dishes are cleared immediately.
The pool is large enough but the pool area is very narrow. Only five loungers can fit there. You have to register by phone. But we were still able to go straight into the water.
And if something was not perfect, then you were immediately helped and taken care of the problem. Great service!
Overall, very good value for money.
Conclusion: Overall, an excellent hotel that can be proud of its team!

I would like to express my dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your establishment. Unfortunately, several aspects of my experience left something to be desired.
Firstly, upon arrival I was shocked to find that the toilet paper in my room was extremely dirty, which immediately tainted my first impression of the hotel. Additionally, the carpet in the room was visibly dirty, which greatly reduced the comfort of my stay.
However, I admit that the positive point of my stay was the breakfast. Although the bread, croissants and pain au chocolat did not live up to my expectations in terms of artisanal quality, the breakfast overall was satisfactory.
Furthermore, I would like to point out that the location of the hotel is indeed excellent, which is a considerable advantage.
Regarding the cost of parking, I am deeply baffled by how excessive it is. The parking fees charged by the hotel are excessive and in no way correspond to a level of service consistent with an establishment of your caliber.
In summary, despite the favorable geographical location and the acceptable breakfast, my stay at the Intercontinental Hotel was largely affected by problems with hygiene, quality of service and exorbitant costs. For me, this establishment does not deserve its five stars.
I hope my feedback can help improve the experience of future customers. Thank you for taking my comments and suggestions into consideration.

Our family of 4 + a friend visited Hotel Dieu for the 1st time 2 years ago, and we were so happy with that experience that we came back for another 2 nights. The 2nd visit met again our expectations! We had overbooked our visit with 4 rooms instead of three by my own mistake, so hotel team contacted me beforehand to check our needs and they were kind enough to fix my error. On the weekend of our arrival there had been this Crowdstrike IT hassle, which impacted many industries' IT-systems, also hotels. So there were some delays in getting all of our rooms and keys to work, but hotel team supported us well and eventually we got the last of the three rooms. We remembered from the past visit a bit of a trouble at the breakfast with pigeons, as the terrace where breakfast is served is mostly open. This time there was one Secret Service looking person with a trained hawk(!!) and that resulted in no pigoens appearing at all. Great service if you ask me :-) Most of us swam in the hotel pool few times and we also trained at the gym, which is well equipped and large. We did not have time to try out hamam or generally other spa services, but it is available in the hotel. We had lunch and dinner in the hotel, as well as visited the bar on both evenings. We could not help noticing that the service process in the restaurant was a bit broken, it appears that most the of the personnel there were new to the restaurant so delivering orders was slow and inaccurate. We were compensated for this, so there are no hard feelings at all. Service will get better over time I am sure, as the team gets to work more together and gain experience, but this was the situation on 3rd week of July. Finally, our rooms were awesome. On the top floor 3 rooms, 2 of them with large terraces overlooking the old harbor (premium + suite) and the last one just very large room with a view to the center. Thank you again hotel Dieu!

I stayed here 2 nights each pre- and post-cruise, respectively, for a total of 4 nights. I received some benefits as a IHG rewards member. The hotel was stunning, and its location was excellent [5.0], given its close proximity to the harbor front, including many sights. Yet, it was located in a very quiet area. The cruise port and airport are about a 20- and 30-minute drive away, respectively.
For the first two nights, pre-cruise, I was upgraded to a one-bedroom, 1.5 bath suite [4.7]. It was clean, beautiful, nicely designed, and very spacious, with great views of Marseille. Overall, the suite was very comfortable; however, most rooms in the suite were too cold. I attempted to adjust the temperature, using the AC control panel, but it barely got warmer. Maintenance visited twice, to no avail. Additionally, the shower leaked, even after I reported it. For my last two nights, post-cruise, my classic room [#316] was also clean, beautiful, nicely designed, and spacious. I was able to adjust the AC to make it slightly warmer. Both the suite and regular room were so quiet, and the showers were nice and hot.
Staff service was very good [4.7] throughout the hotel, as they were very responsive to my requests, including at reception, at breakfast, at the bar/restaurant, maintenance, valet, and the concierge. However, I requested an additional bed sheet 3 times the first night before I got it. English was spoken by most staff members, which is always very much appreciated! And everyone was very friendly and approachable.
The breakfast buffet was very good [4.7]. However, the area in which it is served was a bit tight. Also, some items were available outside on the terrace, which might be too cold in the winter. In addition, although breakfast is scheduled to start at 6:45am, food items were still being placed on the buffet at 7am on two mornings. The buffet had a good array of food and drink choices [fresh juices, too], including made-to-order eggs and some local foods. It also had freshly made breads, which were still warm! They were the high-point for me. The food was very good, as was the food outside of breakfast in the bar/restaurant. Service was very attentive.
The gym facility was very good [4.2]. Although, I was a bit disappointed. Since it is an Intercontinental, I expected a more robust facility with more machines that work various body parts. For example, there was only an "universal" machine that worked various body parts; however, I have used that machine in other hotels, and I find it to be very clunky and difficult [and sometimes hazardous] to use. Nonetheless, I made do with the dumbbells/benches and cardio machines.

Beautiful building. Great location close to the port.Watch out for the neighborhood in the evening, in the day there are no worries. Has its own parking. Be careful with the room service, we asked for an extra tea bag that was charged 7 euros! In this kind of hotel, this service is normally free. So, know that if you use room service you will pay a tax on top of the price of what you order in room! First time I see this kind of practice!

Very nice hotel but the logistics is not up to standard: no heating during the day despite my requests (I was given extra heating...). I was very cold throughout the stay. The window did not close and had to be blocked by technicians. I had taken a room with a balcony that I could not enjoy. The housekeeping and room service keys are without dial tone and no phone number is given. The breakfast sheet is not put back in the rooms, nor the water etc. Very nice staff nonetheless but totally overwhelmed.

Stayed 3 wonderful nights at the Hotel Dieu while I was in Marseille. It’s in a super location minutes from the port and it is a very luxurious hotel with spacious rooms, I very much enjoyed my stay except for the steep steps leading up to the hotel !
Arrived early evening to a busy reception and checkin took a little longer than expected but they were apologetic and courteous even arranging some bubbles while we waiting which was appreciated.
Room was on the fifth floor with amazing views over the port and Notre-Dame de la Garde watching over you from the mountain. The room was well appointed, the bed very comfortable, crisp linens and big pillows and very spacious, lots of storage space and a big desk area.
The bathroom was nearly as big as the bedroom, separate shower and toilet cubicles and a very long tub so no need to squeeze yourself in. Plenty of toiletries and soaps and extra shower gel came very quickly when requested from housekeeping. The towels were especially soft too. Everything was clean and sanitized.
There was a coffee machine and mini bar which I did not use plus 2 small waters which were replaced every day which was nice. I also liked the gift of Marseille soap and Navette biscuits with the little story behind them on the desk .
Breakfast was not included in my rate and a little pricy so opted to get something from the numerous cafes along Rue Caisserie, some do not open until 10.00 so beware if you are an early riser. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and spoke great English and other languages too.
The location of the hotel is second to none, right beside the Hotel de Ville, the bus 60 from the stop outside the hotel brings you up to the Basilica on the mountain. ( Do get the 48/72 hour travelcard) The port and old town are minutes away so it’s very easy to wander around and see the sights or get a boat trip to the islands or explore the calanques.

What a huge disappointment! After 10 years of loyalty to the Hôtel Dieu (the hotel is currently celebrating these 10 years), I must share my experience. My partner and I have been staying in this hotel since it opened in 2013, on each of our Marseille getaways. Whether for pleasure or unfortunately, a medical appointment. My partner and I had a new reservation for the night of August 28 to 29, 2023. The storm raging between the Corsican coast and the Bouches du Rhône prevents us from taking the plane, and it is quite natural that we inform the hotel, to cancel our reservation and request availability for the following weekend, the night of September 10 to 11. And here, what I am going to tell you will surprise more than one person! Our interlocutor answers us with astonishing confidence: “for this period, we have rooms left, but you are required to reserve at least 2 nights, for a rate of €750 per night…”. Not believing my chaste ears, I decide to explain the situation again to my interlocutor…: “Madam, we are loyal customers of your hotel,… we stay there on each of our Marseille escapades,… we simply wish to postpone our reservation for a week for the same standard room at €340 per night… we were also with you last month, … we are also a member of the IHG Club… …” And I then expect a change of discourse which would take into account the fact that we have been Customers (for 10 years) and that it is only a reservation delay... But I was very wrong! And to hear myself say: “Sir, I understand your frustration, but my software only accepts reservations of a minimum of 2 nights for this period, due to the Rugby World Cup. » So, here is a 5-star hotel which ignores welcoming its usual customers, in favor of a mercantile logic. What should we think and remember? That the 5 stars of the Hôtel Dieu in Marseille are being usurped? That believing me to be a privileged customer and recognized at each of our visits, this implied that despite everything, our relationship as service provider to “Client” was not based only on money? A bit of all that... and for the Hotel, the definitive loss of a loyal customer! To end my story, I will quote a great business captain: “The company is elected every day by its customers.” François MICHELIN
